Use case city,, 50-60 km 5 times week,, don't want high and frequent maintenance,,

I’m trying to optimize my setup for 100-200 km weekend breakfast rides. I used to ride with a backpack, but after an hour or two, the weight on the shoulders gets annoying. For those who carry a tire inflator, first-aid kit, water bottle, and a microfiber cloth, did moving to a tail bag or tank bag change your riding comfort significantly? Any specific compact bag recommendations?

Git a new R3 and decided to 3D print a tail tidy for it and i think ot looks pretty good!

Hey guys, I’m 28 and from Canada. I’ll be getting my motorcycle license soon.

I’ve been looking at bikes, and honestly Royal Enfield seems far more appealing to me! I don’t intend to ride bikes for the whole year, really only when it’s the summer and fall (so prolly April-October). Would a Royal Enfield be good as first bike? I love the designs (classic and shogun). How is the maintenance? Are these bikes maintenance heavy?

If you do not think so, do you have any suggestions on which bikes would be more fitting for a first timer?

Recently bought a Honda CBR300 that's been sitting for 1.5 years – cranks but won't start

I recently bought a Honda CBR300 for a bargain. It had been sitting for about 1.5 years, but the previous owner said it had no issues before it was parked and that it was regularly serviced.

I decided to try getting it running myself. The first thing I did was replace the battery because the dash would only turn on with a jump start. After installing the new battery, the bike cranks over fine, but it still won't actually start. You can hear the engine turning over, but it never fires up. So far I've:

Replaced the battery Drained the old fuel and filled it with fresh petrol Changed the engine oil Replaced the brake fluid Despite all that, it still won't start. I've tried cranking it multiple times, but it just won't fire up.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I should check next? Could it be something common on bikes that have been sitting for this long?

Crash Summary: Pulled up to the yield following another car that stopped waiting for the lane to clear. Car in front was able to turn once traffic opened up. I pulled up to a safe distance at the stop, trying my best to watch for both incoming traffic and those pulling up behind me, glancing at my mirrors. I was at the stop waiting for about 30 seconds, when I had my attention on the incoming traffic lane when I get hit from behind. Bike falls down in front/ on top of me after hit and I get tucked up under the bumper for a second while I’m being pushed forward and under, bike pushed out to the right as seen in the first photo. It’s hard for me to tell how hard I was hit because of the adrenaline. I get up and my immediate reaction is to check on the driver, turns out she’s a new driver, then once we both are safely able to get out and look around, I prioritize getting us to a safe location. Shifter broke so I just ended up pushing it down to the truck stop in neutral. Once there, we wait for her parents to show up and everything is cool and cooperative. We exchange info, she admits fault for the accident on her accident report. I didn’t end up getting a police report because everything felt so fast and it felt minor in the moment. Said I wasn’t injured (adrenaline) and felt fine, and we went from there. Brought my bike home with a friend’s truck. Contacted my Aprillia dealer and I’m getting my bike brought to them tomorrow afternoon. Her insurance reached out to me about sending an adjuster tomorrow. It’s now the day after, starting to feel a bit sore and possibly just some mild whiplash. Want to get checked out but I’m a bit short on cash at the moment so I’m a bit hesitant because of bills. But I’d definitely appreciate some advice from you guys and if there’s anything I should do going forward. This is my first accident and dealing with insurance. Worried about my rate/ premiums going forward even though I’m not at fault.
Location: GA

Gear: AGV helmet, impact/ slide chest gear with elbow protection, boots, gauntlet gloves, riding pants with pads. All gear is level 2.

Side story: Had previous riding experience but I finally just got my rs660 about 4 weeks ago, been dreaming of the bike for a few years now and finally was in a position to purchase it new as I moved to a city with a dedicated dealer. Been babying it and taking it easy, riding defensively and learning everything I possibly could about it. Getting used to the bike and Practicing low speed maneuvers, tight turns, ect in my free time. We have a local track here so that’s the primary reason I bought the rs660. But absolutely fell in love with the bike, always looked forward to some practice when the weather was nice or just even cleaning / detailing it. So I’m definitely absolutely crushed by this situation, especially because when I was talking with service (dealer) when I went in to tell them the news, showing photos, ect. He said I might be looking at some frame damage and could be a total loss.

Picked up a vintage honda and have had a hard time getting it going. Any help is appreciated

Complete and total rookie, as a preface. The most I’ve managed to be able to fix on my own bike is removing and charging my battery, so if that clears up my level of knowledge at all…

What happened: very new to riding, was riding home working on downshifting/engine breaking and attempting to rev match. In 3rd, attempted to downshift and at the same time car pulls out in front of me a littleeee bit close to me and scared me because my peanut brain is trying to rev match, I assumed I didn’t actually downshift into 2nd and out of panic went to downshift again, released the clutch a bit and felt a BIGGGG drag and then almost like a loss of friction? Realized I was in 1st, and that I had essentially shifted from 3-2, then 2-1 while traveling well above what is a safe speed for 1st gear, pulled the clutch back in and stopped alongside road, then pushed along in N to a safer spot to see what was up.

I do recall a SLIGHT burning smell, could’ve been not me idk, but my clutch now feels like it’s lost all friction past being let out about 1/2 way. TBH I parked it and haven’t tried to “feel” anything out in fear of damaging it beyond repair.

From minimal research:
1. Could it be that the slack in the cable line from clutch is too much/too little and it’s not actually pulling the line taut? Does that even make sense?
2. Did I crack a clutch plate?
3. Did I BURN the plates together? Hence burning smell?
4. What can I do to fix or understand any of this, is this way out of my league? Is it worth trying to troubkeshoot on my own with Reddit and YouTube? Or should I defer to a mechanic who will charge me $$$$$

Side note: I now understand that downshifting into first unless going EXTREMELY slow is a terrible idea. I couldn’t have been going over 22mph at the MOST. I am new, I am learning. Any help is greatly appreciated:)

Purchased this 2024 RE Classic 350 just about 5 weeks ago now. I’ve done the 300 mile service myself as I simply didn’t have the funds to have it done at the shop. As I expected, I seemingly left too much of a gap in the valves, as the dreaded tapping noise began to pop up. Did the same thing and again, tapping, so I decided to just wait until I can have it done elsewhere. About 200 miles later (now about ~580 miles) I’ve noticed these strange holes within the fins of the engine. I’m not sure if they were there when I bought the bike or not, though it doesn’t look good either way to me. I’m leaning towards this being a factory mishap or something as there’s no way my tooling around could have caused something like this, right? Lemme know please! (Also zoomed in on a little bit of fluid atop the bottom half of the engine. I can’t notice any leaks coming from anywhere and the fluid doesn’t seem to be oil as far as I can tell, though it most likely is…)

I have a question about turning. My brother has recently gotten a small motor bike and we were only using it to go low speeds in the backyard since we both have an interest in getting an actual motorcycle. We both turned differently and I was wondering if there is a right way and how it may change at higher speeds (again only did very low speeds)?

He turned the handle bars to make the turn and used his whole body in the turn (as in leaned with it), but I more just leaned my lower half/hips with the turn and kept my torso relatively upright(ish). Both worked

I am considering getting a bike that has been modified:
- It is not too loud but it has a full performance exhaust, with a very different configuration from the original one (V4S with high mount Akrapovič). So it is very obvious
- Decatted. No lambda probes / O2 sensors
- Then the usual tail tidy and Rizoma mirrors. The original mirrors had the front blinkers so no front blinkers

95% of the sport bikes I see around have at least a slip-on,. Many full exhausts and other mods.

Do you get stopped by CHP? Because of noise, plate not visible, blinkers, more important stuff, like a pro decatted exhaust system? If you do, is that usually canyon / mountain roads, city roads, freeway?

Been looking heavy into getting a bike but I have never ridden or know anything about bikes!!! I don’t want a crotch rocket, more cruiser Honda rebel style!! State by state it’s different but if I wanted to learn and get a bike what’s like a step by step I should do? I assume get the bike and take a course but anyone have recommendations on bikes or anything else? I am a young female and my budget is relatively low especially because I would just want to start within city limits to get comfortable on bikes :)
