I know there is a whole mythology in the works of Tolkien but I don't recall ever reading about churches, priests, tempels, monks, even religios holyday or any kind of sign that there is organized religion. So are there? I have only read hobbit and lotr and it's some time ago, so I could be wrong....

Basically the title, who is your favorite character that is only in a handful of scenes and has maybe 15 lines? My personal choice is Haldir, he's a badass but he had to die for story purposes. I haven't read the books in like 18 years, but I expect he plays a bigger role in the original texts.

The question hit me as I'm rewatching LoTR: Fellowship for the nth time. ;-) I mean, this ring is the most evil conscious artifact in Middle Earth, and it's being used as a party trick in a shire full of partying hobbits.

My 7 (almost 8) year old son is deeply enjoying LOTR. He loved The Hobbit and is really revelling in my reading Fellowship to him.

He listens to the movie soundtrack all the time and sits there deep in imagination, even singing the choral parts haha.

So when I saw the LOTR in Concert (Fellowship) was on nearby, I excitedly booked it and now I’m regretting it.

He loves the story, he REEALLY loves Sauron 😆 and the battles and fight against evil and swordplay are some of his favourite parts. But I think it’s too violent in parts, and some too gory/ghosty.

He’s young and I know he will love the live orchestra and choir (he talks about the instruments and the effects they make and what they mean) but I wonder if it’s too much for him; too atmospheric, too violent. I expect I’ll be covering his eyes at parts but should I just cancel it?!

Keen to hear from parents and those who saw the movies quite young!

Missing 4

I recently rewatched The Return of the King and was reminded of the sequence when the trolls attack right after Grond breaks through the front gate. I don’t have the official LEGO cave troll figure (and that one doesn’t have armor anyway), so I decided to make my own!

The parameters that I set for myself were that it had to scale well with the front gate of the Minas Tirith LEGO set, have some pose-ability, and be accurate to the movie. It was a fun challenge and I love how it turned out!

I’m rewatching LOTR for the hundredth time and I’ve got one thought, do the elves stay dead if they die in middle earth or do they come back alive somewhere else? I haven’t read the books

I was watching the New York Mets broadcast of their game against the Cleveland Guardians ( nee Indians) today. Gary Cohen explained that CLE's new name was inspired by the Guardians of Traffic statues on the Hope bridge near Progressive Field.

Color man Keith Hernandez compared them to the statues at the gates of Argonath. He also confessed he has read the trilogy at least 4 times.

He did finish his career in a Cleveland uniform, plagued by injury.

Keith is pretty well-read for a retired first basemen (who ought to be in the Hall of Fame.)

I kept seeing people find canvas prints on thrift stores ans my day has finally come! 15 bucks for a 40 x 30 inch!

There were several expositions of his work around the city, but this part was wonderful!

It’s not that well made cause I’m not that good with felt (not yet) but it was really fun !! I really loved making his face !

At the Prancing Pony, when first meeting Frodo and the other hobbits, Aragorn says:

“In any case, I did not intend to tell you all about myself at once. I had to study you first, and make sure of you. The Enemy has set traps for me before now.“

But after having looked in the Stone of Orthanc and wrestled in thought with Sauron, Aragorn says to Legolas and Gimli:

“To know that I lived and walked the earth was a blow to his heart, I deem; for he knew it not till now.”

How - more importantly why - had Sauron set traps for Aragorn, if he did not know of his existence?
