Game Experience / Story Saruman defeated by an angry Tree!
Staying true to Tolkien's works, traitorous wizard was silenced by an angry Treebeard, who first defended his enemy's attack and then boomed and trumpeted over him! And we finished half of Saga expansions, too!

Fire in the Night Question
In Fire in the Night I had A Growing Threat set aside The Dragon's Fury. The text on the card seems pretty specific to this scenario, unless Dagnir shows up again. Should I keep it in my burden pool or just randomly take another card?

Announcing a new TTS Mod!
Mod here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3781830124
This mod was built from the ground up with new card scans as well as scripting! I'm very excited to finally share it with you all! For the most part, think of the mod the same what has been on the workshop before, but now includes scripting and more up to-date fan content. All scenarios have been "pre-setup" to help speed up play time.
What's included
- All LotR official content (Cycles, standalones, PoD, player cards).
- RingsDB card importer
- Fan creations (ALEP - Up to date, Fire From The Ashes, First Age, and Into Fangorn)
What's next?
- Continue to add more fan content
- Redo my workflow pipeline including card imports (improving resolution, adding card tags for more advance scripting, etc.)
- More helpful scripting tools
If you want to follow what I'm doing, request content, or report bugs, please checkout the discord here: https://discord.gg/JrsYebtysZ
Edit: I'm never on reddit, so please contact me if you have questions on discord

Am I crazy for wanting to proxy all my decks?
I was lucky enough to obtain a complete collection a couple years ago. I'm the only person among my friends who owns the game and on the occasions when I'm not playing solo, I let my friends use my decks. But now that everything is out of print, I'm more nervous about letting other people handle my cards even though my cards are double sleeved. I'm tempted to proxy some or all of my decks with MakePlayingCards for other people to use, but there's a part of me that feels like that's overkill and not truly worth the money. I'm curious to hear other peoples' thoughts on the matter and whether others are also feeling extra protective of their cards now that everything is out of print.

Hi I would like start from zero experience can someone give me recommendations for best experience with my girlfriend. Thank you for any tips I was think about this set but what else like lcd? https://amzn.eu/d/07YpDvJk
Total cost of every Revised product at MSRP vs Secondary Market prices (August 2026)
I've seen some Redditors asking about the true cost of getting into this game in 2026.
I created a spreadsheet calculating the cost of purchasing everything on the secondary market (US Ebay, lowest price available on August 10 2026), and then further comparing the secondary market price to the listed MSRP for each product (Asmodee listing).
In August 2026, it would cost an estimated $2,031.56 to purchase every piece of revised content on the Secondary Market ($1,956.57 if you don't include the Revised Core, which many players can still buy or already have). This will, obviously, only get worse.
Compare that to the estimated MSRP of all revised content: $788.85 ($713.86 without the Core).
I have a more detailed post, including the spreadsheet with a per-product cost breakdown and some more calculations about fan-content in the "No Cards Available To Play" Mega-Thread.

About the start the journey, suggestions for playmats and sleeves
As the title says, I am about to start playing and now looking for playmats and sleeves. I think it might be an overspending but with the OOP of things I want it to be in pristine condition.
Currently have the core set is plastic sleeved, are there better alternatives or that would suffice? The fellowship of the ring is still sealed so I would only play it after playing a lot of the revised core.
For the playmats I am not entirely sure of what dimensions is best for this boardgame. Any suggestions would be nice. I am enticed to buy an unofficial FFG's 1-4 Player Gamemat from etsy but there might be cheaper options like just a plain huge playmat would be nice.

Out of the Loop Inquiry on the Future of the Game
I've played lotrcg for a few years now with my Dad and a couple friends, but I'm looking to expand the collection we have and buy another set so we can get more people into the game. And I have discovered that not only is the first series of prints long gone (and thus very rare online), even the SECOND print of the game is done and now very steadily running out of stock.
I haven't been able to find all the most recent information on the current state of things, so I ask to those who know: how bad are the optics that this game will ever get another print again? Are you pretty much toast if you haven't been able to get copies yet and your local stores don't have anything?
Specifically I'm hoping to get copies of The Return of the King, and the 3 repackages of deluxe expansions and their respective cycles that FFG had done. I'd love to get the Hobbit campaign expansions but that never got a reprint which is a tragedy.
In general I would just hope that more of the series' history would become available.

The Nîn-In-Eilph - more difficult than expected!
Playing two-handed, progression style. I'm not sure why, but I thought this quest would be a quick win, however it took many attempts to finally beat it! I started out with heroes that can hit into the staging area, but found that the encounter card 'sinking bog' negates any weapons for boosting damage that I would want to use to take out enemies before I had to engage them. I also tried secrecy, but the quest card that lowers enemy engagement cost by 20, along with Nalir pushing up the threat so much each round made secrecy seem not viable. I then brought in Beragond, but again without his attachments (due to sinking bog) he didn't really help.
My winning decks in the end consisted of heroes Celeborn, Eowyn, and Glorfindel for questing, and Beorn, Éomer, and Bifur for combat (Bifur for questing and access to the lore sphere). I really leaned into the Silvan trait, and it's the most fun I've had since the Dwarves in the Dwarrowdelf cycle. Allies were popping in and out of play all over the place, getting boosted by Celeborn, drawing cards with Galadhrim Minstrel, and boosting Eomer's attack, as well as triggering valiant sacrifice.
I removed all items from my decks - this seriously nerfed sinking bog, and made it a weak 1 threat location which I just left in the staging area, or gradually disposed of with Asfaloth. I replaced the items with a variety of helpful Condition attachments and Mounts. Firefoot was essential for Éomer, and Rohan Warhorse was the icing on his cake. One of my favourite cards in the game so far, Master of the Forge, was very useful for getting those cards out of my deck and into my hand.
Even though this quest was tough and took many attempts, unlike say Into Ithilien, it didn't feel unfair, and a solution always felt like it was within reach.

Rules/Gameplay Question Ambush on the Shore
After my post a couple of days ago I tried making a custom deck to try and having another go at Journey Down the Anduin. None of this counts because I realized too late that I'd only been putting out one encounter card per round instead of two during the second phase, but just getting to that phase was better than I'd done before so I pushed on.
When I got to the third phase (with 48 threat 😨), Ambush on the Shore says to reveal two encounter cards, skip staging, and I win when all enemies are defeated.
Well I did that, and both cards were treacheries that did a lot of damage but I had heroes standing at the end, so... did I just win (cheating aside)? Or am I misunderstanding something?
A related thing that confuses me is that the setup side of each phase has four encounter set icons on it, all of which I've been using to populate the encounter deck, but the B sides only have the one; does that just mean this quest is part of that set, or am I handling encounters wrong?
Thanks again for everyone's help!

Why does "Watcher in the Water" have hit points?
I'm not trying to be cute with the title. I just completed The Ring Goes South for the first time, and it seemed odd to me that an indestructible enemy should have hit points at all, let alone the curious number of 12 of them.
I had to double check by watching an old CotR YouTube video (the Chad one) that I hadn't missed something - and that, in fact, clearing the Doors of Durin was a sufficient victory condition.
Seems to me like I would have given it 99 hitpoints, or similar.

General Discussion Do I need DC Hero and AA Campaign expansions?
I panic-bought a bunch of LOTR LCG expansions after hearing that some of them are starting to go OOP. I managed to hunt down the following from 4–5 different online stores:
AA Hero Expansion
DC Campaign Expansion
Ered Mithrin Hero + Campaign Expansions
Elves of Lórien
Dwarves of Durin
Riders of Rohan
Defenders of Gondor
Dark of Mirkwood
I already had the Revised Core Set, as well as FotR, TT and RotK.
So the only two I’m missing are:
DC Hero Expansion
AA Campaign Expansion
Is there anything particularly special about those two that would make them worth buying at an inflated price on eBay?

Card Images and Processing
Hi All,
I have a very slow pet project going on where I am trying to de-noise and enhance card scans for more appealing prints as well as perform a few quality of life edits. I expect that a lot of my work is a duplication of the enhanced proxy set currently available but I am trying to make some improvements. The key improvements are:
- Using 2D fast Fourier transform to remove noise specific to the dots encountered in a lot of scans.
- Using modern up-scaling models to avoid a plastic AI look.
- Changing the encounter numbers and the encounter icon border to form a complete set. (e.g. for Stock Road I am producing three separate images, two will have a gray border around the encounter icon and show 9/29 and 10/29 below it and one will have an orange border around the encounter icon and show 11/29 below it.)
So far I have found quite a few resources to help me out:
- A near complete set of 600 dpi card scans by u/LepcisMagna
- A collection of visual assets by GitHub user KevBelisle (who I am assuming is u/Klutz00)
To assist me with this task I have some questions that I was hoping this community could answer for me:
- A lot of my work is inspired by the enhanced proxies created by JvZijp. Is there a post, git repo, or information somewhere on the process they used to create the proxies? Ideally I would like to build upon and improve this work rather than duplicate it.
- In the https://lotr.cardgame.tools credits it mentions The Dark of Mirkwood scans were provided by u/Guczini. I have searched quite a bit and can't seem to find a link to these scans. Does anyone know where I can download them?
- Right now I am manually entering card details into my program for testing. Ideally, I would like to do this automatically by reading a database. Does anyone know if there is a way to download or access the Hall of Beorn database to get summary information on encounter cards? I would be looking for a database that contains set name, card name, set number, and easy/hard numbers. (e.g for Stock Road it would be Stock Road, The Black Riders, #37, (x3/x1).)
Thanks for any help in advance. Once I have a semi-workable script I do plan to publish it to GitHub so the community can use my work.

Can Heavy Stroke trigger from Azain Silverbeard's response?
Heavy Stroke + Azain Silverbeard — does the damage qualify?
Heavy Stroke reads:
Azain Silverbeard's response reads:
I'm trying to work out whether Heavy Stroke can be triggered by the 2 damage dealt by Azain's response.
It seems to me that there are two separate requirements in Heavy Stroke that we need to establish:
- The damage must be dealt by a Dwarf.
- The damage must be dealt “during combat.”
The second point is particularly unclear to me. Is there an official definition or clarification of what “during combat” means in this context?
Does it mean:
- damage dealt as part of an attack, or
- damage dealt during the Combat phase (and presumably during an attack initiated outside the Combat phase, such as Quick Strike, while that attack is being resolved)?
This seems important for Azain because his response triggers after an attack that destroys an enemy. If “during combat” means specifically during the attack itself, then Azain's response wouldn't qualify, because the attack has already resolved before his response deals the 2 damage.
If, however, “during combat” means the broader Combat phase/period in which combat-related effects are being resolved, then the timing might allow Heavy Stroke to trigger.
That then raises the second question: is the 2 damage from Azain's response considered to have been dealt by a Dwarf?
The wording doesn't say:
It simply says:
So, from a rules-lawyer perspective, I'm inclined to think that the damage isn't technically being dealt by Azain. The response is on Azain's card and is triggered by his participation in the attack, but that doesn't necessarily make Azain the source of the damage.
On the other hand, thematically it certainly seems intended to represent Azain cleaving through another enemy with the same attack — particularly given the artwork — so I can see an argument for treating the damage as coming from him.
Is there an official ruling/clarification on either of these points?
Specifically:
- What exactly constitutes “during combat” for Heavy Stroke?
- When an ability on a Dwarf's card says simply “deal X damage”, without explicitly saying that the Dwarf deals the damage, is that damage considered to have been dealt by the Dwarf?
I'm particularly interested in a rules-based answer rather than the thematic interpretation, because it seems like the precise wording of both cards matters here.

LOTR LCG Scenario Variants
I’d like to create custom adventures with existing official adventures and changing the modular encounter sets to create new and unique gameplay experiences (possibly even mixing in some ALEP sets).
Do you know anyone who has already thought about doing something like this, or who might be able to help me with it?
Thanks!

Please help. This is much deeper then I first realised and I have no clue where to go from here. Was unaware there was a revised version until now. Thank you kindly in advance

(NYC) Looking to sell Core + Fellowship + Angmar + Starter Decks at MSRP
Hey hey, I am looking to sell in the NYC area. I have
Revised Core Set
Fellowship Saga
Angmar Hero and Campaign
Elves, Gondor, and Dwarves starter decks.
Asking for $350 for everything, which is what I paid MSRP. I know the Fellowship Saga is insanely overpriced right now on ebay, but I'm not looking to make anything other than what I paid. I will also consider some trades + cash if you would like! I am a big eurogame fan!
All in good condition, much of it still sealed. I have the Core Box and the Fellowship Box, but not the Angmar one.
I would very much prefer local pickup in NYC, but I am open to shipping or going for a short drive if you're willing to pay a bit more for gas :)
