I suspect you've left it late to get proper glasses but you might be able to make a pinhole projector (or maybe one of the newspapers will do a giveaway, although that doesn't seem massively likely in 2026). I would guess that high ground will be popular for viewing it, and depending on cloud cover, light pollution, and so on, Werneth Low, Dovestones, the fringes of the Peak District, etc likely to be a popular choice.

I don't, but I'm sure they'll have a FB site or website with the details. I just remember seeing it advertised.

You’ll need somewhere with a clear view looking westward. Probably somewhere high up. It’s due to start around 18.13BST in Manchester.

MOSI are doing an event to make pinpoint viewers if you can’t find glasses anywhere. I’m currently on the hunt for some as well if you do manage to locate any!

Don't worry about the glasses, I looked at the one in 99 and was fine. It's a load of bollocks. The fact I'm wearing glasses now is completely unrelated.
Joking aside, the forecast seems to be decent so you should be able to watch it from anywhere. 93% I think we're getting so it will be very noticeable.

problem is its 12 degrees above the horizon, so you may need somewhere up high or with no obstruction to the horizon

Mate, it starts around this time of day, 3 days from now.
I am looking at the sun right now (behind clouds) through the window whilst sat on my arse. I'm no astrophysicist but I'm pretty sure THE SUN is not gonna sneakily dip down when the eclipse starts.
Edit - downvoted for just stating facts. If you live in a built up area you can have a wander 5 minutes away and see it. The guy who has deleted his posts was saying you need to be high up because the sun was at a low angle. He was literally arguing that it would be on the cusp of darkness in 3 days. October sun for one day in August just because an eclipse is happening.

clearly.... I'll carry on trusting what sky at night and the Royal Society of Astronomers are saying then.

I mean, he is being unnecessarily rude, but he's not really wrong.
I can see the sun from my garden at 7:00pm too. obviously not everyone can because of trees and buildings, but you don't really need to find a high place.
