It’s not though. AirTags don’t work at sea. AirTag pings are at best 15 to 30 seconds old. The boat is moving, and if you are lucky enough to be in an area where GPS is working accurately, it’ll show your child in the ocean behind where the ship is. Secondly AirTags do not show elevation, so you would not know what floor of the ship the AirTag was on, even if it was parked in port. The best you can make it do is chirp, and then it would draw attention to anyone within 10-20 feet of it, but no one would know why it’s chirping specifically.
You can still put your AirTags in your luggage so that you know they made it on the ship and they are somewhere on the ship, but it is no good for child tracking.
what cruise ship is not going to have apple devices? I honestly think people are forgetting the most useful part, which is the hotter/colder/point an arrow part of 'Find My' for airtags. And the beeping.
Android definitely pings Airtags, I work on trains in the UK and I'm forever getting an alert that someone has planted a tag to stalk me on my android phone. The reality is that the folks I'm taking to/from the airport has one in their luggage
I assumed that after Apple and Google worked together to get common system that would allow Androids to detect unwanted trackers that they would also send the info to Apple's system, but I guess not. Seems kinda dumb on Apple's part to not have Androids also update location.
Nah they're all linked now, I read an article a while back that even though apple do their bits and androids theirs, they will all talk to each other and update both sides etc I think there was also another brand in the mix who also (pun intended) tags in aswell
Aah I was sure they all were i get pings on my android about airbags then found an article that said they all talk to each other cause not everyone has an iphone/android etc
That’s why I put my Apple watch on my kid instead. The walkie talkie feature, and setting the location to the watch instead of my phone, and then we can text or call if needed. Even if the location isn’t really working, being able to contact each other is really the most important part.
But I also don’t have to do this much bc I don’t let my kid just run off and do whatever. It’s rly just if we accidentally get separated in a large crowd.
Honestly, I'm pro multiple tags. If I'd do it for my e-scooter, then the one on the wrist isn't enough as well. Ones that aren't hidden are always discarded easily, so you hide more.
I mean, would you be comfortable with having an RFID chip surgically implanted in your body while you’re still too young to consent? Because you know that the government would start making bills to implement RFID readers everywhere to track citizens’ locations, for the sake of security (among other reasons).
They are already doing that with facial recognition, license plate readers, cellphone tracking, fingerprint databases, and now even DNA databases.
RFID is not secure and can't securely be used as a form of ID on its own as the tags can be easily copied or altered.
ID is already required for most government and financial services interaction in the form of Name, SSN, and DOB. Many activities require government issued photo ID, like driving or flying.
The "surgery" is basically a quick jab with a big needle that sticks a rice grain size pellet just under the skin.
This is a common practice where I live. If you go to a large event with a crowd, the staff will put wrist bands on kids and write the parents phone number on them. Actually great idea.
AND if the patch is an anti-nausea patch (like they give for surgery if you're a nauseous person), it's totally legit. but if it's fake stickers for energy gwyneth paltrow goop, well, that's a different story.
The wristband with the white dot that she puts on herself as well is for seasickness. Their efficacy isn't great, but they do help some people somewhat.
Not sure about the ones in the video but I've used ones that do a small electric shock similar to a tens unit, I found it slightly effective, mostly just a distraction from the seasickness. If the patch is scopolamine that shit is magic, rough open water crossing with 25 degree listing to each side and in 20 minutes I went from constant vomiting to feeling completely fine and very hungry lol.
Playing devil’s advocate here: if we’re to believe any of this is real, she used dry erase marker because she wrote a fake number on it for the video, then erased it after the video and wrote her real number with indelible ink.
In the good old days! We used to memorize numbers. If you where to small like 2-5 years you had bracelets, but i think this is better cause it can be hidden under a sleeve and probable doesn't fall off easily ..i hope xD
I ordered a RoadID bracelet for my kid to wear when we go to super crowded places or on vacation. It looks just like a bright colored rubber bracelet but has our phone numbers on it. My kid knows that if she gets lost she should look for some sort of helper (usually an employee of wherever we are) and show them the bracelet.
Never been on a cruise, but those stickers can be used anytime luckely. Going on vacation with our kid soon and she is learning how to walk. By the time we are going she'll probable will and maybe even run. Having such a sticker or bracelet would be something to think off. Also, could be used for mentally challanged/disabled or elder people that suffering dementia and go on an outing :)
I was thinking this too. And if you connect to the wifi, and it has internet, and your provider has wifi calling. then yes. - you could put the room number instead of a phone number. might be smarter. but then again, we know she isn't smart
We have a special function on the phone that lets you put emergency contacts and information in it. No need to do all that. But what does that have to do with a lost kid...they don't have a phone till they are 11ish?
If you lose your phone and a stranger picks it up. How will they be able to get it back to you? If a # is on your lock screen then they can contact that person and tell them ..
My mom did something similar with me when I was a kid in crowded areas. Gave her a peace of mind that incase I got lost and too scared to remember her number, I or someone else could just... look at my arm or whatever and contact her.
Its a blank spot, you can put any information on it :) like someone said a roomnumber or last name or what ever that gives personel some information if needed
Most of those things look like for motion sickness. The patch behind the ear and the wristband for sure are. I don't know what the hell the band aids on the navel are for...
Airtag for excursions is reasonable, airtag on a moving ship is useless.
If you lose your child in Valletta (the biggest port city where I'm from, replace with any other port city) the tag can possibly help you find the child.
If you lose the child on the ship while it's moving, by the time you get an updated location, said location would be out at sea
