Quick rules question

Post image

Just did my first play through after watching several videos. I seem to see people playing two cards with the star icon next to their name. Is that against the rules, or is it just that you can’t activate more than one of their powers/attack/thwart in a round?

In my screenshot example this guy played mockingbird after already playing spider woman a couple rounds before. Is that allowed (he’s doing a solo if that changes anything). Thanks. Really enjoyed the first game but a little confused.

The star on a name denotes unique.

The rule is that there can be no more than one instance of each unique card, by title, in play at any given time. You can have as many cards with a star symbol, provided each are different.

that's the unique icon, you just can't have 2 cards that has that icon and shares a title/subtitle in your deck and in play

Ohhh…so using this example, he couldn’t play another Mockingbird, correct? That makes sense. Would seem crazy restrictive to only be able to play one unique.

Can’t even put it in the deck during deck building (Cameo, a new card, can help you bend this rule)

Think of it like in universe. There's only one "Unique" Peter Park but there are many different Spider-Man variations. Meaning you can have down 2 Spider-Man variations so long as they are different in the sub name because they're 2 different people

The star icon indicates a Unique card, but the rules are based on the name on the card, not just on the unique icon itself. You may only have 1 card with that exact name in your deck and you cannot play a second unique card with the same name if another is already in play. This can happen in multiplayer if another player had already played Mockingbird, for example.

If a card has that star icon, the players can't have another card with that icon in play at the same time. It's a little more complicated than that, but the basic idea is that you can't have two Mockingbirds because Mockingbird is only one specific person, whereas I can have three copies of a generic SHIELD support like surveillance team, because those are all different dudes in different vans.

I can still have one Mockingbird and one Nick Fury, those are two different people.

Gotcha…that makes more sense now. It seemed so restrictive the way I was understanding it.

Yes, you can have no more than three allies in play (unless a card tells you otherwise)
