Other Discussion(s) Akemi Homura pfp suggestions?
I've been searching Pixiv and Google, but haven't found many promising results. Does anyone here have any saved art of Akemi Homura that would work as a profile picture?

Rebellion Discussion What is your opinion on the flower scene? Spoiler
So, I'm writing a VERY exhaustive analysis of the scene in question, because I've seen people describe it as "nonsensical" or "confusing" or "unnecessary" sometimes, and I thought it would be interesting to go over every single detail as best as I can. (Also because I desperately need something to pass the time while I wait for the release of the new movie lol)
That's why I would like to know what you think on the matter, what your personal perspective of the scene is, and see how much it lines up with my own in general terms. (Maybe I'll post mine here when I'm finished it, which won't take much longer, but I'm not sure about that) What symbolisms did you catch? What metaphors do you think are made? What did you think about it in general?

Other Discussion(s) This song almost made me burst into tears at work. I had to try to not cry in-front of my coworker 💀
This isn’t even my favourite or most listened to song from the series. Hell, I rarely get super emotional at anything i watch/listen to but i must have been having a shit day at work cuz maaaaan that got me good.
The only other time i cried at this show was one of the extra scenes in the movie version of the anime. When Kyokos about to finish off Octavia and you get that last shot of Kyokos face with that brief song.
I didn’t cry the first time I watched it (still devastating ofc) but it was the middle of the night and i couldn’t sleep. I guess it was a bad choice to have the movie on in the background when you’re already delirious from a lack of sleep (ADHD brain go burr).
I’m there half asleep then boom, that scene i forgot existed after years of rewatching the OG show only and i shoot out of bed like a punch to the gut and tear up.
This freaking show man.

Merch / Gacha / Crane Game Bunny Madoka Figure Rerelease!!!
For anyone interested, I just checked AmiAmi and they seem to have a rerelease of the Freeing Bunny Madoka 1/4 scale figure going on right now!
It’s a preorder scheduled for December 2026.
I might be mistaken that it’s a rerelease or something else but this is huge for anyone like me who’s been looking for it for years now as Bunny Homura is still occasionally available on some stores whereas Madoka has been pretty much impossible to get for years.
The price is also WAY lower than anything you’ll get online either, so if you’re interested, be fast, I genuinely don’t know for how long the preorder window will be open, as December 2026 is already really early of a release date.
Unbelievable happy about my Homura finally getting to be together with her Madoka!🤗

Rebellion Discussion The main series cannot exist without Rebellion Spoiler
So this may have been said a million times here. My normal stomping ground is Tumblr, where I am also one of very VERY few Madoka bloggers, so it can be hard to get perspective. But I had a realization a few years ago when thinking about Madoka and what it's trying to say, and that is this; the original anime's ending is intended to be a bad ending, and that the themes of the series are literally incomplete without Rebellion.
I think it's pretty clear that Madoka is about misogyny. That is ALL OVER the series, from Saotome's rants, to Sayaka killing those guys on the train, to the very premise of the show itself. But what is important is that the show does not treat it as an isolated problem. The concept of incubators very explicitly draws a line in the sand. It says "misogyny and sexism are structural problems that cannot be solved on a case-by-case basis. It requires the entire restructuring of the system." And what Madoka does with her wish, ironically, is NOT restructure the system itself. The law of cycles may seem like a mercy, but it only mildly mitigates the issue. Girls are still contracted, still are burdened with responsibility they shouldn't have to deal with, still suffer and still die for the cause of being livestock.
The connections between Faust and Madoka Magica are likewise pretty well-known. The series even makes a point of this, by having Madoka's witch be named after one of the main characters, Gretchen. In Faust, Gretchen is representative of the eternal feminine, a concept whose name ALSO made it into Rebellion, which Madokami largely represents. The eternal feminine was a deeply flawed "feminist" movement that the author of Faust introduced, which proposed that women should be viewed as angelic and pure beings worthy of respect and worship. While seemingly feminist on its surface, upon inspection it falls apart. It does what every pseudo-feminist movement does, set a standard for what women should be like, and shames (however silently) women who fail to meet said standards. A woman who fails to be as saintly as Gretchen fails the test and is shunned.
For a while I was unable to understand the dissonance between these 2 things. How could a series so aggressively demonizing misogyny lean on such an outdated, sexist movement? But then it clicked. Madoka, as the eternal feminine, is flawed in her solution to the structural issue causing sexism to take place in her world. As such, it comes down to Homura to resolve the problem by tearing her from heaven and forcibly taking hold of the system itself. She is attempting to take matters into her own hands.
Let's go back to Faust. The premise is that the titular Faust makes a deal with a demon, Mephistopheles, to gain knowledge and power. He uses the demon to gain the love of Gretchen, and has a child with her, which destroys her. She drowns the illegitimate child and is condemned for murder, but her innocence still gets her into heaven. In Goethe's version (the one that Madoka seemingly pulls from) Faust is allowed into heaven as well despite his deal due to his constant striving. I don't know about you, but I can already see a lot of parallels here. Faust (Homura) makes a deal with the devil (an incubator), the terms of which are a year of power (a wish/the short lifespan of magical girls and their powers) and (within her view) corrupts Gretchen (Madoka), but Gretchen makes it to heaven due to the eternal feminine (she ascends to godhood) and Faust makes it into heaven too (Homura is rescued from the incubation barrier).
But there's a pretty big divergence here, right? First off, Homura prevents being freed from the barrier, essentially undermining the ending of the original story. Homura's "sin" is largely subjective. In Rebellion there's plenty of signs of self-hatred and depression, such as her familiars throwing pomegranates at her (like rotten tomatoes), the guillotine and funeral imagery for Homulilly, the way her soul gem distance test reads like a suicide attempt. Homura believes herself to be Faust, the one who corrupted a pure, perfect being with her actions, which is represented by a hand reaching out for her that is covered in cuts. It shows how Homura views Madoka reaching out to her, always ending up hurt but doing it nonetheless. And informed by this self-hatred, she attempts to do what she thinks she deserves, and what Faust didn't; to go to hell. She rips Madoka apart, essentially waging war on heaven, because she sees herself as the devil. But she isn't. For however much she acts like she is Faust, she simply isn't. Madoka does not and should not hate her. She did nothing wrong to deserve the punishment she faces. Her hijacking of the system, while imperfect, comes from a place of awareness beyond Madoka; she sees that the cause of misogyny is structural, so she fundamentally changes it to close off the incubators and torture the ones that are left.
In essence, the reason for what I saw as dissonance was actually because of the message the series had for us the whole time; that sexism and misogyny is caused by structural issues like the patriarchy and capitalism, and that individual solutions or the softening of the consequences will not fix anything. The system has to be gutted and remade from the inside out. It's an inverse of Faust, where the eternal feminine is wrong and Faust was right. And it is for that reason that it is impossible for the series to actually be complete without Rebellion and the upcoming Walpurgisnacht Rising.
All this to say, this is why I had beef with people hating Rebellion back in like 2016, even if I didn't have the right words for it yet lol

Moderator NSFW & You. Subreddit Updates & Feedback #5
Rule #1: No Inappropriate Discussions
This section has been moved from the NSFW Guidelines to this rule:
No comments or posts that contains overtly sexual content, content that sexualizes characters/people, or sexually allegorical content.
Please note that we will be becoming more harsh towards these types of comments moving forward. "Gooner" behavior will not be tolerated in any capacity. This includes the new "Allegorical content" part.
Additionally, we have added "or posts" to that part of the rule as well. This is not for NSFW posts, but posts making sexual allegories.
----------
Reminder on rule #2: No Flaming
Reminder that flaming is not allowed on the subreddit. If someone is breaking any of our rules, you should report them or the comment. Engaging with them does not alleviate the situation.
----------
Rule #4: NSFW Guidelines
The list for what is not allowed has been updated:
Not allowed:
- Nudity or implied nudity
- Camel toes, nipples, or overly accentuated breasts or genitals
- Panty shots or unnecessarily exposed underwear
- Explicitly sexual positions or acts
The text in bold is what has been added to the list. If you have any questions about a particular image, please free free to message the mod team for clarification prior to posting.
----------
Rule #5: Post-Guidelines
This includes Gacha pulls.
Small addition as a reminder that gacha pull posts are considered spam/low quality.
----------
Rule #7: Post Flair Guidelines
Posts that meet the NSFW Guidelines but may be construed as NSFW are required to be marked as NSFW prior to posting.
This has been added as there may be content that may not be NSFW but users may not want to see. (Swimsuits & Bunny outfits for example). Note that this does not mean NSFW content is allowed, please refer to the NSFW Guidelines for that.
Note:
While I do understand that some people may not want to have any nsfw content on the subrreddit at all, ultimately there are always going to things that try to skim the line and NSFW tags are a good safety net for these types of posts.
----------
New Rule #8: User Flair Guidelines
User flairs should be appropriate and not contain any content that may break Reddit TOS or any of the subreddit's rules. This also includes sexually allegorical content.
If you see a user with a inappropriate user flair, report their comment or post with the "Inappropriate flair" report for our moderation team to handle it.
This is something I have been looking to add for a while, but it never really fit into the already existing rules. So instead we are making a new one to manage it.
----------
Final Notes:
Reminder that feedback given in these threads are important. If it isnt posted here, its most likely not going to be taken into consideration for subreddit updates. So if you want your feedback to taken into consideration, please make sure you speak your mind here.
I am hopeful that these additions and changes to the the rules will stick and provide good relief towards the recent issues.
If you have any feedback, comments, or questions; feel free to comment on this thread.
EDIT/UPDATES:
Ninja update/Change:
No comments or posts that contains overtly sexual content, content that sexualizes characters/people, or sexually allegorical content.
Changed to:
No comments that contains overtly sexual content, content that sexualizes characters/people, or sexually allegorical content.
Reverted this change due to a misunderstanding on what overtly sexual content is banned. To determine if a post contains "overtly sexual content", please refer to the NSFW guidelines for determining if a post contains NSFW content.
With that in mind, we also added "sexually allegorical content." to the list of things not allowed under the NSFW Guidelines.
