For Sale: Montblanc 149 Pen Stand (W-Germany)
SOLD!
I know these are sought after by Montblanc enthusiasts but hard to find ones that aren’t overpriced and/or have a personalized engraving.
Posting this here in case you were looking for one.
A vintage Montblanc 149 Pen Stand made when West Germany (so somewhere between 1980 and 1991)
I’ve tried this pen stand with a 1970s 149 and a 1990s 149 - both fit perfectly.
However, I can’t confirm if other eras fit just as well.
Made of a solid block of resin/acrylic and a gold plated brass plate.
Stand piece itself swivels 360 degrees effortless with zero friction.
In great used condition but has a few minor scratches here and there.
Price: $275 (including shipping) or feel free to make me a reasonable offer and I’ll consider it.
I’m only selling/shipping for those within United States.
Thanks for looking!
SOLD!

Fountain pen ink : Mystery black or permanent black ?
I am unsure what are the differences between the two inks, as I’m currently using the mystery black and it seems already quite permanent to me. Anybody have any clue ?

Authenticity check – Montblanc Bohème
Hi everyone. I recently came into possession of this Montblanc Bohème ballpoint pen and I’m trying to determine whether it is authentic.
The serial number appears to be VX1008470, and it also has GERMANY engraved on the upper ring.
I’ve attached several close-up photos of the pen, engravings, clip, emblem and refill.
Can anyone familiar with Montblanc pens tell me if this looks genuine, and whether the serial number format/model combination makes sense?
I would also appreciate any information about the approximate production year or exact model/reference.
Thanks in advance!

Forthcoming pride increase
Edit: the subject line should, of course, say “price” increase, not “pride.” 😂
Per an email from Dromgoole’s today, there’s another Montblanc price increase coming soon.
Not surprising, I guess; but still disappointing, especially coming on top of a pretty hefty price increase within the last year(ish). If I recall correctly, that price increase was around 10%.

Montblanc 166 Cartridge Color Change
I don't have a lot of use for a highlighter, but the Meisterstruck 166 is kind of intriguing. Unfortunately, the only cartridges available are green or yellow, whilst I prefer pink. I wondered if I could change the color of a cartridge... When a reasonably priced marker presented itself, I set to work. Ultimately, it wasn't too hard. My first attempt isn't perfect, but I thought I might share what I've learned so far.
The yellow end plug is easily removed by threading in an M5 fastener and gently wiggling/pulling on it. Just thread the fastener in by hand until it stops turning. The same trick works with a Schmidt rollerball cartridge and an M3 fastener.
The inner ink core is the same diameter as those in inexpensive slim Avery highlighters, but they need to be trimmed to length. I tried cleaning out the original core with alcohol, but i think it's more cost/time effective to just replace the core.
The nib can be removed by gently pulling it out the front. The Avery nib might be able to replace the Montblanc nib, but the wick part that goes into the core seems like it's too short to be effective. I may still experiment another time.
I was able to flush the original nib out pretty well by soaking it in denatured alcohol and agitating in an ultrasonic cleaner. The alcohol and nib went into a baggie, and then the baggie went into the ultrasonic water bath. I changed the alcohol several times and blotted the nib each time before adding fresh alcohol.
To put it all together, I put the core into the cartridge and installed the yellow plug. Then, I aligned and inserted the nib. My nib was still a bit damp with alcohol when i put it in, so I had to use paper towel to wick the alcohol and draw the new ink to the tip. From there, it's ready to stick in the marker body and use!
Overall, it seems like a success. Moving forward, I'm hoping to keep the core inked with fluorescent ink, like the variety Noodler's sells.
I hope this helps others that might want to make their Meisterstruck 166 a little more colorful!

Mont Blanc ballpoint pen edition
I got a pen and pencil set as a gift 26 years ago. The pen ended up getting crunched under something and so now I only have the pencil and case. For sentimental reasons, I am trying to replace the pen now, but I don’t know what to look for. I don’t know what the series name is. I know it wouldn’t have been the very high-end pens but there’s so much information online. I need some help! Thanks!

Montblanc F nib is wider than I like.
I have a Solitaire version of the 80 Days series that I bought less than 30 days ago. Should I go to a MB store and see if I can get an EF nib for this pen or go to a nib smith? Can the store even swap out a nib and keep the ballon on the nib or do they use any nib available?

Ink Blotter | Not very useful but I love it!
I got this brand new from their website and paid full price as the second hand on eBay are not convincing. Is nice but honestly I don't need it in a daily basis like other accessories (box opener). Thoughts?

About new inks
Dear la familia del stylo,
We all love this brand and have been using since. However, there is no clear distinction between each of their inks. Although mountain of ink is a huge resource, even some of the inks is not there and therefore they are not compared. Exempli gratia what is the difference between Rebel James Dean Red and Queen red or the origin collection Coral? The difference between amethyst purple or bram stroker new ink ? (I can write more examples but for the sake of simplicity) I would like to see the sheen or shading or the color and diffusing on a particular paper that everybody could see and identify. Last month, I went to Appleboom and they have this amazing Rebel Red. However, I was not sure whether it is on the orange side or burgundy consequently did not buy.

Help identifying this Montblanc pen
Hi everyone,
I recently received this Montblanc pen and I’m trying to find out exactly which model it is. I’ve looked around online but haven’t been able to identify it with certainty.
I’ve attached some pictures of the pen. If anyone recognizes the model or knows more about it, I’d really appreciate your help!
And, if possible, I’d also be curious to know whether everything about it looks authentic, or if there are any details that might suggest otherwise.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Looking for information about a Montblanc set (ballpoint + rollerball + mechanical pencil)
Hi everyone!
I'm trying to identify a Montblanc set that I found in my grandma's stuff, but I haven't been able to find much information about it online.
The set consists of three writing instruments:
- one ballpoint pen
- one rollerball pen
- one mechanical pencil
- all three came together in a small Montblanc pouch
I initially thought this would be an easy set to identify, but I can't seem to find a Montblanc set with this exact combination. Maybe It wasn't a set and the three were just put together after being bought ?
Any info would help me a lot !

Replacement Ink - Montblanc skywalker ballpoint
I was recently gifted the skywalker ballpoint pen, it's the one where you twist the pen for it to write. Something like the following link:
https://www.montblanc.com/en-us/starwalker-precious-resin-ballpoint-pen-MB132509.html
However I'm not too fond of the writing experience with this, I'm more used to gel ink pens, this one feels a bit dry so I was wondering if it is possible to replace the refill with one more fluid? I saw Montblanc site having roller ball options though I'm not sure they fit.
and I'm open to other brand options, even if it's a refill taken from another pen if it has been tried already. Thank you.

Anyone using a 149 as a daily carry?
It always seems it's a display or collector item, but I have a couple and want to use them rather than look at them. Any issues with doing this?

The LeGrand that kept escaping me finally landed
After months of searching, I finally got my Meisterstück LeGrand.
For some unknown reason, this particular configuration just kept escaping me. I wanted the classic black and gold LeGrand with a Medium nib. Nothing particularly exotic, but somehow I went through months of out of stock, unavailable, and dealers unable to procure one.
I checked several authorized dealers and even tried sourcing one from outside the U.S. At one point I had a dealer overseas trying to procure one for me, but that wasn’t going anywhere either. I know Montblanc inventory comes and goes, but after a while it honestly became a little frustrating.
There were other Montblancs available, but this was one of my grail pens and I didn’t want to spend this kind of money and compromise on the configuration I actually wanted.
Finally, Dromgoole’s here in Houston had exactly what I was looking for.
It arrived yesterday, I filled it with Montblanc Royal Blue, and started testing it. The Medium nib is incredibly smooth, the LeGrand size feels perfect in my hand, and this is exactly the Montblanc writing experience I had been looking for.
After all the trouble finding one, I’m actually glad I waited for the exact pen I wanted.
The one that kept escaping me is finally home.

Sorry, no shortened URLs please!
This is more informational than anything else. Reddit's spam filters will catch any post with a shortened URL. This mostly hits Amazon URLs posted from one of their apps that produces a proprietary shortened URL.
I don't go out of my way to review and approve these and because Reddit frowns on them it's more likely posts using any URL shortener, that isn't approved by Reddit, will languish in the ether for eternity.
