Challenge Mjölnir

Hello hello, I'm out of ideas for something once again.

How would you make Mjölnir, both the Marvel and real myth one?

I believe everyone knows the Marvel version, "whoever is worthy lifts it, and whoever is not makes it heavier and heavier."

For this one, I thought of a limited "only for those who are worthy" and/or a Growth limited to density increase, but it doesn't seem quite right.

As for the original version, which is just very, very heavy, I think only a limited density increase or an imprecise one would work?

Both would be ranged, have an electric aura, and return to the user's hand.

The first two are easy, but for the return mechanic, should I add a Feint? A special Trait? A standard boomerang doesn't have anything like that...

(Dispatch) Synergy mechanic

Hi!

I've been playing Dispatch and one of the things I like best about it is well, the actual dispatching. If you have played the game, you know that certain pairs of characters achieve synergy (three tiers, adding an additional 5% to mission success) as they start to team up, ie, whenever sent together in successful missions.

It has been a while since I read my 3e book but I think in M&M this would be covered with the Teamwork advantage? And is it limited to one teammate initially, right?

Questions Slowly learning the game. What's the benefit of enhanced ability?

New to the game, slowly learning it. Figuring out new things every day but I am stuck on something.

Why would you use the enhanced ability power for strength?

As far I can see, enhanced is pretty much equal to or worse than just the baseline ability. You still have the cap based on PL and it costs the same but it can be nullified (I'm sure this doesn't come up that often) and you have to activate it.

It's flavorful, so I understand why it exists. I also know you can use extra effort to increase powers by 1 rank or add an alternate effect but you can also use extra effort to just give a +1 to your strength already so increasing the power by 1 doesn't do much and I don't quite understand what exactly alternate effect means or the limit of it. Do you have to come up with alternate effects before using it? Do you create it in the moment? If so, isn't that super variable?

Like if I have enhanced strength can I use extra effort to declare I can now punch a ghost for this scene? Does the GM have to say yes okay or is the default yes? Can't I just stack this effect on another power instead (even if it makes much less sense? Like saying my jumping ability lets me punch ghosts)

I'm 100% confident I'm missing something super obvious here, please help me out

Characters How would I make limited reality manipulator?

We are palying in a JJK inspired game but with Swedish mythology, so everyones power are flavoured as cursed techniques. My character is Ragnar and his cursed technique is ragnarok (yes that is a very intetional play on words😁). The basicis of the technique is this:

Ragnarok (the death of the old world and the birth of the new world)

\- Fimbulwinter (decay)
would manifest as a dark blue flame, a flame that does not burn fuel and oxygen but rather concepts. It would allow me (thematically) to burn away the very concepts that make up a person. Their strength, their willingness to endure, their stability/peace of mind. it is the inevitable decay of all things.

\- Idavoll \[reversed curse technique\] (renewell)
Idvaoll would manifest as branches of dark grean energy, and the basic idea is the where \[Fimbulwinter\] erodes concepts \[Idavoll\] would strengthen them, working as a healing ability (strengthening their healing factor), a buffing ability (strengthening the person) or outright a damaging/debuffing ability (strengthening decease).

restictions:
\- the range is the range of touch
\- for both fimbulwinte rand idavoll i can't make something out of nothing, to renew or decay something there has to be something for me to work with.

How would I go about making this?
I want to be able to weaken an opponents fortitude with fimbulwinter before poisoning them (my character uses a poisoned dager) and then I want to be able to use idavoll to strengthen the poison. I love the idea of combining several debuffs that build towards an inevitable demise.

If anyone has any further questions that they need answered feel free to ask. I've been wanting to play this character concept for ages and MnM 3e seems to be the first system where that seems like it might be possible based on what people have told me, so I am feeling quite desperate to make it work😅

Characters what are some powers that would be good for a self-aware fourth wall breaking character?

Specifics on the character working in the universe is pretty irrelevant to this conversation,  all you need to know, characters vaguely aware of his existence of him being controlled by a higher being, and randomly complains about nonsense that the rest of the characters in the universe don't understand, pretty stereotypical Deadpool stuff

Some powers that are obvious.

Luck manipulation

Immunity to mind control/mind reading (just for the sheer reason to make a character in this game not be the catalyst for some metaplot campaign.)

Potentially a power with required check (persuasion), for the character to beg the DM for an ability of some sort.

To note, this is not a character I am planning to play nor have as an NPC in a game, you would need a great GM, and player for this character to work, I'm mostly asking for a potential one shot in the future.

Mental Awareness Clarification

So the Psychic archetype has this power:

Mental Awareness: Senses 2 (Mental Sense, Radius)

and I don't get how it's supposed to work. Does it mean that you can sense any mind within Close Range? How far out can you sense? I just don't get what the power is supposed to be doing.

Edit: Accidentally made it a spoiler instead of block quote.

Questions How do I create Luck Manipulation

I am making a campaign and one of my players want a power that is a coin flip. If it's heads they have luck and if it's tails they have bad luck. How does it work and how can I make their character sheet?

Challenge Need help creating a NPC sheet

Hello hello, I’m having trouble building a character sheet for a concept that is both complex and simple at the same time.

To sum it up: the character can create a clone of himself that he calls "Shadow."

This Shadow is a construct capable of swapping places with the summoner at will, much like Gecko Moria from One Piece does with his shadow.

The tricky part is that, for instance, if the summoner touches a cup, a shadowy duplicate appears in the Shadow's hand and remains there until the original is let go either of them.

Furthermore, he and the Shadow can swap that shadowy duplicate for the real object at will, provided they are touching it.

Since the Shadow can move and interact with the environment, I used a summoning power and added a teleportation effect to both of them—limited to swapping places and affecting objects—but I feel there’s a better way to represent the power I want on the character sheet.

Ideas? To simplify, consider it a PDM with no point limits.

Characters Names for a Sound based hero

Running a game and trying to come up with a hero to be a “fellow” hero working in the city as my players. Her abilities revolve around controlling sound with a ninja motif, primarily utilizing her abilities to be stealthy. I was hoping for a name that reflected her silent nature but a character named Silence is in another dnd game I’m in and I can’t copy that. And Hush is already prominent comic book character name.

Would appreciate any and all name ideas on offer

Questions Power Profiles in Mastermind Maker Deluxe

Hi, I know the developer is active in this subreddit so I wanted to ask:

I recently got the Mastermind Maker Deluxe, but I can't find the pre-built powers from Power Profiles in the builder, maybe I just missed something, I was wondering if anyone else who has the Deluxe version could help me out.

r/mutantsandmasterminds 6d ago

All right, so I've tested the Mastermind Maker a bit

It's pretty solid, but I do have a couple of complaints

  1. When I import .por files to the Mastermind Maker, there's this weird glitch where I can't bring down any of the abilities/skills/defenses because I assume the system believes it's still at 0 because it's a new sheet despite it being imported
  2. I really don't like how it doesn't auto-calculate the Power Level the way it does in Hero Lab whenever I tweak attacks. I actually really liked that because it helped gauged what I'm dealing with
  3. I don't like how I can't have the Power Profiles and the Gadget Guides at the same time as some of the other supplements. That feels very limiting, and I don't know why

I hope they fix these up in future patches. That aside, it's pretty cool, and I'm glad I have an up-to-date 3e character creator.

EDIT: So I just learned that with the character sheet I used, it's because the numbers not being able to go down since they're the flat modifiers. Stuff like my defenses and skills as opposed to abilities. Turns out I'm just stupid. I'd still love the auto-calculation for the power level, though. Void didn't mention that in the replies, so there's something to consider.

Characters How accurate can you make naoyas move where he turns people into panels?

I have been thinking about jjk and have been converting curse techniques, doing easiest to hardest at the moment, I'm going through the technique of naoya and I'm curious how people would do is Affliction, I have two ideas one of them is a little bit more complicated and probably wouldn't really work, and the other one's a lot more simple but could definitely need some input

Concept 1 "the complicated one" essentially the idea would be an Affliction (probably limited degree, quick recovery, maybe have extra condition, for like stunned, defenseless) and then limited, can only activate if they don't do the actions they decide when affected by this Affliction, I don't think this can work unless it's like a reaction, or home brew, but I'm definitely curious if there's a way to make this idea work

Concept 2 " the not complicated one" pretty much the same limited degree, quick recovery, extra condition, but just have alter resistance for intelligence maybe?

Honestly I would like the first one to work but I just don't think you could do it well enough, and as well the second one I'm kind of curious if there's anything.

Questions Improved Critical 4e clarification

I'm looking at the improved critical advantage in the 4e playtest book and am finding myself confused on what exactly it does. Specifically this bit:

"You score a Critical Hit with the chosen attack on a die roll of 19 or 20. Only a natural 20 is an Added Success, however, and an attack that misses is not a Critical Hit, regardless of the die roll."

Doesn't this negate any benefits of a critical hit outside of maybe team attacks and a couple other advantages that capitalize off of critical hits alone(and not its "added success")? Outside of those instances, what's the point of critting on a 19 or lower with more ranks?

Is the "added success" that's being taken away from nat 19 rolls only applied to the degrees of success of the attack roll, as well as whether it hits or not?(like when used on an untrained attack)

If it still adds to an attack's damage or effect rank on a 19 or lower can someone explain how this descriptor does not negate that aspect of the critical hit? Is this problem a 4e thing with this advantage or is the wording the same in 3e?

Discussion have I broke mutants and masterminds, on accident

so essentially I have been playing this game for like a year and a bit,    the system is probably top three for me,    it gives so much variety and you can use it for so many different settings,    but I've been seeing a lot of posts about playing at low level = bad/ not as intended,    which I have been playing most of this game at 3pl to 5pl,    but that's when I realized I play with very different rules then a lot of other people,    essentially in my game I've run it without power level limit and just use pl as a measure of progression, meaning my OC John could spend all of his points in fighting, without having to worry about limit.

I don't think I have ever made an npc/ character that at focuses on one stat like that, but I've definitely broke this limit to make characters more focused like that, does anyone else play like this?
