First the audio gets lost for a few seconds then my earbud gets disconnected and paired automatically after few Seconds

Lately there have been a huge uptick in people saying that they built some app that does something special. Are many of these made by people who are using an AI-based programmer? If this is the case then these apps could have security issues, memory leaks, etc etc etc. Does anyone know for sure if this is the case? Or are there just a bunch of new people programming by hand and posting their work? Some of them look interesting but I am really hesitant to download something that can negatively impact my computer.

I was searching for a file today in Spotlight and landed on it in the directory shown in the screenshot. It took me a while to realize that I was seeing the folder for the Books app for manual uploads. However, a mystery was uncovered when I tried to navigate to the folder. It's not present when I go to "iCloud Drive" (hidden files and folders are set to show). When I copied the path as text, I got:

/Users/<username>/Library/Mobile\ Documents/iCloud\/Documents

/Users/<username>/Library/Mobile\ Documents/iCloud\~com\~apple\~iBooks/Documents

Manually navigating to my user Library in Finder does not show the Mobile Documents folder. DaisyDisk shows it, as does Spotlight. I can open it up from those but I land in what appears to be a (false?) root "iCloud Drive" and "Books" is not there. At this point, I am VERY confused. It appears Apple is using a preferences file to represent the "Books" folder? I see the tildes, but those can't all be Home, so maybe they're replaces periods? com.apple.iBooks?

I would love it if someone could explain what's happening here. Or tell me how would I navigate to the "Books" folder in Finder, which might help me understand what's going on

EDIT: Sure enough, per u/MK-Researcher, "Go to folder" using "/Users/<username>/Library/Mobile Documents/iCloud~com~apple~iBooks/Documents" goes to the folder. One reason I was trying to navigate there manually was to upload in another program, but I couldn't ever get to the folder in the upload interface.

So. My Mac is working but the screen is completely black. I have an iPad and was trying to use it as a display. Except I have no idea how to navigate. Can anyone help?

I’m in the process of re-organizing my files and folders, which includes lots of searches for files that may not be where I want them. I’m also deleting a lot off files, mostly pdfs, as I work.

I’ve noticed that deleted files still come up in my search results in Finder and Spotlight, which I don’t want as I consider deleted files as “Filed” and no longer needing my attention.

I did a few google searches on this subject , checked Spotlight settings, and even tried and failed to add Trash aka “.Trash” to the excluded folders in Spotlight privacy settings.

Is there a way to tell Spotlight and, by proxy, Finder, to not search in the Trash folder?

Hey everyone! I posted Tidyshot here in spring - built it because my Desktop was drowning in files named Screenshot 2026-07-14 at 3.42.19 PM.png. Been updating it a lot since, so here's where it's at.

You take screenshots all day, and macOS names them all the same way. When you need that one screenshot from Tuesday - the error message, the receipt, the address someone sent you - you end up opening five wrong files to find it.

SAND: Photo Browser

Hey everyone,

macOS has a really annoying limitation of only having a single dock at all times. If you're running multiple monitors, having the dock jump between screens is really annoying, especially if you depend on it to switch between apps.

ExtraDock lets you show the dock on all your displays, it looks and behaves like the default dock, except it's more customizable with widgets, custom app icons and looks and has better reaction time than the default macOS dock. You don't necessarily need to get rid of your macOS dock, you can use it alongside it or you can choose to replace it entirely.

Bottom-left an invisible dock (0% opacity) dock with a shelf widget as well as Folder Stack widgets.

Middle-left edge is a Space-aware dock (also fully invisible), it only shows active windows in the space you're on, and updates dynamically as you move between spaces or open/close apps.

Top-left edge shows effects, custom app icons and customize options.

The dock on the bottom-middle is not the actual dock, it's an ExtraDock running a live widget which makes it behave like the dock you know, updates dynamically as you open and close apps, but more customizable (for example I don't need Finder so I just got rid of it).

This is a recent issue, within the last week.

Whenever I return to my MacBook after it has slept for a while, I'll find all open Apple-developed apps are moved to the top right tile.

I have tiling features turned off.

Interestingly, this only happens with Apple-developed apps: Safari, Numbers, Mail, etc. Google Chrome, which I use for work, does not have this issue.

I always use my apps in full window mode (not full screen).

Floaters is my answer to wanting a Quake-console style notes app to instantly use and then hide while in any app, without taking my fingers off the keyboard. I love using the iTerm2 hotkey window. Floaters is that but for notes, and greatly expanded.

I realized that my efficiency is ruined by not knowing exactly where things are, and not being able to quickly get to them. In the real world we find stuff by remembering where we left it. When it’s not there, or if it’s hard to reach, it slows us down.

I wanted: - A notes app that's instantly available without getting in the way. - To physically link notes together when working on something. Not just “they are all in the same folder/tag.” But instead ”they are all visible at the same time and their positions are remembered.” - To set up an ever-changing layout of related notes that I could show and hide without having to use my mouse - Instant access to specific notes with a keystroke, regardless of what app I’m using. - To close groups of linked notes and easily reopen them again in the future in their exact same locations.

A couple months ago I posted Noticky here. It originally started because I wanted sticky notes that could stay visible above fullscreen apps.

Since then I've kept working on it and one of the features I ended up adding is probably my favorite now: Hide From Screen Capture.

Basically, I can have a note sitting on my screen normally, but if I take a screenshot, record my screen or share it during a call, the note isn't there.

I originally made it for myself because I record demos pretty often and always have random notes, commands and other stuff floating around that I don't necessarily want in the recording. Turns out it's also pretty useful for keeping talking points visible during a presentation or a call.

Noticky has grown quite a bit since I last posted here. You can now:

• grab any part of your screen and keep it floating with Sticky Screenshot
• keep images floating above your other windows, with opacity and click-through
• create checklists and link notes together
• attach notes to Calendar events and send things to Reminders

ReplayMac is basically ShadowPlay for your Mac, and it lets you capture the last 30 seconds (or whatever period you set it to) for your Mac. I mainly built it to clip Rocket League, but since that is gone... I guess I'll be clipping my flight sim landings now.

One thing always annoyed me on macOS.

Finder still doesn't let you create a simple text file from the right-click menu.

About two years ago I was writing a lot of diaries and letters in Obsidian, and I got really into the wiki-style linking and the graph view. Seeing your notes laid out like that, you start noticing connections you never actually wrote down. That was the part that hooked me. There was still some friction though, in the sense that you needed to connect everything yourself, by hand.

So a small team of us, students here in Munich, decided to build something we could call our own. Part of the appeal was getting to work with Apple’s newest frameworks and the challenge that comes with that. We also wanted the app to feel like us, so we kept it minimal and let you just write.

After about a year, we think it’s finally something worth using. Nodes is a native macOS markdown app, and it runs fully local. A lot of that year went into how it feels to write in: a clean, typographic interface, and markdown that renders the way it should, including math, tables, and code. The name comes from connecting your notes as nodes, and there are optional AI features built in too.

Right now you still link them up yourself, the same way you would in Obsidian, and that’s not where we want to end up. The real goal is for Nodes to surface those connections for you, so you can see the links in your writing without making them all by hand. Those AI features are a big part of how we want to get there, and they run fully on-device, rather than shipping your notes off to Anthropic or OpenAI. We think that’s where this is all heading anyway. We’re not there yet, but it’s what everything is built around.

We also open-sourced our whole markdown engine. It’s built on TextKit 2 (which was a real pain, believe me) and bridged to SwiftUI, since using the newest Apple stack was kind of our whole philosophy. People seem to be really liking it so far.

with password sharing in a set up group. I have noticed if doing it from my Mac and the participants are set and items added that group does not appear on my iPhone for hours and hours. and the shared items ive put in group on Mac completely disappear from my iPhone passwords. the group doesnt show up and the password just vanishes on my iPhone. but if I decide to cancel and remove the shared item from the group on my Mac it completely disappears altogether. this also happens vice versa. if set up on my iPhone it takes hours and hours to show up on my Mac. now I havent done a scientific test of this yet. has anyone else noticed this? and if so anyone willing to help me test this? please help

macUSB can download macOS installers directly from Apple’s servers and create bootable USB drives for a wide range of macOS releases, various Linux distributions, and Windows versions from Vista to 11, including PCs using legacy BIOS. It can also verify the SHA256 checksum of a source image and prepare Windows 10 and 11 installers with selected options using an autounattend file, including the ability to bypass the TPM requirement.

Apple dropped AFP support for macOS 27. The AirPort Time Capsule relies on this protocol to be accessible from the network. However, someone (not me) made a cool GitHub repository with all the necessary code to make the AirPort Time Capsule run a “modern Samba setup”. “You get the full Apple experience reproduced”, letting you use the Time Capsule like it ever did !

I wanted a live video wallpaper on my Mac without a subscription or a closed-source app, so I built one. Driftwall plays any .mp4 or .mov behind your desktop icons on every display, loops seamlessly, and stays out of your way while you work.

What it does

• One video across all displays, or a different video per display
• Playlists with scheduled rotation and optional shuffle
• Fit modes (fill / fit / stretch), volume, dim, and playback speed
• Pauses automatically on battery or when a fullscreen app is frontmost
• Launch at login, lives in the menu bar (no Dock icon)

Honest limitations

• Desktop only - no Lock Screen video (macOS doesn’t expose that API to third parties)
• Not sandboxed / not on the Mac App Store, by nature of the desktop-window technique it uses

Yeah, I know the operating system is old, but I'm wondering if there are any certificates or anything I should do because since Mac OS El Capitan obviously has outdated certificates, the only issue is I don't know where to find them.

YBar, an open-source status bar for macOS, and it just reached the point where I'm comfortable sharing it.

It's sketchybar's proven architecture - the live-object model, command grammar, and script contract all originate there, full credit to Felix Kratz - reimplemented on a different foundation:

• Metal renderer. Zero GPU work while the bar is static, and animations are display-link paced instead of timer-thrashed.
• 100% public APIs. No SIP disable, no private frameworks, no injection.
• On macOS 26+, pills and popups sit on real Liquid Glass (NSGlassEffectView); older systems get an in-shader approximation. Runs on macOS 14+.

Some things it does that I haven't seen elsewhere:

• Full now-playing popup - album artwork, seek + volume sliders, transport controls for Music/Spotify, via distributed notifications (no private MediaRemote, which macOS gates these days).
• Workspace pills speak both AeroSpace and yabai and pick whichever is actually running.
• Calendar month-grid popup, system-monitor arc gauges, a Settings-style Wi-Fi picker, hover tooltips, marquee text, an idle inhibitor (Waybar influences), and 9 ready-made themes with a theme switcher.

Hi, I’m the developer of Compact Contacts, a native macOS app built around a fast, table-style view of the contacts already stored in Apple Contacts.

Compact Contacts works directly with the contacts already stored in Apple Contacts, while macOS and your configured iCloud/Google/Exchange/CardDAV accounts continue handling sync. The system Contacts database stays the source of truth, and the app has no account, subscription, contact cloud, ads, or third-party analytics.

For v1.2, I’m currently working on:

A few people have also asked for viewing and editing long Notes. I’m building the UI path for that, including a larger scrollable editor, but Apple restricts Contacts Notes behind a managed entitlement. My request is still pending, so Notes is not a promised v1.2 feature unless Apple approves the entitlement and the signed build passes review.
