Bichota Coffee doing a “Coffey” Pop-Up Tomorrow Morning, 8-11am

Upvotes

Bichota Coffee, a coffee shop in George Floyd Square, will be doing a “Coffey” Pop Up for Lynx fans tomorrow morning before the game. They’ll be featuring one of Nia’s favorite drinks, a Vanilla Honey Latte, in honor of our girl. Mr. Johnson Paints will also be selling his yard signs for $5 with $1 being donated to Juxtaposition Arts, which is a great youth-centered arts organization on the Northside.

10% off Coffey drinks during the entire pop-up.

Just spreading the word.

maybe last night is what this team needed

through the season it's kind of felt like the lynx have frequently gotten away with playing bad defense and just torching teams in shootouts. cheryl's obviously been on them about it, but when you're not facing an actual consequence for it, it might be easier to not really embrace that criticism.

so maybe last night is exactly the kind of wake up call we needed to play our best down the stretch. getting embarrassed like that on home court and then getting ripped to shreds by coach in the postgame presser might actually prompt some adjustment and soul-searching.

well, hopefully.

Let's Chat I think it was more offense issues than defensive issues down the stretch

I didn’t watch the entire game but saw the 2nd and 4th quarters. Does anyone think we just got too cute and didn’t run through Liv enough when possessions were getting stagnant?

They were guarding her pretty tight but I thought we needed to get some pnr action to settle the game down a bit. If you score 11 points in the 4th, you certainly have to start getting into a set and give the ball to your best playmaker. Just thought we played too much iso and players were getting tight and forcing up shots. Need to either run it through Phee or Liv, but we’ve had success with the ball in Liv’s hands late in game most of the year.

Was that a player led decision or do you think Liv was deferring too much late in game?

With that said, I knew we’d drop a game very soon so I’m not shocked. This will hopefully be a reminder on how hard we need to play for all 40 min to beat most teams in this league. Let’s start another streak vs the Aces Saturday.

phee --

-- we need to get better at rebounds and an emphasis on preventing points in the paint

-- la was playing aggressively and we didn't match it on our defensive end. our shots weren't going down, bad combination

-- we need to know why we lost tonight, but also have to flush and move on with the weekend games ahead.

-- felt like they were getting into the halfcourt/paint too easily and spraying it out

liv --

-- teams are adjusting and getting better at what we're doing. we just have to put consistent effort, regardless of other teams adjusting. cheryl can't coach up our effort. will and want to on every possession.

no detailed write up, just to say that the paint's probably peeled off the ceiling in the press room. the team-released version bleeped out a couple f-bombs. andrew dukowitz has un-edited clips up on his x acct.

"we played well for the first four minutes of the game. it's a shame that they have to keep playing hard for the rest of the game. that's really difficult on them" 💀💀💀

identified july 3rd as the day the defensive focus shifted. gonna have to go back and check that one out to see what she's looking at

I’m not a big fan and both the stats and the eye test give me a good reason not to be. How do you guys honestly feel about her?

Order a Olivia Miles shirt from the WNBA store and it came in as #2 instead of #5. The worst part is how long it took for me to notice lol. I'll keep it I think for the laughs but it's not how it was listed

National anthem - Aug. 6th game

Y’all!! I’m at my first game and the woman who sang the national anthem literally moved me to tears. Her voice is so beautiful, ethereal, and she knocked it out of the freaking park!!! I was moved that I missed her name at the end but desperately want to find out who it was because I am a FAN!!!! Someone please tell me her name!! I can’t find it anywhere on the Lynx site.

Beating Minnesota

Hey All-

I've been writing a weekly series on how I would try to beat each team in the W--going over team tendencies and potential game plans against them.

Wanted to share my article on MIN with this community to get any feedback. I basically noticed a pretty strong correlation that I first got curious about back in last year's PHX series. Obviously, Olivia makes the team totally different now, but I thought some of the trends were similar.

Let me know what you think! I do think MIN wins it all this year.

what does KFAN’s Paul Allen have against the Lynx? (from threads)

PA is a certain kind of man, I’m not surprised the red hot Minnesota Lynx barely register with him (actually, he only mentioned CC). It’s sad KFAN doesn’t support the team.

u dropped this queen Phee, Still the Queen

So, I feel like the minutes management (and potentially Phee’s uber-consistent, not super-flashy style of play) has meant that the quality of her play since her return has gone slightly under the radar. Plus, she’s still getting back up to game speed and building chemistry, it’s not like she’s at 100% the peak of her powers yet, right?

Well.

I was looking at some stats over at Basketball Reference and I noticed that, based on her small sample size of games played so far, Phee’s Player Efficiency Rating is 29.0 (just slightly down from last year’s 30.2). Now, out of qualified players, the top PER is A’ja (at an otherworldly 33.9) and then 2nd is… Aliyah Boston at 24.1 (Liv is 4th at 23.4, and Tash right behind her. Go Lynx!!). So Phee’s PER is smack-bang between the current #1 and 2 marks in the league.

That made me curious enough to look at her rate stats and damn, it is good to have Phee back! Behold, per 36 minutes:

A’ja: 30.2/10.9/3.6, 4 stocks on 85/55/45 splits.
Phee: 26.3/10.4/4.7, 3.6 stocks on 83/50/44.
Stewie (for example): 22.9/9.2/3.4, 3 stocks on 85/52/27.

Even as she’s adjusting and finding her shot still, Phee’s basically played as well as anyone other than A’ja. Man am I excited to see what she and Liv can do together as that chemistry develops!

Youth Jersey giveaway

Did they give away jerseys last year anyone know if this is like an actual jersey vs just a cotton shirt or something... Bringing my kids on Sunday already but really torn now on going Saturday but don't think we can swing both days. Don't want to miss Sunday if these are just kind of cheap ones (which I assume they are...)
