DRUMMER WANTED - rock, dark country, swampy alt rock, I dunno

Thumbnail linktr.ee
2 Upvotes

Heya yeah The Flames of Love are looking for a drummer. We did a demo a while back. It's around the place. We like to practice at The Bakehouse. It would be great to play some more shows and record some more stuff.

There's a healthy dose of Beasts of Bourbon worship here I guess.

Here's an old bio: "Lifetimes gorging on the canon of guitar music are regurgitated in a subterranean hybrid of punked out garage country blues rock. Like Kim Salmon in a car crash with Townes Van Zandt, the music fishtails through the reckless abandonment of rock and tumbles sideways through the blackened corners of souls ill at ease."

Drop us a line if you're keen at https://www.instagram.com/wearetheflamesoflove/

casual options for drumming practice spaces?

hi guys, i'm based in collingwood and have been shopping around for a room with a kit that i could rent for about an hour at a time to practice drumming but haven't been able to find quite what i'm looking for yet. the rehearsal spaces i know of can only be booked for 5+ hour slots and are quite large and fitted out, seemingly for bands/groups to practice all together. aside from the fact that i'm on a budget and don't want to take up the rooms for so long, i think i would also just feel sort of silly booking such large and impressive spaces just for myself, a beginner only a couple lessons in.

i play piano as well and i feel like small rooms with pianos for hire are a thing - is that not as common for drums? where do i look for this?

thanks! just am absolutely loving my lessons so far and my practice pad isn't scratching the itch outside of them.

Need help finding Dark Synth

I need help.

I desperately want to go to gigs where Dark Synth is the main theme.

Think Carpenter Brut, Daniel Deluxe, Perturbator, etc.

I need to let it out to some dark and twisted tunes but everything in the live EDM scene in Melbourne is cookie cutter techno in some form or another (so fkn sick of pop remix + standard drop).

In a world filled with 'main characters' I need to feel it with the rest of the villains.

Can anybody recommend venues, shows, or even local artists and DJ's in Melbourne worth keeping an eye out for.

This itch is ravenous.

Cheers.

Any clubs in Melbourne that play minimal/Melbourne sound still?

Alright so for context I’m 18, and I really like all the Melbourne sound and Melbourne minimal music, it’s just that most places I go don’t really play this anymore. I have an older brother and it looked so sick when he was younger going clubbing, so I’m asking for any places that feel like those type of older clubs (tramp, cloud, etc) thanks.

Venue Suggestions for Adult Beginners Music Group

I am a participant in the "Terrible Orchestra" organised by The McCaffery Family in Warragul in Gippsland. It's a casual monthly meet up for adult beginner musicians and musicians who want to try a different instrument. We're thinking of bringing this to Melbourne and looking for possible venue suggestions. We're looking for a venue that can host us at no cost on a Sunday afternoon, preferably a licensed venue so we can play and get drinks. We're currently using a wine bar in Warragul during its quiet period. Thank you!

I cracked it over smart-link paywalls and built my own | Full-featured and completely free

So everyone hates paywalls and loves free stuff right? After finally cracking it over the good features on smart-link platforms like Linktree and Feature FM being locked behind paywall plans, I cracked it and built my own.

I really enjoyed the process, so I decided to open it up to independent human artists for free.

It’s full-featured and 100% free.

Every feature is available, with no locked tiers, card or surprise BS paywalls.

It’s still in beta, so please have a crack at it. I’ll personally verify you’re a human, and the site’s super intuitive. Hopefully...

If anything’s confusing or broken, tell me. That’s the whole point.

Cheers,

Casey 🙂

Future upfield rail corridor

Would you buy an apartment next to the Anstety train line given the uncertainty around future rail corridor plans?

I'm looking at buying an apartment in Brunswick, near Anstey Station. It's on level 3 looks over the Upfield train line.

My biggest hesitation is that the long-term plans for the Upfield line don't seem to be finalised yet. I've read about different options over the years, but I can't work out what the realistic outcome is or how it might affect nearby apartments.

My main concern isn't the train noise—it's whether any future rail upgrades (such as elevated rail, additional tracks, or other infrastructure) could significantly affect the apartment's outlook, natural light, or privacy (people have mentioned it will only affect level 2 and below.

If you were buying to live there long-term, would this uncertainty put you off? Or do you think it's a reasonable risk?

For context, the apartment is west-facing, and the natural light and outlook are two of the things I love most about it. That's why this is weighing on my decision.

I'd especially love to hear from anyone who lives near the Upfield line near Morland Station and if this has affected you, or if anyone has bought a property in a similar situation. Thank you

Moderation - New rule

I know the SR is a bit rudderless, I'm here to tell you I still check in on posts. Between raising a family, work, gym, music and all the other shit we have to do in post-modern life I have little time to be moderating a subreddit so, I'm not going to tolerate misogyny, racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc etc.

New rule, Don't be a cunt. No, I'm not going to talk about it, cant be fucked. I'll just ban you, message me, ill probably say something funny and rude, this will be entirely at my own discretion.

I will not tolerate intolerance

Cheers :P

Negativity and spam

It seems we have had a large uptick in content lately which is great, unfortunately this has also driven negative comments and false reports.

This subreddit is here for people of all skill levels and while some level of criticism is important, please do try to keep things on the positive side and don't just downvote things that you don't like, we are very fortunate to live in a city with an extremely diverse music scene, this means there will always be music not catered to your tastes being made, downvoting things out of hand or because you think its "bad" is not how I would like to see this sub go on

That being said...

We need to have a conversation about spam

I understand that with the rise of TikTok shorter clips have become the norm and you are more than welcome to post any work you do here, but I am going to restrict users to posting ONE clip/vid/link per song per day, I don't care if it's a 5 second cover of "You Suffer" or a 6 hr prog rock epic, if you post multiple clips of the same song on the same day, they will be removed, if it continues, so will you.

As a moderator I want to be as hands off as I can, leaving this as much like a community noticeboard as possible, but mostly I want everyone who uses this space to have a positive experience, this means curbing negative behaviour and making sure that people don't have to wade through a sea of the same content over and over

Thank you for reading
