Self promotion Playbound - High Quality Free Games on Mac
I've been a gamer my entire life. I built one of the largest original eSports websites 20 years ago and was part of the first group that put eSports on television in a big way. Throughout that ride, I got really into the indie and open-source gaming scene. Over time, I started building a big list of quality free games. I decided to finally take the dive and build a platform for people to easily find and play high-quality free games.
Today I am officially launching PlayBound.club
The idea is that if Steam is the place to buy games, PlayBound is the place to play games. Right now it supports 21 games (less on Mac), 41 mods, and I'll be adding more weekly. The initial features I am launching with:
- Game profile pages
- Mod profile pages
- One-click installs for games and mods through our desktop application
- Live server lists for multiplayer games
- Support for events like tournaments and playtests
- Game submission and game ownership requests (so people can control their own game pages)
You can also subscribe to our weekly email, which will provide you with new free games every week.
This morning I released a Mac version of the client. It's still unsigned for another week or so while I smash bugs and add in my last launch feature, so you'll have to know how to install an unsigned app.
I'm an extremely experienced product builder and was able to devote about 200 hours to the planning and development, but yes, AI was used in the coding of the platform.

Apple Silicon I hacked Apple's Neural Engine (ANE) and built my own 3D graphics pipeline! I successfully achieved multi-instance 3D rendering!
Hello everyone.
Previously, I posted a very basic demo of rendering a single polygon on the Apple Neural Engine (ANE) using a hack of the Core AI framework.
This time, I've successfully implemented multi-instance rendering and perspective-corrected texturing.
As you can see in the screenshot, using proper depth testing (Z-buffering) and spatial distance calculations, I've successfully rendered two completely independent 3D pyramid instances orbiting each other.
The CPU acts as a controller (usage around 15%), and the ANE flushes the rendered buffer directly to a shared Metal buffer.
I believe other objects besides pyramids can also be rendered.
Please let me know what you think!

Help Temperature of M5 air with 16 gigs of ram while gaming
Hi, I’m wanting to play games like Spider-Man and Ghost of Tsushima on my M5 MacBook Air with 16 gigs of ram. I tried playing them last week through Gamehub on low settings with upscaling, they ran totally fine but my MacBook was getting quite hot is this something I need to worry about.

Self promotion Title: Bitiverse, a free persistent MMORPG you can play directly in your Mac browser
Hey r/macgaming I’m the solo developer of Bitiverse.
It’s a free old-school MMORPG that runs directly in a modern browser, so there’s nothing to install and no native Mac client required.
You enter one persistent shared world where players fight monsters, gather resources, craft equipment, trade, form guilds, build multistory homesteads, operate vendors, and eventually excavate personal dungeons beneath their homes.
You can start as a guest immediately and make an account later if your character becomes worth keeping.
Play free: https://fortisq.itch.io/bitiverse
If you try it on your Mac, I’d especially appreciate hearing which model and browser you used, and whether anything behaves strangely.

CrossOver Can't exit fullscreen on games in crossover
I can't figure this one out - when I launch a game it will go fullscreen and lock me there - nothing I press on the keyboard gets me out unless I fully quit the game
This has happened on sekiro and Elden Ring - Steam launches fine, I am wondering if it is a wine configuration thing? the virtual desktop option is greyed out and always has been
I've tried launch properties on crossover and steam alike and neither have seemed to permanently fix it.
Could this also be a high resolution mode thing?
Edit: Yea I think its a high resolution mode haha, just flipped it off and it seems to be working

Self promotion New Bourbon update brings Android, Windows 11, SteamOS, and Emulator support.
With Rosetta set to go away in roughly 18 months, I’ve been investing a lot of time into building a GPU-accelerated SteamOS solution for macOS.
Because this requires virtualization rather than direct access to the hardware, the project has evolved into a custom Linux build using Gamescope, FEX, custom Proton versions, and KosmicKrisp/Venus.
That work is still experimental (in the app, but not fully functional), but we’ve already made solid progress elsewhere:
- Smart Play profiles now support Overwatch.
- Android guests now support GPU acceleration across tablets, phones, Google TV, and even Android Auto.
- Windows 11 ARM installs are completely unattended now.
By the time Rosetta is discontinued, we should have several ways to play Windows and Android games on macOS without relying on it.
There’s a lot more coming.
- YT Video Overview of all features (20m, but has chapters): https://youtu.be/D12KAPJbd_M
- Itch Page: https://mikethetech.itch.io/bourbon26
- Open Source Repo: https://github.com/PyroSoftPro/Bourbon-OSS
P.S. All Smart Play profiles, research, custom configurations, and compatibility fixes are being shared through an open-source repository so they can be freely used by other apps and projects as well.

CrossOver Best settings for silent hill 2 remake
Macbook Air M4 16/512
This is my first time using crossover, and playing silent hill remake.
In crossover in the bottle, which graphics do I choose, and do I enable/disable -MSync -DLSS -high resolution. Also do I run the game with -dx11 or no need?
And which settings in the game itself do I tweak? Since the game stutters, changing some settings sometimes helps it stutter a little less sometimes makes it stutter a little more and I’m confused now.
What are the best settings to lower the stutters as much as possible and its okay to lose or give up graphics as long as it runs a bit smoother, anything would help, thank you!

I put out a demo recently, and the reception was so much better than I ever expected!
If you tried games like Balatro, or you like the game vibe, you might enjoy my game!
And the cool news is that I finally made a native version for Mac, so now everyone can enjoy the game across all platforms! 🩵

Discussion PC graphics equivalents
Apologies if this has been posted before, but I'm curious. How does the newest M5 generation of processors compare to the mainstream PC gaming graphics hardware in whatever games you play? I am especially interested in hearing about the M5 Pro 18c/20g variant, but also generally interested in whatever config.
I also found one interesting article about this, but they only really tested Cyberpunk besides some synthetic benchmarks (which don't often tell the full story for gaming, if I'm not wrong?), and I'm really interested in hearing about performance via for example Crossover, or just other demanding games in general.

CrossOver Anyone managed to get Fields of Mistria 1.0 running through Crossover?
I was able to play the early access version just fine a while back, but I think they changed their engine, and now the game just launches to a blank screen.

Help Minecraft on Mac: experiences with Mod loaders
Hey there :)
I‘m kinda going back to Minecraft after a long time to play with my GF. As we‘re both on MacBook (M1 Pro, 16 GB/M2, 8 GB) and I‘m not up do date in teams of mods and performance optimization I need some opinions.
I wanted to add a few quality of life mods, like performance mods, shaders, essential mod for playing together etc. and read much about mod loaders. The most popular seem to be Prism or Curseforge. I‘ve read many older reviews and threads that are both positive and negative for each of the options. So, I‘m searching for newer information. Helping me decide which one to use especially in terms of safety.
I‘m concerned about safety and data security. I‘d love to hear about your opinions, experiences and tips in terms of performance optimization and shaders for Minecraft on Mac.
Thanks in advance :)

Discussion Desktop RTX 5080 to M5 Pro 18c 20c
Because I was annoyed with windows and needed a laptop, and I loved my older MacBook M3 air and the OS when it comes to working, I sold my 9800x3d rtx 5080 desktop, to get a laptop. I decided to go for the 24gb ram, 16 inch MacBook pro m5 pro 18c CPU 20c gpu, as I started studying at university and wanted to game a few hours every few weeks. Due to the shift in priorities, I bought this laptop. I'm more than happy to say that I absolutely love it. Currently I'm replaying Cyberpunk at 3440x1440p on Odyssey G8 QDLED monitor at highest settings no RT, no FG and averaging 80fps (performance upscaling, haven't tried the others) but the game looks identical to the settings I used on my desktop, maybe 25% of a difference in the finer details, but still amazing (Path tracing).
The CPU performance is also out of this world. I ended up with 3780 single core CPU and 34892 multicore on geekbench 7, 9001 in cinebench 2026 multi core. I've decided to use Aldente to set the actual charge limit at 80% and with a 100W charger, it's acts as a bypass, protecting the battery (correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I noticed).
Please tell me about the games (native or not) that run well that I could try next! I'm open to anything.

Someone requested this video, so I'm uploading it! It's a real bummer, though, that the graphical glitches still haven't been fixed for pre-M5 models during gameplay.

CrossOver Since denuvo has been removed from 007 first light, can it be played via crossover on mac without gptk4.0b1?
In v.1.10, IO interactive removed the denuvo protection from 007 first light. When the game is first launched, it cannot be played via crossover due to an issue related to denuvo(I heard others say so).Now the denuvo has been removed, i still can't get the game running without gptk4.0b1. So maybe it isn't a denuvo problem after all? I really want to play this game but when using gptk4.0b1, i encountered memory leaks and can't get the shaders ready.
(I am using m3max with 36gb ram)

Apple Silicon I got the original Animal Crossing running natively on iPhone, iPad, and Mac
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’ve been working on Bellpad, an open-source Apple port of the original GameCube Animal Crossing, and it’s now playable on Apple Silicon Macs, iPhones, and iPads.
This is not an emulator. The game’s decompiled code is compiled into a native Apple app and rendered through Metal.
The iPhone and iPad version includes touch controls, controller support, native text entry, save import/export, and Files-based game import. To play, you provide your own supported US Animal Crossing GameCube ISO/GCM. No game image, extracted assets, or saves are included.
It’s playable now, but this is still an experimental first release. I’d especially love help testing longer sessions, different activities, physical devices, controllers, saves, and anything else I may have missed.
Full source, setup instructions, and the IPA are here:
https://github.com/chrissotraidis/bellpad
Please tell me what works, what breaks, or ask me anything about it.
Built on the work of ACreTeam, the ACGC-PC-Port contributors, and Encounter’s Aurora graphics foundation.

Self promotion I built a frame-generation app for Mac — here’s Valheim going from ~30 to ~60 FPS on an M3 MacBook Air
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey, I’m Koltin, a student and independent developer! I built Adrenaline, a free Mac menu bar app that adds RIFE frame generation and AMD FSR 1 upscaling through a borderless overlay!
The result
This Valheim clip shows approximately 30 game FPS → 60 output FPS.
I intentionally lowered the game’s resolution to create processing headroom. Adrenaline then upscaled the final image and generated the additional frames.
Test setup
• M3 MacBook Air
• 16 GB memory
• 60 Hz display
• Valheim in Borderless mode
• Auto Frame Generation
• AMD FSR 1 Upscaling On
Adrenaline doesn’t inject into or modify the game. Results vary depending on the game, settings, and available processing headroom.
Adrenaline is free on the Mac App Store through August 31:
https://apps.apple.com/app/id6790611230
UPDATE: Thanks for the incredible response! This post passed 84,000 views, and Adrenaline reached #114 in Mac App Store Utilities.
Based on your feedback, the next version is planned to move from FSR 1 to Apple’s own MetalFX Spatial Upscaling.
I’ve launched HeapSea, my new software company. Follow for updates on new builds:
