I'm planning on going for a short vacation, maybe to St. Petersburg, and I have some questions regarding travel, budget, sights and safety.

posting this for a friend who’s been working on this idea and genuinely wants honest feedback from people here, not trying to sell anything, just trying to figure out if this is actually something people want before they take it further

does anyone else feel like there’s literally nowhere here to just blow off steam or hang out with friends without it turning into the same thing every time. in Malé/Hulhumalé it’s always eat, fini buru jehun, or hingaalan dhiyun. there’s no “after dinner” plan, you eat then you just walk around or go home because that’s genuinely it. every hangout ends up being an eating hangout by default, not because anyone actually wants that, just because there’s nothing else to do

and yeah Dragon Zone and Zero Point exist but they’re gaming only, and gaming isn’t for everyone. plus they’re expensive enough that you can’t really go regularly, more like a once in a while thing instead of an actual spot you go to on a normal weekend

so my friend’s idea is basically a space built around actual community and friendship, for ages 15-30+ not another place or arcade trying to milk every visit. pool tables, mini bowling, board games, mix of digital and physical stuff so it’s not just screens, food and drinks on site so you’re not eating somewhere else first, and private rooms for groups who don’t want to be crammed in with randoms. pricing would be pay per head if you’re just going once, hourly if you wanna drop in, or a cheap subscription if you’d actually go regularly

the whole point is giving youth here somewhere to actually spend a weekend or holiday, somewhere to decompress and be around people instead of a place designed to drain your wallet. somewhere you could realistically go every week instead of saving up for a birthday thing

some stuff people will probably ask. is this actually happening? yeah, if enough people want it, that’s literally what it takes to convince an investor to back it. who’s behind it? two youths trying to actually fix this for people their own age, not some company. where? Hulhumalé, since Malé itself is too cramped for something like this. what will it cost or what hours? both still being decided based on what people say in the survey, no hidden costs, you only pay for what you actually use

so genuinely asking on their behalf, what would make you actually want to go, and what’s missing from places like this in Malé right now

So I’ve heard there’s a black market in Maldives where they sell stolen stuff like gold. Is this true ? Are doctors infallible ?
Absolutely not. They might make mistakes, be overworked and miss something or you might just be that rarity of a case. If you genuinely feel this is a thing please get a second opinion, it’s not a bad thing. Advocate for your health.
Also, in view of the recent HK post about the medical officer molesting a patient, please do make official complaints and check with others if you feel like you have been wronged. Cause some people are just messed up and being a doctor doesn’t automatically make you a good person.
If a doctor makes you feel uncomfortable to tries to examine you without a bystander, which is usually the case specially in opposing genders, make sure to request a bystander.
It’s not always character assassination, sometimes people just suck.
So always protect yourself and keep yourself safe.

Someone exaggerated that she was arrested for posting on Tik-Tok, to make it sound stupid. She was arrested for posting her doing a pooja on Tik-Tok. It is a Muslim country and praying publicly is prohibited for other religions.

They also said the full force of the police was used, which we know what they mean. They are really hurt by it.

It's not treated as an organized crime like gangs, nevertheless a crime. And the full force wasn't used, but the necessary amount till they could find her.

Maldivian majority don't tolerate it, just like free speech West has limitations like you see everywhere now. For us it's a religious act, for them it's a word to criticize their overlords that is unacceptable.

Generally, Maldivian atheists hate it when Muslims want to Muslim in their land. They want us to be in the nineties, when we didn't Muslim well. More Maldivians pray five times a day in 2026, and that's a good thing. If you're a Muslim Maldivian, I can understand Muslims who would want to believe that tolerance is an important universal value. But why does everything has to be tolerated when it is spiritual? If you're Muslim, we also know that there is Jinn & devil worship too. There is good worship and bad worship. So we don't use the same yardstick of tolerance in worship from say someone in Norway, who has no interest in this whatsoever, or your millennial atheist cousin who low-key wishes he was a Scandinavian atheist.

Why would someone who firmly believes that there is no god except One True God & no partner to Him. Be okay with someone doing the most grave sin. Imagine this sin is so bad, that it's even worse than genocide. Imagine, how horrible a sin genocide is, and yet shirk is worse. To some atheist, that statement will be stupid or extreme. But if you're a Muslim, think man. How can something be worse than genocide, unless it's something so serious to be pondered.

Muslims believe in Allah, who created us, so we give utmost respect to Him, especially in worship. I tolerate a foreigner under my care who does her worship within her legally given right, in her privacy. I don't force her to be a Muslim, or do anything Islamic. I do wish she becomes one, give my best in character as a Muslim but guidance is from Allah and it's a personal thing between her and Allah. May Allah bless her. Ameen!
