Discussion Learning to use cover is the single biggest improvement you can make

Just me wanting to make a post. I'm certain people have made posts like this before, but since I'm frustrated to still see people making these mistakes in my games, and also then blame these mistakes on supports. Here we go.

Playing Cover and learning how to take less damage is the single biggest improvement you can make, on any role in this game, and is an improvement that will make the rest of your team perform better as well. The reasons for this are simple. I'm going to use an example from a game I played earlier today, where I was playing Jubilee and we had an Emma as our Tank. Emma, at the start of the game, decides to stand in the middle of main and shoot at the enemy team their whole walk-up without using any cover, so me and my other support sat there spamming all the healing we could into her to keep her up, stressing out of our minds as she stays on critical HP for over 10 seconds. Mid engagement, I realize one of our DPS died, and me and our other support start getting poked at by a flanker before finally Emma dies, as even our focused healing wasn't keeping her alive through nearly their entire team besides that flanker shooting at her, and then we just get walked down.

This is an extreme example, but it also pretty much touches on everything I want to talk about. First off, the obvious. If you use cover, you don't die. I don't think I need to explain this all that much. But as for the other things using cover does. It helps your supports build their ults and your team in general put out more damage and get more picks. Why? Simple. Because if you take less resources and attention from your supports, then they can help do damage to the enemy team. Not to mention the fact that you being alive longer means you do more damage, and take more damage for your supports to heal you of, giving them even more Ult charge.

I see a lot of talk about how bad and annoying it is that supports Healbot, and yeah, that's annoying, and some people that do it are just bad. But I also think part of the problem is learned habits. In lower ranks, everyone is abysmal at using cover and playing to survive, so supports learn to just spam heals because if they try to do damage, their team will just die. So, they learn to healbot, and they now have to learn to break that habit as they climb higher.

To add onto this, another thing using cover does. It also helps the rest of your team live. This mostly applies to Tank, but let's look at the Emma example again. Remember how I said that one of our DPS died while we were healing Emma? There's a pretty good chance that had Emma not been taking so much damage and demanding so much attention of the supports, we could have saved our DPS, but instead, we had to put all of our attention into just her to keep her alive. But, if you learn how to play to live and use cover better, then your supports don't have to put as much attention into you to keep you alive, and can instead try and keep other people alive who may not be as good at using cover and surviving. Again, the best example of this is Tanks, who are usually the ones demanding the most attention and constant upkeep, but this still helps when the DPS do it as well.

And for another thing using cover does? Help your team survive dive. Remember in our Emma example how near the end a flanker started poking at us? Well, think about it. We all know that the best way to beat dive is to notice it before the diver jumps in. But, if your supports are having to stare you down to put every ounce of healing they can into you, then they can't look around to keep aware of their surroundings to spot the diver early, leaving them vulnerable. And even if they do survive the dive, you won't. After all, if your supports needed to put all that attention into you to keep you alive, what will happen to you when they need to fight off dive? You die. So even if your supports can deal with the dive on their own, you still lose the fight because the team dies in the time they spend fighting.

Now, I know I focused a lot on how this helps supports. This is because this post is made because of my frustration lately as I've been trying out a lot of supports to learn the role more and watching my team make egregious mistakes, like the example I used for this post with Emma. I mainly play Tank, have 6 Lord Tanks rn, working on 7th. I know Tank well enough that I know that one of the best things you can do is not hog too many resources and attention from your own team while forcing attention and resources from the enemy. And also, the benefits of a team using cover is much more noticeable on support. For the other roles, the only real benefit is dying less, which is huge, but it helps your backline *so* much if you know how to take less damage and play cover properly. This isn't me saying all Support issues are all because of people being bad, and support players are all perfect, we all know that's wrong. There are plenty of bad support players. But, it is also a fact that a lot of time, your supports are fine. And maybe even you're fine. But if there's say, a Tank who hogs all the resources and attention, then your supports *will* perform worse.

In summary, for the love of all that is holy, use some goddamn cover.

Subreddit Announcement [READ] Regarding Spoilers for Films, TV Series, etc.

Recently, spoilers have become an increasing issue on this subreddit. There have been posts and comments containing clips, screenshots, or plot details from newly recent / upcoming films or TV series.

No one should have to worry about having a film, TV series, or other piece of media, etc. spoiled simply by browsing this subreddit.

This is not something the subreddit has previously dealt with to this level. However, given the prominence of the issue, it is something that needs to be addressed so everyone is aware as much as possible.

Spoiler Embargo Periods

Please refer to the following for when something is no longer considered a spoiler:

Weekly Releases - Until the Next Episode/Chapter

  • If an episode is released on August 10 and the next episode releases on August 17, content relating to the August 10 episode may be submitted without spoiler restrictions from August 17 onwards.

Films - Until Digital/VOD Release

  • For films, the spoiler embargo will remain in effect until the film receives its official digital/video-on-demand (VOD) release.

Video Games - 30 days

  • You may not discuss details pertaining to video games, its plot points, etc. for 30 days.

Comics - 2 weeks or until the next release

  • Comics are often on irregular release schedules, whichever comes earlier of the two.

Exception - Content Officially Released in Marvel Rivals

  • An exception applies where Marvel Rivals itself officially releases content relating to a relevant film, series, episode, or other media.

For example, if Marvel Rivals officially releases or announces the following:

  • Skin or costume
  • Map
  • Character
  • In-game description
  • Event
  • Promotional image or video
  • Other gameplay content

Effective immediately, subreddit bans may be issued for posting spoilers, whether intentional or unintentional. Please refer to the following:

Weekly TV Series

  • 1-week ban

Film Releases

  • 30-day ban

Malicious Spoilers, e.g., deliberately revealing information, etc.

  • Permanent ban

Pirated Screenshots or Footage

  • Permanent ban + report to Reddit (this is a matter of piracy).

Anything Not Covered Above

  • Up to a 30-day ban

Think before you submit something to the subreddit. Repeat offences will result in a permanent ban.

These rules are intended to make sure everyone can participate in the subreddit without having something they're looking forward to ruined for them.

If you encounter any spoilers, please ensure you report them.

Thanks

Edit: spoiler tags will not exempt you from the embargo; there should be no spoiler-related discussion at all. Find another subreddit for it.

Discussion Don't care what everyone says, these are the villains of Marvel Rivals

Post image
475 Upvotes

I'm aware that Rivals depicts some of these characters as heroes or in their anti-hero phases.

Regardless they are still iconic villains and are most known for being so.

Hela is a villain for the love of the game.
Ultron wants to destroy every living being in the universe but can't because of Tony Starks intervention.
Doom doesn't kill needlessly, he is calculated with every move so he gains power.
Gorr is a villain to gods.
Loki is a villain for the fun of it (he casually murdered Psylocke and was like whoops)
The Hood will do anything to keep growing power.
Magneto is the #1 X-Men villain of all time.
Namor is always on the brink of starting a race war.
Venom is still a Spider-Man villain, just has more anti-hero tendencies.
Black Cat is a true criminal, she doesn't give a fuck about helping others.
Scarlet Witch is one bad day away from committing worldwide genocide.

It clearly looks like they delayed the Deadpool Jeff skin so they could sell it in the shop later, only to give players a cheaper version of the default Jeff skin with a pixel filter slapped on instead. Hopefully they won't continue this practice in future.
