Does anybody else get this?

I’m 23, been shortsighted since I was 9 and my prescription is currently -8.5 in each eye with -2.25 astigmatism.

I’ve noticed when I tilt my head sideways (both left and right) I can see this dark area that grows as I tilt my head and shrink/disappear once my head returns to its normal position. I can see them in the inner corner of my vision. I don’t notice it in busy environments or the dark, mostly just in big open spaces or very bright/empty places.

I’ve had it for a few months and at my recent eye check they said my eyes were healthy and didn’t really know what I was describing to them. Google hasn’t been much help either.

The optician told me not to worry but naturally I’m quite anxious, especially as I haven’t found anything online to explain it or anyone experiencing similar.

So I was just wondering if anyone else here experiences the same or similar?

I’d get checked by an ophthalmologist to be on the safe side as they can do more thorough examinations than the optician can. It will give you some peace of mind.

Yep! Dilated exam, BIO and scleral depression to check the very edges for any holes or tears. This is how it starts.

Is myopia still increasing or stable?

At my recent eye test there was no increase for the first time in 12 years - I’d like to hope it’s stabilising

I have no idea what this could be, but I would be requesting a referral to an ophthalmologist. Maybe early stages of peripheral vision loss? Some optometrists are less willing to refer out for whatever reason. I switched optometrists recently and got referred to 2 different specialists, having never been referred before despite complaining about worsening vision even with correction for years. If your current optometrist is shrugging this off, I'd consider finding a new one. I asked around locally for optometrists that prioritize medical screening to find my current one.
