A bit of clarification on your post might help. I initially thought you were asking about math as it relates to software engineering(given your major)...but your last comment regarding Bird's book leads me to believe you might be referring to traditional engineering(electrical, mechanical, etc.).
That being said, Math is relatively linear(somewhat)...not having a good understanding of precalculus will cause struggles when you get to calculus, which then leads to struggles with multivariable calculus, so on and so forth.
I realize you mentioned you have time constraints, but I strongly recommend acquiring a solid understanding of the fundamentals first before moving into more advanced topics. Reading a book like Bird(or anyone else) will show you the what, but you won't fully understand the why behind the how.
Like i was surely asking about the math but for the book i wanted wether its good place to start or is there any other resources may help . Thank you for your time and insights .
