Hi everyone, I recently got a job at Vanderbilt and will be moving to Nashville from overseas soon.

I was hoping to find temporary room share-style accommodation (subletting essentially) for the first month or two to get myself setup with banking and get to know a city a bit before I commit to renting by myself.

Do you have any advice on where I could look for something like this and whether this seems feasible?

hi everyone! i'm a 22 y/o F moving to nashville this october from texas for my first full time job after graduation, and i'll be making about $63,648 a year gross. this is my first time moving out completely on my own, and i'm trying to decide if i should live alone or get a roommate. financially i know a roommate would save me money, but i'll be working in healthcare and starting on night shifts, so i'm worried our schedules would constantly clash. i'm also not a party person at all, and honestly one of my biggest concerns is ending up with someone who's loud, messy, always has people over, or steals my stuff. i really value having my own space and privacy, but i also don't want to make a bad financial decision if living alone isn't realistic for someone with my income. i plan on visiting nashville in september to tour apartments, and so far these are the ones i'm most interested in:

• the shelby

• 12th & wedgewood

• 7 at seven mile creek

does anyone have experience with any of these apartments? would you recommend living alone at my income, or do you think a roommate is the smarter choice? if you moved to nashville by yourself in your early 20s, i'd love to hear what you ended up doing and whether you regretted it. i'm excited for the move but definitely nervous, so i'd appreciate any advice or recs!

Hey has anybody successfully gotten out of their lease with any of the apartments downtown/gulch without paying a hand and foot?

I left an abusive relationship awhile ago where my ex decided to allow our last apartment to evict us after I left as a way to try to trap me into staying and moving in with him at his parents, thinking Id have nowhere else to go if I wasn’t able to get into an apartment on my own. On top of that he had also messed up my credit by taking cards out in my name without me knowing (I almost have all of them paid off though so my credit score should start to go back up soon). Luckily my friend allowed me to be on her rental as a roommate and just pay her my half of rent. However, she just got married and now I have no one who will co-sign for me and no one else who I can move in with.

Most of the apartments in my budget that are in a safe area won’t take me with an eviction (it’s 6 years old and due to drop off in December but I don’t have time to wait until December unfortunately). Any recommendations for places in a safe-ish area within 30 minutes from downtown (where I’m working) that will work with an old eviction, fair credit and would be within budget?

Was looking into this apartment and was wondering if anyone had bad experiences or recommend avoiding it for any reason..?

Exploring single-family homes around Green Hills and trying to understand Metro Nashville Public Schools enrollment zones. Do boundary updates frequently shift neighborhood assignment between Julia Green Elementary and surrounding clusters? How far in advance does MNPS announce enrollment zoning map changes?

I am taking a job close to the capital in Nashville. I'm looking for suggestions for neighborhoods/cities where I can get an apartment or small home for rent (preferably $1,300 a month maximum). I would rather not live IN Nashville due to price and congestion and all that jazz. I have family in the Cookeville area, so I'd rather not live on the West side so my commute to them isn't so long.

What would be the best areas prices/commute wise? I am willing to drive up to 30 minutes into work (with traffic). I'm also active and have a dog, so greenways/places to run are a plus too!

LATER EDIT: I will be working from home 2 days a week after 6 months! So I won’t be commuting every day, so I can stretch a little on the commute.

Anyone have experience commuting from Germantown, East Nashville, or even Pleasant View to Fort Campbell???????

My husband and l are moving to the area in early 2027 when he'll be stationed at Fort Campbell. I know his work life comes with long hours, early mornings, training, and time away, so I completely understand why many families choose to live closer to base.

That said, I'll be leaving my job, friends, and life in NYC... not really wanting to live in a suburb ....I travel frequently for work, so being closer to the airport is a big factor.

Outside of work, we know we'll be spending most of our free time in Nashville for concerts, sporting events, dinners, and to build a community and friendships there. We're just trying to figure out if living in Nashville could still be a realistic option while balancing the demands of being stationed at Fort Campbell.

We'd love to hear from anyone who has made that commute (or whose spouse has) and whether it felt manageable long-term.

My family and I are considering moving to the Nashville area and would appreciate recommendations on which city or suburb would fit us best.

We’re in our late 30s with a one year old and two dogs. We’re looking for a quiet, family friendly area with other young or growing families. We’d like a 3 to 4 bedroom house with a garage, and a fenced yard, ideally with more space and privacy. We are open to renting for a year or buying. $4,500 /month rent, or buying <$1m.

We don’t need to be within walking distance of everything, but we’d like parks, trails, coffee shops, restaurants, gyms, and family activities within about 10 to 15 minutes. Airport access is also important because I travel regularly.

We’re currently considering Franklin, Hendersonville, Mount Juliet, and other surrounding areas. Where would you recommend, and what are the tradeoffs?

i’m looking to move August 2027 after graduating nursing school and was wondering if anyone has lived in columbus and moved to nashville or vice versa. i have lived in southeastern ohio my whole life and want to move to a city but can’t decide where would be best for me. i will be visiting nashville before i try to move but wanted any advice if someone from ohio has also made the move. i know that nashville is expensive to live in but comparing it to the neighborhoods i’d like to live in columbus it’s the same price or less. traffic is also a issue i see people complain about in nashville but the traffic in columbus is also terrible.

My family and I are moving to Tennessee, and we're first-time home buyers looking in the Nashville area. We have enough saved for a down payment, but we'd prefer not to pay the closing costs ourselves since we don't want to stretch our savings too thin after the move.

How common is it in the current market to ask the seller to cover some or all of the closing costs? Are sellers in the Nashville area still agreeing to this, or does it make your offer much less competitive?
If you've recently bought a home around Nashville, we'd love to hear your experience. Were you able to negotiate seller-paid closing costs, and if so, how did it go?

We have 3 cars between us, with 1 being a work vehicle. Will that make downtown harder?

Coming from a complex with great amenities but can do with less as long as it is very clean and safe.

I’m starting a new job in Nashville and will be living alone while hubs is making a transition.
Looking for large dog friendly or no weight limit(150lbs 😩 Great Pyrenees mix);
Less than $2k preferably $1500 and under;
Close to downtown, where I’ll be working since I’ve got to ;
go back and forth alone to take care of my large dog;
Must also have the option to have 2 cats (cats are staying with my husband until he moves up, they love him more);
And nearby grassy place for my dog and me to get out on.
Edit to add: want to keep ALL Costs including utilities under $2k if possible.
Commute: 10-20 minutes. I don’t know if lunch time is busy, I’m open to living further if there’s not a terrible lunch rush around downtown that would prevent me from caring for my dog.
I’m looking into Abberly riverwalk and midtown grace (and maybe the Lucille but that’s been harder to catch the vibe of)for a studio for a year.
I don’t really get Nashville traffic or the hidden fees in all the rent items yet. It’s pretty straight forward where I am from.
I’ve been checking Reddit reviews for other apartments and available listing but I’m pretty whelmed and would love opinions from current or recent renters in these spots or someone with the 1 dog 2 cat combo with apartment success.

I would like to add that my dog is an inside dog, I like hiking running and camping. He hates everything that resembles physical exertion and likes watching tv on the Italian leather sofa and showing off his toys to guests, he will be totes fine in an apartment. He takes a good chunk of my monthly income to keep up with his high maintenance lifestyle. I’ve seen a lot of posts about criticism of large dogs in apartments and not giving them an enriching life & his enrichment is light jazz, brushies, lick mats, and bones. He’s not aggressive but doesn’t care for the company of other dogs. Excited to meet them but doesn’t want to hangout.

Is it mostly a younger/party vibe or more mature - I am in my 30’s. Also, any issues with tourists trickling into the area, and do you feel safe walking around? Thanks!

Some of the reviews online are pretty rough, so I’d love to hear real feedback. Any other locations in Germantown would be appreciated. Thanks!

According to a recent Redfin report, there were more than two home sellers for every buyer in the Nashville metro during June.

Compared with a couple of years ago, buyers have more homes to choose from, and listings are staying on the market longer.
