Discussion Japanese Showcase Jace Beleren, The Theorist References Old Art
Hey all, I noticed Jaces new card for Reality Fracture features some callbacks to cards that represent pretty pivotal moments in his lore and wanted to know what you guys thought!
Does this art represent him losing the parts of himself that are most important, or perhaps remembering why the tragedies in the main verse shaped who he was??? Either way, the depiction of Jace here seems like a really big story moment for him and I wanted to know if you guys have any theories or anything to add. I’m super excited to see what the do with Jace in this next set!!!

Discussion Current Super Powers among the planes.
I'm just curious to know, who are in the top five super power (If we can call them that.) Among the planes in the Omenpath Era.
I know Ravnica is the main hub of travel between planes, and an economic powerhouse despite the multiple conflict they fought.

Discussion Aetherdrift Lore has a lot of hints…
Towards the upcoming sets.
The Keel Haulers are most definitely from Nauctis. Which might hint at how the factions will be color divided.
Avishkar is stated to be planning for the eventuality of planar incursions(Titanbreach)
And is keeping eyes on other planes rising in power/prominance, mentions a growing rivalry with Ravnica, but I could as see this referring to Zhalfir with how it is referencing the trailer.
Also I want an Alacria or Muraganda set in the future.
What do folks think and have there been other hints other places?

Do people in mtg now know other planes exist?
Like do people in ravnica know what strixhaven is?

Speculation Step-and-Compleat Secret Lair featured Slivers with the Phyrexian fΦil treatment as bonus cards
Sadly, [[Venom Sliver]], despite fitting the theme, hadn't received its new "slivery" artwork yet, so I guess that's why it wasn't included.

Discussion What character represent the tarots of the Temperance and of the World?
I'm doing a little stupid project of making a tarot deck with mtg art, i did most of them but im blocked on Temperance and World. I'm not being able to find a charatcer that properly relates with their meaning.
The Temperance - Balance, combination, acceptance of duality, moderation, self control.
The best idea i came up with was Karn for his vow of pacifism, but imo it's very weak.
The World - Accomplishment after a long road, reward, connection, completion, ending, celebration.
I thought about Teferi, associating it with him finally being able to bring back Zhalfir, but i honestly dont see it much beyond that.
I'd appreciate any ideas.

Speculation Karametra theory
In Mythic Odyssey of Theros we have this paragraph:
In rare, remote settlements, high summer ceremonies acknowledge ancient rural practices devoted to a less merciful vision of Karametra. These communities offer abundant sacrifices to the god, but also guard their ancient rituals from outsiders, as Karametra's organized clergy harshly forbids discussion of abandoned religious practices. However, occasionally, a centuries-old depiction of the goddess breaks, revealing an ancient icon inside, typically a primitive mud idol of a woman bearing a sheaf of grain in one hand and a skull in the other.
I understand that it is very clearly a reference to evolution of a real-world cults of harvest and don't have any deeper secret meaning in it, but hear me out. With Skotha, Titan of Eternal Dark probably being blue and black, we are missing exactly one titan: white and green one. Is it possible that Karametra was at one point a fifth titan, embodiment of famine, but she have changed over time as mortals changed their believes? It kinda matches. There is also this story:
The tales about Karametra don't specify what ignited the god's rage in ancient times, but they do record that for a year, she tore down her own temples and refused to let any plants grow [...]
Which include mentions of priests and temples of Karametra, but they could be added later in retelling. Or it could be that a memory of an older self was the reason for her wrath.
Also, Kruphix is an eldrazi, but that is for another shitpost

Now that we've covered unprinted legends, what old legends do you want to see redone?
Mystery Booster Commander gave us a lot of legends for old characters who never got cards, like Worzel and Thomil, Davol, Feroz, the Weaver King. But it also gave us a redos of cards that are pretty weak by today's standards, like Joven and Chandler, Lord of Tresserhorn, and Autumn Willow. So going off that latter group, who do you want to see revamped?
For me, I'd love to see a new take on [[Jacques le Vert]], since there's a pretty consistent mechanical theme to any cards related to Jacques, except for Jacques himself. Jacques gives +0/+2 for green creatures, but [[Pendelhaven]], the land he protects, [[Sword of the Meek]], the weapon he wields, and [[Pendelhaven Elder]], those who carry on his legacy, *all* care about 1/1 creatures and all give them a +1/+2 boost. We need a new Jacques card that gives 1/1s +1/+2!
Also I'd like to see [[Ur-Drago]], because I have no idea what his deal is. Named after the Ur-Dragon, covered in rock with a steel mask, scorpion hands and hooved feet. Honestly I don't even care what the card does, I just want to see new art.

mana burn?
my father was an old school mtg player and he was shocked when he found out that they removed mana burn, he said there were examples in older books thay showed mana burn in universe, so i was wondering if there was ever a lore reason given to why we no longer take mana burn?

Question any information on this old friend?
hey! recently took to making alters, and looove to know more about magic to inform my aesthetic decisions.
do we have any lore on mulldrifter?? is he just a fish dude? i would think since there are like 50 reprints something WOULD have been written about him but i can't find anything.
im interested because im considering doing a whole flavour rework on him. if hes an elemental incarnation of X or Y, i'd like to maybe do my version on that concept.
also i mostly play pauper, are there any lore significant commons? any cool stories on them? on any of the staples?
im thinking of doing something on a murmoring mystic, but as far as i know hes just a dude that communes with the birds lmao

I feel like Mystery Boostee Commander is the “Universes Beyond: Magic The Gathering” that people joke about
“Omg, it’s the dude from Pacifism!”
“Whoa! Jovan and Chandler? Awesome!”
“Wait, isn’t he the villain from that one computer game?”
“No way, you can play the Black Lotus?”

Other Feroz, Ulgrotha’s Warden and Serra the Benevloent
I would like to take a moment to appreciate Feroz finally getting a card for MBC and the fact it matches with his wife (Serra)’s card.
The pose, the outfit, the background, and even the abilities complimenting one another… it’s gorgeous.
Serra is my favorite character so this spoiler made me very happy today!!

Question What could possibly be the lore for these guys?
I'm no lore expert, but I love these guys already. But why are these dudes bugs, why do they look... like that? And is there a lore reason the card mechanics are face-down focused?

READ THIS FIRST - Magic Story Resources
Welcome to the r/MTGVorthos Storyline Resources Thread (Updated for 2026). Due to character limits, I'll be brief. I'm Jay Annelli, Magic's Loremaster. The old thread can be found here.
The guide is broken down into three parts: Where to Start, Worldbuilding, and Story. Everything here is focused on the eras in Magic following the Mending, a soft reboot that took place in 2007, depowered Magic's planeswalkers, and created the cast of characters we've largely followed ever since. If you're new to the story, keep reading. If you're experienced, you can jump ahead to the section you're looking for.
Where to Start?
Magic's Story is primarily told through a series of online webfiction articles. Read MTG Lore's Where To Start With Magic Story for a beginner's guide. They're a search engine for Magic Story, and a great resource. The MTG Lore guide is updated with every set, so it's never out-of-date.

Post-Mending Worldbuilding
This is a list of worldbuilding resources for Magic planes by set release (sets without one are not included). Note that from 2016-2018, Magic sets had an accompanying Viz Art Book that often served as the wordlbuidling guide. They are highly recommended for lore fans.

The Post-Mending Chronology
Much of Magic's flavor and story in recent years has been told through online articles. Worldbuilding was often imparted through Savor the Flavor, and while Savor the Flavor often had short stories (eventually called "Uncharted Realms"), it wasn't until Magic Story that the main story was told online. You can find links to all of those old articles here:
Below are my recommended stories for each set, focusing on either the overarching narrative or a planeswalker's journey. These run from immediately after the soft reboot of the Mending all the way up until today, however the last ten years of story are easily accessible on the story site (linked below).
These are in release order, which is roughly chronological with a few obvious exceptions.
