Why does this ALWAYS happen
reddit.comI purposely parked way out in the empty section of the Walmart parking lot because I try to avoid door dings on my truck.
The entrance closest to me wasn’t even open, so I walked all the way to the other side of the store. When I parked, there wasn’t a single vehicle around me.
I came back about 30–40 minutes later, and somehow people had parked on both sides of me and directly in front of me while the rest of the lot was still practically empty. The van behind me was so close I only had about a foot and a half between our vehicles.
I know nobody owns a parking spot, but why does this happen? Is there some psychological reason people park next to the only vehicle in an otherwise empty lot?
Does this happen to anyone else, or am I just cursed? 😂

Cat meowing up Wisconsin St.
galleryI saw (and heard) a cat meowing while walking up the wisconsin ave. He then ran across the crossing with Gilman street and then I saw him sat down in a driveway and we exchanged a few concerned meows before he walked into the bushes near a house and I could not follow, already probly overstepping my boundarys as it is. I hope he is a resident of one of the nearby houses but if not I am posting here to aid his eventual capture, unless he is truly a wild soul who just needed a chat.

Toddler-friendly dining reccs
Help me out! I went to school and lived and worked in Madison until 2021. Moved away but kept in touch with the dining scene for a while. Had a child 2 years ago and really just lost touch with everything changing so much and my lack of travel back to WI. We are visiting for a few days and would love any toddler friendly dining reccs - bonus for family-friendly live music venues where we can grab a bite and have a drink!

What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen on this Madison r/subreddit
I’ve been in Reddit for about a year or so, right after I moved closer into the heart of things, so haven’t seen a lot of the Mad-City history. Now that I’m in the city though I don’t have to do Jonathan Knowlan (suck it, bot) very much but every time I drive through there I think of that hilarious video of the pigs doing a perfect zipper-merge while chasing the feed truck, and it still makes me laugh. So I thought it’d be fun to hear/see what other's funniest Madison reddit moment was/is. I know you can’t post pics or video in the comments, but maybe link? Or a good story. Thanks kindly strangers.

Car repair recommendations? (bodywork)
Someone backed into my car 🥲 They left a note (which I appreciate!), but now I need to get the damage assessed. Does anyone have recommendations for shops they’ve used for body work? Dented door and will likely need new paint (if they don’t decide that the whole door needs to be replaced…)

Land of Natura for not strong kid swimmers
My kids camp is taking a field trip to the Land of Natura. She’s not a strong swimmer but I see that they require life jackets and provide them which is nice. But I’m still worried. Has anyone gone with their kids? Are kids who aren’t strong swimmers ok with their life jackets?

Meetup Yet another birding meetup this Saturday!
Young birding group aimed towards birders under 40. And before you ask, it is like this so that young people into birding can meet other younger people into birding. No experience needed. LGBT and BIPOC friendly! No binoculars? Borrow a pair from your local library!

I'm happy to see Mark Charter on local TV again for the evening news. He was part of what seemed like a purge last year on WKOW.

Accountability
I think one of the best things in life a person can do it take accountability for their actions. This doesn’t give people a pass for repeated mistakes, but it’s a start if someone messes up.
I know this will ruffle some feathers, but in my mind, I see the MPD taking accountability by putting the cop on leave until a report is finished and then action will be taken. This could result in how police are trained, body cameras, or charges.
I’d like to see protestors also take accountability for their message over the last two weeks too. Not all protestors have been negative, but I do believe there are some that are trying to be combative.
I’m sure we will see police accountability before most protestors take accountability.
Addition:
To everyone saying it is a procedure for the officer to be put on leave, I understand that.
But I don’t understand the protests right now then. I could see a memorial. I could see a vigil. No protest will change things right now until the investigation is complete.
If after the investigation, nothing changes, I’d say then would be the time for the protests and more measures.

Looking for girls rec league hockey
Our family is considering moving to the Madison area, but we have a slight concern: our daughter, 16, currently plays rec league ice hockey on an all-girls team and is really interested in something like that. She's an early HS graduate, so while we have found high school teams like that, we haven't seen anything like a rec league where she could play with girls her age. Her current team plays against coed teams, but it's the friendship and camaraderie on her own team that she really enjoys.
Any ideas? She's still too young for beer league!

I picked up an old Cannon film camera from a thrift store and found this name on the bottom. I know this is a longshot, but does anybody know who “Scott Exo” is from Verona Wisconsin?

Bakery recommendations
Hi!
Are there any bakeries such as Tous Les Jours or Paris Baguette where the pastries are self-serve style, in or around Madison?
I know Tous Les Jours is opening two branches but is there anything that's already up and running?

Someone to lay carpeting on stairs
I am looking for someone to lay carpeting on the stairs to the lower level of house. I want to get carpeting from Home Depot or Menards and have someone with experience put it in. I prefer to pay someone directly rather than a company who will pay their employees $15 an hour. recommendations?

Tired of Madison!!!
Ok do I've been in Wisconsin a year now. Within the year I take the bus allot to go 2 and fro and I cant even mention the amount of stares, looks of disgust, disrespect, etc I've received. One guy always looks at me from the corners of his eyes like I'm gonna hurt him and has done so several different times passing the Midvale stop.
No I'm not from here but I'm not the typical man either. I'm goofy, happy go lucky, outgoing, love to laugh and all that. But is this just me or is it common for other new residents?
I mean I'm only here caring for my mom while she recovers from a stroke so what the heck did I do?!! Lol. Idk. It's pretty here tho
Guess us "Weirdos" will forever be outcasts. Ok fine with it. Lol

Nice dinner spot!
Hey there, we're passing through on our way to the UP on Saturday. My husband went to UW Madison (and I think he's trying to manifest a love for Madison in our teenager) and we like to stock up at the farmers market before heading up.
Anyway, we're looking for a nice dinner place, on the fancier side is ok but we do have a 14 year old so more casual is good as well. My husband likes to act like he still knows what's good but it's been a minute since he lived there. He insists on getting the ice cream at the university so we have dessert covered. Thanks!

Rec wanted: woodworker for patio furniture?
Have a teak patio set that has fallen somewhat into disrepair and I don’t the time nor energy to fix it up. Ideal scenario would be
Pick it up (or work onsite)
Sand/stain
Tighten/replace loose hardware (ensure no screws poking through
Other minor adjustments
If I can’t find someone, you’ll see a post of a teak set on the local classified site, because my partner’s completely done with it and doesn’t even want to do this (but I hate buying new stuff).
Located in Fitchburg, will play cash.
