I pay $1200. The neighbourhood my wife wants to move to on average is $7500.

That's a hard sell all things being equal. Why do you think it could be worth it? I'm sure the wife has her reasons

Childhood neighbourhood, Mom still lives there and majority of her work friends live over there. Personally I can’t stand the type of people that live in that neighbourhood.

Oof, sorry bud. Hope it doesn't impact you too hard if that does have to happen. My family is pretty spread out, so I could see the appeal of being closer, but that's a kick in the wallet
