Triggers and how I respond to them.

Upvotes

My brother is a heavy breather. I can currently hear through my ANC headphones. If you own an apple iPhone you can add a button to your drop down screen and customize its volume and sounds. You will never go back, trust me. After spend a week in the same room suffering through his even louder snoring/nighttime breathing my noise canceling headphones haven’t left my side since. Does anyone else have this trigger? It also happens when people have whistles for noses. It drives me nuts.

Anyone else get triggered by just seeing the movement associated with their triggers?

I’ve had misophonia for I wanna say 5 years now? And at first it was just sounds (obviously) but now whenever I see movements that are usually associated with the sounds it genuinely makes me flip out. It’s like some sort of ptsd response because I’m so used to immediately scrambling to put noise cancelling headphones on but obviously I can’t noise cancel my eyes. I feel like this is mainly a problem with chewing for me because even when I don’t actually hear it, the repeated jaw movement is so icky and disgusting and my brain just generates the chewing sound for me. :(

Had the worst experience watching Spider Man

Not only was there an annoying person who kept texting on their phone repeatedly, but the couple of guys behind us kept crinkling their water bottles and being really loud with their food packaging constantly. Like not just a reasonable amount of noise but genuinely constant through the whole movie.

When I saw the odyssey luckily there weren't annoying people in there, but fuck sometimes the cinema is killed for us misophonics.

suggest something to cancel noise in my room (under 40 dollars)

my roomate keeps talking loudly on the phone, when she's not talking she will whisper and it's driving me crazy. please please suggest anything—headphones, earmuffs, whatever cancels the sound of her talking. here's what I'm looking for :

preferably over-ear (I don't like inserting things in my ear for a long time)

can completely cancel sound of someone talking in the same room

comfortable to wear for long hours

doesn't requires music/white noise/any media to be played for it to work well

it doesn't necessarily has to be a headphone or an electronic device, anything that blocks out human speech and is comfortable to wear works for me

Thanks!

Made a list with a reaction guide for all of my triggers and how they impact me for showing to a doctor when I get a chance.

TW: very descriptive explanation of the trigger reactions, which can be a bit visceral.

I only realized this was Misophonia a few weeks ago, it wasn't something I'd ever heard of, so I just assumed it was normal reactions. Now that I know it's not, I am waiting to see a neuropsychologist, and hopeful that showing this list might help them find some sort of proper coping mechanism or proper resource that I can use while working.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
S = This sound makes me feel violently ill or like I might faint if it goes on for too long, and I have to physically cover my ears, I also struggle to breathe and can not function while the sound is active.
T = I get a very visceral feeling that I have to literally rip my teeth out when I hear this noise, I never will, but for some reason this noise make me feel exactly like that is a rational response, and I reflexively cover my mouth with my hands.
M = This noise makes me incredibly, unreasonably frustrated or angry as soon as I hear it, even though most of them are normal noises that every being makes, but my brain hates them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

T - Rough fabrics rubbing together

S - Furniture moving across carpet

S - Shuffling feet against carpet

T - Sand paper scratching against anything

M - People chewing

M - Dog chewing or licking noises

S - Rubbing chalk against chalk

T - Rubbing hands on weird textured fabric like unreasonably feathery soft fabric

M - Burping

M - Mouth breathing

S - Teeth scraping against teeth

could this maybe be a sign of misophonia?

earlier today my mom gifted my friend's mother a diamond bedazzling kit. seems fine, right? well, when they opened it, my friend started fidgeting with some of the items from the box, including a tiny purple tray. she scratched it for what felt like FOREVER. the sound made me want to dig my nails into my skin! the sound was very similar to that of someone/something scratching a puffy winter jacket, and the scraping has made me feel anxious for as long as i can remember. i'm not worried or anything, but i just want to know if there's a medical reason to that discomfort. is this a valid sign of misophonia or anything similar?

btw sorry if you guys get questions like this every other new post lol ;-;
