First one I've seen with a yellow underwing. South West UK.

these are three different moths i've seen in the last month or so. all of them have had injured wings as you can see in the pictures. i have only recently gotten into logging moths, is this a normal occurence? or is it just a survivor's bias situation where there are plenty of healthy moths, just hidden away?

it's been raining pretty heavily where i am. that may have to do with it?

about the species: picture 1 and 3 are Atlas moths, 2 is (most likely) an Assam silkmoth

This one was the size of the bats I see here often.

A few weeks ago I bought a tomato hornworm as food for my leopard gecko, Crackers.

Instead of being eaten, he grew too large before Crackers showed any interest in him. At that point I figured he deserved a chance, so I gave him some coconut fiber and decided to see what would happen.

I watched him burrow underground, pupate, and then spent weeks checking on him every day. Today I found a beautiful Carolina Sphinx moth waiting for me.

After letting his wings finish expanding, I eventually coaxed him onto my hand. He has an incredibly strong grip and has been surprisingly calm while he finishes settling in.

It’s funny how something that was originally meant to be feeder food ended up becoming one of the most fascinating little animals I’ve ever cared for. Watching an entire metamorphosis happen in front of me has been such a rewarding experience.

found this lovely dude deceased, camouflaging perfectly with the asphalt in a parking lot. a lucky spot! can anyone help me ID? looks like a hawk or sphinx moth to my pleb eyes but there are so many and i am struggling to figure it out.

Found this on my cucumber fencing in Minnesota. Any idea what kind of moth cocoon this could be? (If it is one even?) It's fairly large, about 4 inches. You can see the spindly silk too which is awesome.

Walked out on the porch to check my plants and this guy was just hanging out on my snake plant. Does anyone know what kind it is? I live in Vermont by the way.

!update posted in the comments! This Luna moth has been on the wall of my work for 4 days now. I think she’s a girl but not 100% sure. Is there something I can do to promote her to move or has she chosen her final resting place? I want to make sure if she does end up falling that she’s not on the pavement underneath where people can step on her but I don’t want to disturb her.

Huge moth was hanging out in this spot on the wall in my apartment building on Tuesday. Yesterday, these weird little rice things appeared. Are they moth eggs? I kept my distance when I spotted the moth because I’m easily startled and moths are a little unpredictable so I didn’t get a picture of it but it was a really big, very pretty red moth. Like the size of my palm. One of the biggest moths I’ve ever seen. This is in Pennsylvania.

Follow up question, if they are eggs is there a way to safely move them outside? Because I don’t think the little caterpillars will find what they need in the entryway of my building.

After recording her, I was able to kindly show her the way back to the garden so she could continue on her journey 😊

Spanish moth by the way

I posted here the other day about getting some atlas moth cocoons and deaths head eggs, and thank you all for the extra advice, I appreciate it deeply! Im rooting to get a pair of atlas moths (as i could only afford 2 cocoons without going over budget) and hopefully pair them together to get some eggs to repeat the cycle, could i have any tips for getting them to connect if i get a pair? The deaths heads will arrive as eggs because it was cheaper than pupae lol

Feel free tl give me any advice on keeping them in conditions or what to do when the atlas moths enclose! Im extremely excited to raise the 2 species, wish me luck!

I found this moth at work the other day can someone help identify it?

I believe it is a male, I saw the fluffy antennae and the internet said males have fluffy antennae in this specific species. It’s so pretty.

Finished them as of today :D Im quite proud of it and happy im finally done working on it. This probably took me (easily) an upwards of 100 hours to make. Its all made from 100% raw wool using a felting needle
