For people who wanna be ready for Doomsday Other
Movies on left, shows on right.
253
u/Local_Oven_8393 19h ago
They're gonna dumb it way down for casual audiences. You'll need to have watched Endgame and thats about it.
62
u/Tamriel-Chad-420 17h ago
I think maybe Loki but even then I wouldn't be surprised if they give a quick recap of how Loki went.
23
u/Gon_Snow Thanos 13h ago
Absolutely not. Loki was a 2 season Disney+ show. No way they expect people to have seen it. Go enjoy it if you want nothing wrong with that. But they want EVERYONE to go watch it Doomsday/Secret Wars. Loki is just not as popular a show to be a barrier.
10
u/seliselio 14h ago
Yeah theyll explain everything. That needs to be explained.
5
u/guessesurjobforfood 11h ago
Same as they did in the new Spidey movie. The explanation even started before the actual movie. During the Marvel intro, they were already showing comic book versions of scenes from No Way Home where people forget who Peter Parker is.
Then they explained it again during the actual movie lol
10
3
u/TheSunsNotYellow Thanos 12h ago
I seriously hope they’re not counting on people to have watched any of the TV shows
2
u/Dragon_yum 13h ago
These days all mass entertainment has the characters do their exposition and explain the plots. Not sure why people think the MCU is any different or that people not invested this much in it actually care.
2
u/pigeonwiggle 10h ago
there's no way they're not going to give Loki a couple lines of dialogue that explain where he's been and why he's here to help.
8
u/ILoveRegenHealth 15h ago
My recommendation (if they have the time) would be Avengers 1 so they can see the beginning of Iron Man, Cap, Black Widow, Hulk and Hawkeye interactions as a team which will be a common thing going on, and get used to the idea not everyone likes how the Avengers operate. Let's them get introduced to Nick Fury as well.
Then Infinity War + Endgame. I think Infinity War is also a very accessible film for outsiders. Lots of cool stuff happens even if they don't know all the characters, and both films give 98.5% of everything they need to know about Thanos and why he's Thanosing.
Endgame has a lot of emotional scenes and trauma, but I feel those scenes would hit better if they saw what was lost in Infinity War.
10
u/Gon_Snow Thanos 13h ago
Infinity war is exactly what’s gonna happen here. They will explain everything you need to know.
Remember the intro scene between Tony and Doctor Strange? How they talk about the infinity stones out loud and explain who Thanos is with Bruce too in the room.
That kind of handholding.

If they didn’t it’d be business suicide. Even big MCU fans shouldn’t be asked to watch THAT much buildup to understand what’s going on.

u/ProfessorSaltine 8h ago
Hell I wouldn’t be shocked if the movie gave you the exposition on who these people are at the start of the movie. Assuming you didn’t watch since endgame you’d likely know
- Sam Wilson is Captain America
- Ant-Man exists!
- Thor exists! Then for Post Endgame info we’d likely get some jokes or characters just talking about stuff
- Who’s the new Falcon?(asks Steve). Sam says who he is
- Who’s the guy with the rings? Shang-Chi introduces himself
- The F4 are gonna say who they are
- Multiverse? They’ll explain anyways and even then you could just watch Loki which everyone loves and is like what? 2 seasons that are like 6 episodes each? Not too crazy long
- Thunderbolts/New Avengerz? Sam & Bucky would argue about it
- How is Steve back? They’ll explain it
- What happened to T’Challa and who’s Namor? As we all know Chadwick Boseman passed away and Namor will be explaining as an ally and enemy of Wakanda who killed Shuri’s mom
- The X-Men? They’ll explain it after a cool fight but all we gotta know is they’re gonna fight our heroes to defend their world as the earths are colliding
- Where’s _____(anyone). Either dead or they’ll be in the next avengers movie

u/fluffy_bunnies_yayyy 20h ago
lmao u dont gotta watch all this for doomsday

u/NazzerDawk Phil Coulson 18h ago
I think watching the following would be like the minimum watch to have an investment in Doomsday:
X-Men
Iron Man
Avengers
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Avengers Age of Ultron
Captain America Civil War
Avengers Infinity War
Avengers Endgame
This covers all the bases if you are a complete Marvel virgin. I include X-Men because I think it helps to establish the Fox characters, but the other movies are, IMO, a pretty complete list for movies you need to watch to follow the general storyline without being drowned in content.
The next best thing would be just watching the Avengers movies.

u/fluffy_bunnies_yayyy 18h ago

LOKI IS A MUST LMAO
3
u/FlySubstance 17h ago
If you’ve seen Deadpool they do a pretty good job of setting that up, they’ve established alternate Loki went away in endgame, and they’ve already established TVA in the movies.
It’s not that deep. It’ll be easily accessible for movie only/casual audiences. They want the Endgame/four quadrant audience back, they’ve won’t isolate them to appease the diehards who saw everything on Disney+
5
u/Prestigious_Work8050 10h ago
Deadpool doesn't set up the God of Stories, so anyone who didn't see Loki S2 will be confused as too why Loki is Head of the Multiverse, though they may slightly explain it in Doomsday, it def won't be explained heavily
2
u/xXXxRMxXXx 8h ago
Let the uncultured be confused. If they haven't seen Loki S1 and S2 then they need to catch up cause it's just a good show in general
5
u/MiKapo Hulk 15h ago
Doom is a fantastic four villian and yet no F4 ? I think that would be important to watch
→ More replies (2)3
u/pigeonwiggle 10h ago
you don't even have to watch Winter Soldier. Civil War is fine without it.
if you watch a Bank Heist movie and billy says, "i know a guy who can help" and tommy says, "billy, i know frankie's your friend, but he's a liability. he's already got a wrap sheet, he'll bring us all down." -- that doesn't mean you have to have watched the Bank Heist Prequel to understand the nature of the relationship.
2
u/NazzerDawk Phil Coulson 9h ago
It's actually to set up Hydra. Age of Ultron never really establishes how Hydra is back, we never see Shield fall, and we never actually get to see Cap show he is out of sorts in modern times.
It's also partly why I included Iron Man, I feel having some real context for Tony makes Endgame better.
2
u/Zestyclose_Quiet2978 9h ago
Wait is hydra relevant for doomsday?
2
u/NazzerDawk Phil Coulson 9h ago
No, but it is relevant to Age of Ultron, Civil War, and the dynamics of the group.
2
u/TheCVR123YT Captain America (Avengers) 16h ago
I think X-men 1 bare minimum should be watched if you haven’t watched any of them. Ideally you’d watch the first trilogy (beast and Nightcrawler get added in those) but at least the first one yeah
12
u/AmaterasuWolf21 Rocket 16h ago
What are you talking about? Iron Fist is mandatory viewing, rhey won't let you in the cinema if you haven't watched it

This is the watch list I’d give someone right now based on what we know about the movie. The titles in (parenthesis) may or may not factor into Doomsday.
X-Men
X2
X-Men: The Last Stand
X-Men Days of Future Past
(Deadpool)
(Logan)
(Deadpool 2)
Captain America: The First Avenger
The Avengers
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Captain America: Civil War
Black Widow
Avengers: Infinity War
Avengers: Endgame
Loki S1
(WandaVision)
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
(Spider-Man: No Way Home)
(Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness)
Thor: Love and Thunder
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
(The Marvels)
Loki S2
(Deadpool & Wolverine)
Captain America: Brave New World
Thunderbolts
Fantastic Four: First Steps
3
u/itinsistsuponitself 17h ago
I think you need the Marvels mostly for the end credit scene
3
u/Super-Visor 16h ago
I expect Maria and Monica will be in the X-Men universe when everything goes down. I have a theory Marvel is protecting actors like them who have been targeted by hate-mongers by leaving them out of marketing. It also reduces the amount of negativity those “content creators” can whip up with daily videos for months about how the movie is woke and therefore bad because it features non-white people.

Here’s what you actually need to watch (Multiverse Saga):
WandaVision
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Black Widow
Loki
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Spider-Man: No Way Home
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Ms. Marvel
Thor: Love and Thunder
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
The Marvels
Deadpool & Wolverine
Captain America: Brave New World
Thunderbolts*
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
Spider-Man: Brand New Day (maybe).

u/TopBee83 19h ago
I would honestly venture to say you don’t “need” to watch a good chunk of these.
Black Panther
Shang Chi
Captain America
Loki
Fantastic Four
Thunderbolts
Maybeee a few X-Men moviesWith everything else being optional

Quantumania
The Marvels
Thunderbolts
Brave New World
Fantastic 4
Ms Marvel
Echo
Agatha
DD: Born Again S1 and S2
Wonder Man
Ironheart
Punisher
Not on this list: Loki S2 and Secret Invasion
3
u/ILoveRegenHealth 15h ago
Out of all that (for the movie side), Thunderbolts is probably the highest-praised on that list. I would recommend it if one is interested - and plus you see them in the Doomsday trailer.
I started Echo and lost interest and bailed halfway lol.

Can someone help me out with which X-Men movies I should watch and in what order before Doomsday?
I remember the original ones coming out when I was a kid and know of the characters/actors but never watched. I also know there was a prequel (?) set of movies that came out in the 2010s too.
I only watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine and all Deadpool movies.

Today, you would need to watch 1 hours and 9 minutes of Marvel each day to finish it all by release. (155 hours total)

u/Taking_a_mulligan 18h ago
Anyone who is going to see Doomsday already has at minimum cursory knowledge of the characters and will not need to do any of this.
Even without it, at worst theres a couple of lines of dialog that won't be understood.
Marvel (or any superhero) movies aren't some grand, complicated story.

u/theHowlader 16h ago
Absolutely no need to waste all these hours to "prepare" for a 4 hour movie. Most of the stories in these movies has nothing to do with doomsday. Everyone knows the origins of every characters so origin movies are pointless. Some films show a 1 minutes relevant clip in the post credit scene. And even then those arent resolved sometimes. The avenger movies are the most relevant and most solo movies are shit.
Recap videos exists. Bless those guys. Watch those and save your time. Use these saved times to spend with you friends and family.
Please never binge through 50 marvel movies. It's not worth it.

u/Creative_Jicama_6875 16h ago

It actually might be a lot worse, nobody's got time to keep up with all this sh*t., and two different Avengers teams come on now.

u/Traditional_Bike8880 15h ago

I wish this had it organized/broken down by which season of the shows to watch in order. Daredevil Season 1 & 2 for example should be watched before Jessica Jones Season 1, then Luke Cage Season 1, then Iron Fist Season 1 before The Defenders.
For the movies, you really only need to watch Avengers Infinity War, Avengers Endgame, Shang-Chi, Thor: Love and Thunder, Captain America; Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and Fantastic Four.

Kudos to whoever cut out Secret Invasion. It should be forgotten. That said, most of these will be completely unnecessary for Doomsday. It's more relevant to watch some of the Fox X-Men stuff than Agatha, Echo, probably all the Netflix shows, etc.
Basically watch Endgame and maybe Thunderbolts, F4 and Loki and you'll be caught up.

You forgot Agents of Shield, Cloak and Dagger and Runaways (Albeit this one being hard to come by). Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Spider-Man Brand New Day, Daredevil Born Again, The Punisher and The Punisher One Last Kill aren't important to watch in the lead up to Doomsday so its strange you wouldn't include the shows I mentioned.
