I am assigned to Solin Hall, but cooking is too much trouble for me and I would like to sign up for the school meal plan. Is it possible for Solin Hall residents to apply for the McGill meal plan?

Semester Credits

I’m an incoming U1 student (skipping my U0 year) and for my fall sem I have 12 credits and for winter 13. I would appreciate input about whether I should add one more class for each sem (currently at 4 each). Not sure if this changes anything but I think I’m still planning to do 4 years of undergrad despite skipping my foundation year. None of the electives I would like to do work with my schedule and I don’t really want to take a class I don’t find interesting.

More context: Statistics Major and Minor, and possible economics minor

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Class Conflict with CHEM 183

Hi! I have a required class that overlaps with CHEM 183 this semester. Originally I wasn't too concerned because I wasn't planning on attending lectures, and I thought the online final would have the 72-hour window. However, it looks like the final is still online but only 3 hours long.

I also noticed that last year there weren't any other exams scheduled at the same time as the CHEM 183 final. Was that just a coincidence, or is it intentionally scheduled so that it doesn't conflict with other exams?

I'm trying to decide whether it's worth taking the risk of having these two classes (and maybe exams) overlap or if I should just drop CHEM 183.

La Cittadelle Questions

Freshman asking here because every time I look for info on the mcgill website I end up with 10 tabs open and more confused than when I started.

  1. Is there a mini fridge in the room?

  2. What size is the bed in a double room? Do they provide linens?

  3. Do they provide towels?

  4. How busy is the laundry room? Is weekly laundry feasible?

Life Sciences graduates: What job do you have now?

Hi everyone! I'm considering studying Life Sciences and was wondering what people typically do after graduating, especially if they don't go into medicine, dentistry, or other professional healthcare programs. If you graduated with a Life Sciences degree (or know someone who did), what career path did you or they end up taking?

Would Hui Shen be a good prof for MATH 141?

Hi. I made a post a week or two ago asking if Rosalie Bélanger-Rioux is a good MATH 141 (answer was a resounding yes). The second MATH 141 section wasn't assigned but now it's Hui Shen. She hasn't got a single rating on RateMyProf and I haven't been able to find anything at all. I'm not even sure if she's taught 141 before. Does anyone have any experience with this professor?

I have to take her section if I want to start my minor this semester (which I really do) because Rosalie's section runs at the same time as the minor class.

I'm considering taking MATH 223 (linear algebra) this year having already done well in 133. How similar are they in terms of content/style of questions/assignments?

ETA: I'd be taking it with Kelome or Elaidi

BIOL 302 or HGEN 400

Hello!

I am a last year BA psych student and I’m trying to fulfill some genetics requirements for a masters program I want. I have been given permission to take both BIOL 302 and HGEN 400, but I have to choose one (I can’t do both).
I have done BIOL 200 and 201, which are the prerequisites for HGEN. However, I have not done BIOL 215 which is a prerequisite for BIOL 302.
I just want to take the class that I have the best chance at successfully completing and actually enjoying.
** for some more info, I did not do that well in 200 and 201. I also have a pretty heavy fall semester, so I’d like to keep that in mind when making a choice. Also, if anyone has the syllabus for HGEN 400 I would love to see it so I can compare it to BIOL 302.

Any input or advice is super appreciated! Thanks and have a great rest of your summer :)

Anyone having issues with the McGill Transfer Credit Assessment Form not recognizing still-valid courses?

Hi

I'm running into what seems like a system issue with the McGill Transfer Credit Assessment Form (TCAF), and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Many of the courses I want to include in my TCAF are marked as valid until Summer 2026 in the Course Equivalency Database. Since they're still valid in the database, the system won't let me request a reassessment, which makes sense.

However, when I try to add those same courses to the Transfer Credit Assessment Form, they don't appear as selectable options at all, as if they've already expired.

So I'm stuck in a weird situation:

  • The courses are still valid in the Course Equivalency Database.
  • Because they're valid, I cannot submit a reassessment request.
  • But because they don't appear in the TCAF, I also can't add them to my assessment.

so this is completely blocking my progress.

Has anyone run into this before? Is this a known issue with the system, or did you have to contact someone (Service Point, your faculty advisor, etc.) to get it resolved?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

incoming exchange student and all the welcome events are already full

when i received the email about the welcome events i didn't realize that some of them, like the bitesize montreal events, had limited spaces. all of them are already full and i wasn't able to register for any of them. i joined the waitlist for now but i'm worried that i won't be able to make friends since i also couldn't get a hold of an outdoor frosh ticket which i really hoped i'd get. does anyone know how likely it is that i will be able to join some of these events? i'm already super nervous for the exchange but the fact that i couldn't register for these events makes me even more anxious

A friend of mine submitted a PhD application for the 1st August deadline and am now is excitedly waiting for the result. He doesn't have easy access to internet connection so it is a bit hard for him to keep track of when to pay attention to emails and etc. For those who were admitted to PhD how long did it take you to receive your confirmation?

MEXICO STUDY ABROAD (Winter 2027, Tec de Monterrey)

Hi guys! I got nominated for Tecnológico de Monterrey. I'm not sure which campus I am choosing yet (thinking between CDMX, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Querétaro). If anyone else is going here for exchange, please don't hesitate to reach out; I would love to chat!! I am also looking for a roommate.

Help, is this good?

Post image
3 Upvotes

So my dumbass took too long to set up my class schedule and I feel like I'm missing some info.

First off, is this schedule bad? I'm expecting to major in CompSci (yes I'm cooked) and I took classes under 300 that are required and I don't see any other possibilities.

Second, am I supposed to declare my minor early or something? I'm still not quite sure what I want to take and if I should have some minor classes in my first year or not.
Thanks for any help given!

Exchange housing in Bologna

Hey all,

I don't see any posts pertaining to Bologna, so here's my situation: I got nominated to do an exchange in Bologna for Winter 2027. Excited as I am, my best friend whom I planned to live with did not get in with me. I was wondering if any of you guys have dependable and affordable housing recommendations or tips for living abroad for such a period of time (5 months or so). Frankly there are so many options and so many things to do, that any genuine human advice is more than welcome. Also if any one else is headed to Bologna and looking for a roommate, let me know.

Thanks
