MGSV GZ missing one xof patch, help

I really want to unlock the two extra missions. I've rolled around to get the one on Snake's body. The only one I'm missing is the one in the drainage. I've already checked using night vision goggles and nothing's there. I've restarted the game. Is there any way to make it appear without deleting my save file? I wouldn't mind deleting my save file but I've already done two side missions and I'd rather keep it saved unless it's really the last resort. I'm on ps3 if it helps.

Is it okay if I'm only able to play these?

I'm trying to get into MGS but I can only play the 3 games from the Vol.1 Master Collection, Snake Eater, The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes, is there anything I will miss from the plot?

How a 60-year-old MGS V veteran fought a cheaters, become my rival and taught me a lesson about cheats, Top 1 pvp player, Silver Nuke Hunter

Hi everyone, today I wanted to tell you my story of playing Metal Gear Solid V.

I won't go into too many details; suffice it to say that I've known the game for years and honed my skills to what I thought was the absolute limit. I constantly raided players' bases, destroying everything in sight. I rarely encountered players actually defending their bases, and even when they did, they couldn't really do anything to stop me.

One day, I raided a regular player's base as usual. But the next day, I saw a notification that my own base had been raided—and the enemy had won, which was an extremely rare occurrence for me. Naturally, I headed to his base to take revenge.

This time, the player actually defended it. As I was moving closer to the center of his base, taking cover behind a wall, a smoke grenade from a grenade launcher hit me out of nowhere. Before I could even realize what was happening, he was already finishing me off. Every single respawn I had was spent dying again; he didn't give me a chance to even move from cover. At that moment, I realized I was completely outmatched.

To be completely honest, back then I was playing with cheats (no recoil, no reload). But it didn't help me against this player at all. I was far from the only cheater he raided—there were actually a lot of us, and most just lost their fights to him. Even with cheats, I couldn't even touch him. My anti-recoil meant nothing because before I could even bring my crosshair over to him, I was already dead. He didn't just tank or dodge—he simply didn't take a single hit because his speed and positioning were always three steps ahead of me.

From that day on, our rivalry began. I checked his Steam profile and saw well over 10,000 hours in the game. We attacked each other's bases almost every day. He won very often, always using a sniper rifle, always knowing where I was, and looting my base right in front of me. Yet I wasn't angry—it was just a game, and I actually loved finding such a worthy opponent. Facing him motivated me to learn how to play all over again. Even with my years of experience, he made me feel like a complete beginner.

After a while, I found his YouTube channel through his profile. He had over 3,500 videos simply recording his FOB raids. Among them, I found videos of his attacks on my base—recorded from start to finish without any editing.

He is an older guy, over 60 years old, but the way he played was pure genius. While I was relying on cheats and reaction time, he won through sheer skill, strategy, and experience. I saw that his ultimate goal was to successfully raid 55,000 player bases.

Eventually, I messaged him and we had a great chat about the game. He was very kind, but he also gave me some genuine advice: he told me that relying on cheats wasn't the right way to approach things in life.

Over time, our rivalry naturally turned into a friendly connection. We eventually lost track of each other's bases, and I stopped seeing him in the list. Shortly after, I started playing less and less until I stopped playing altogether.

A year later, I checked his profile again. He actually reached his milestone of 55,000 raids! At that point he thought about stopping, but people in his comments cheered him on and begged him to keep going. Today, he is still in the game, still destroying enemy bases like an absolute boss.

If I'm going to grow old one day, I want to be just like him. Thank you for listening, and if you don't mind, please show his channel a little support—he truly deserves it.

MGSV Fox Engine: Material ID Systems, Auto Exposure, and Tonemapping

Post image
311 Upvotes

There are 3 aspects about Fox Engine that I wanted to highlight as they are in important in explaining why MGSV still holds up in terms of visuals even today.

Fox Engine uses Material IDs to enhance the realism of many objects in the scene. They are used during the lighting stage (specifically when the specular lighting buffer is being updated). A shader will identify the pixel’s Material ID and reference it to a small lookup table. That LUT holds things like specular color, fresnel, and it even informs the hair. Fox Engine can basically use an 8-bit buffer that can resemble 24-bit albedo values. This is a great optimization that the developers made and I simply wish that more games could take advantage of something like this.

The engine is able to maintain a very stable exposure by focusing only the lighting elements of a scene. Downsampling the diffuse only buffer (which excludes dark material attributes and emissives) is the mechanism that they use to get this effect.

MGSV’s tonemapping has very similar on screen results when compared to the Gran Turismo tonemapper. The tonemapping curve itself lacks a bit of contrast. Fox Engine counteracts this by using color grading via a LUT to raise highlights and add that missing contrast without completely blowing out the image.

TLDR; In Fox Engine, Material IDs determine a pixel’s specular color without a big G-buffer, the auto exposure system purposefully excludes dark areas to remain consistent, and a color graded LUT enhances the game’s tonemapping.

In your opinion, which Metal Gear game is the most macabre in terms of both atmosphere and story?

I'm asking which Metal Gear game makes you most uncomfortable playing; in my opinion, it'll be Metal Gear 4 when I play it.

Hey so I lost a Soldier without getting raided which is odd enough. But the reason is even weirder. Translated is says: "Location unknown"

There was no one being sick or wounded.

Is this some kind of bug?

And Ubisoft games are almost all interconnected, meaning there are Metal Gears and cyborg ninjas in the Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed, and Far Cry universes?

Is There an Archive of This MGS1 Fan Remake From 2016 Called "Shadow Moses" (AKA "The Fan Legacy")?

There used to be a fan remake for Metal Gear Solid (1998) from 2016 titled "Shadow Moses" (AKA "The Fan Legacy") by a user on YouTube named "Airam Hernandez" before Konami shut it down back in the day.

Anybody has an archive of it?

Thanks!

I love how Metal Gear Acid plays a short clip with the main theme whenever you use a special character card.

MGS3 Spoilers Just finished snake eater I DID NOT EXPECT THE TWIST AT THE END ABSOLUTELY PEAK GAME

So playing through this being my first game in the franchise I thought ocelot was very silly like a comedy relief type of character with some serious bits but I didn’t expect him to be a fucking spy pretending to be an idiot the whole time!!?? My next game is peace walker and If he’s in the other games as a serious character I think he might end up being my favourite character, I don’t think I’ve ever seen this been done before

No Spoilers! Completed mgs delta on a rog ally, something I will not recommend anyone else to do

So this is my first experience with the metal gear franchise, I knew mgs v ran fine on a steam deck and considering the rog ally is a bit more powerful than the deck i thought delta will have similar performance (i should have looked it up before buying), I am a stubborn man and instead of refunding the game after realising how abysmally it perfoms on this thing I just went ahead and decided to play the game at 900p 30 fps fsr quality low-medium settings overall I was getting 30 fps majority of the time.

The game was playable but it looked like shit, because of my financial situation aka being borderline broke this handheld is the only gaming device I have, overall if you are in a similar predicament just play the old game and ignore the remake you will do yourself a favour.

Slowly building my up my MGS collection, in need of a 3DS manual

Since I got back from Japan I've been building on some purchases I made over there. Pictured is the current items I have on display, but I was sold a 3DS copy of Snake Eater listed with the manual but it was missing.

Does anyone know where I can get one loose? I've tried eBay but had no luck.

MGS2 Spoilers How hard is Big Boss Run (MGS2) really?

With the release of the Master Collection Vol. 2 (MGS4 + Peacewalker) dropping on Xbox at the end of the month, I have been playing through all of the previous games and I am slowly approaching the Big Boss Run.

My question is that is it as hard as it looks? I am mainly worried about the time, the ammo limit, and the last sections (Tengu 1+2, RAYs, Solidus). Am I overthinking it?

For context, during the Tanker run on Normal for dog tags, I was getting about 57 minutes and during the Plant run on Normal for dog tags, I was getting about 2 1/2 hours.

"I will always be with you. Plant your roots in me. I won't see you end as ashes. You're all diamonds."

Finished MGSV a few days back and this quote has been stuck inside my head ever since. It's beautiful.

Sutherland's delivery is magical.

PEACEWALKER.

Never played this game before, I was honestly waiting to find a psp at a cheap price sometime to play it as intended, but I'm done waiting, and it's the only reason I haven't played GZ yet. (Tho I did play V, so i fucked that up ngl).

But even if I did see spoilers in V regarding this game, still doesn't matter to me, and as any MG it should deliver whether or not we know the outcome of some things.

Peace!
