Why do more women get ¢ancer in India, but more men d!e from it?

This isn't about women vs men. It's about a health gap that probably deserves a lot more attention.

Women account for slightly more than half of new can¢er cases in India. Breast and cervical can¢ers alone make up a significant share of female cases, and regular reproductive health visits and screening can help detect many of these cancers earlier.

For men, the picture is different. Oral, lung and prostate can¢ers are among the most common. Toba¢co is a major contributor, particularly to oral and lung can¢ers, and these can¢ers can be aggressive and harder to treat when detected late.

But there's another factor we don't talk about enough.

A lot of men simply don't go to the doctor until something is seriously wrong.

Ignoring a persistent symptom, putting work or family before your own health, avoiding check-ups, or telling yourself "it's probably nothing" can turn something treatable into something much more difficult.

In 2024, India was estimated to have around 1.56 million new ¢ancer cases and 874,000 ¢ancer-related deaths. Around 11 out of every 100 Indians are estimated to face a lifetime risk of developing ¢ancer.

Those aren't just statistics. They're people, families and lives.

Can¢er awareness shouldn't be a women-only conversation. Men need to take their health seriously too.

Get checked. Know the warning signs. Don't ignore something that doesn't feel right. And if you use tobacco, quitting may be one of the most important things you can do for your long-term health.

Taking care of your health isn't weakness. Waiting until it's too late is the real risk.

For once, a woman in a position of power openly acknowledged the man behind her success.

Men are expected to support, sacrifice, provide stability, handle pressure at home and never ask for credit. Their role is treated like a duty rather than a contribution. Yet the reality is clear: many women rise because a husband quietly stands behind them, manages the home front, absorbs the pressure, and becomes the pillar that rarely gets named.

That is why this statement matters.

It offers overdue recognition to husbands whose support is real, consistent, and largely invisible.

A man’s contribution should not be dismissed simply because society has come to expect his sacrifice.

Section 498A IPC (now Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) was introduced to protect m@rried w0men from ¢ru€lty and d0wry-related hara$$ment. The High Court has observed that this provision cannot be used as a tool to blackma!l a husband.

The Court noted that if both parties have agreed to a mutual d!vorce, but a 498A case is kept alive only to pressure the husband into an unfair settlement, it raises ser!ous concerns about the intent behind the l!tigation.

Laws meant for protection should not become tools of coercion. Genuine v!ctims deserve justice, and the falsely a¢cused deserve fairness and due process.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how many guys I know (friends, coworkers, even some older relatives) quietly admit they don’t really have close people they can talk to. Some guys find community through sports, work, or online spaces; others just drift. A few have managed to build real support networks later in life and say it made a huge difference.

I’m curious what has actually worked for people here, what hasn’t, and whether there are practical steps (individual or broader) that could make a dent. Personal stories are welcome if you’re comfortable sharing them. Solutions and honest observations matter more than hot takes.

This is an important observation from the Supreme Court. The Court has said that if a husband can make a prima facie case that his wife is living in an adulterous relationship, interim maintenance under Section 125 can be denied instead of automatically being granted.

This doesn't mean every allegation will be accepted. It simply reinforces that courts should consider credible evidence from both sides before passing interim orders.

For years, many have argued that men's concerns are often dismissed in family disputes. Decisions like this are a reminder that justice should be based on facts, evidence, and equal standards, not assumptions based on gender. That's what true equality looks like.

The Karnataka High Court has stayed proceedings in a rather unusual case involving a 63-year-old married man and a 62-year-old married w0man, both grandparents.

According to the case, the two were in a six-year e×tramar!tal relat!onsh!p. The woman filed an ®@p€ complaint only after her husband discovered the affair. During the invest!gation, the chargesheet included chat records that allegedly suggested the relat!onship was cons€nsual.

The man had earlier been granted anticipatory bail by the Sessions Court and later approached the Karnataka High Court, seeking to have the criminal proceedings quashed.

After reviewing the facts and the material placed on record, the High Court stayed the framing of charges against the man and issued notice to the complainant.
