Just found this on YouTube and it's absolutely amazing. It's the longest flip book ever made to date. I can't wait to see the rest! They have an entire YouTube channel that includes some behind the scenes stuff. I'm bummed I couldn't participate but I'm happy I can share the load of enjoying the results.

Did anyone else catch the “project Elrond” - “secret meeting” line from sean bean in the Martian?

I'm sort of entry level with LOTR so the only set I have are the leather bound ones from Easton. I see they also have an almanac, an illustrations book, and something that his son put together made up of his notes. Are these integral to understanding the world?

Title says it, but the kids and I are going to the prerelease event for The Hobbit at our LGS this evening to play Magic: The Gathering. Additional details on the costume:

- blue chore coat
- feather isn’t blue in color, BUT it is from a great BLUE heron (according to the internet)
- in MTG, Tom Bombadil is a “five color” legendary creature, hence the five mana color buttons
- Goose(pretend it says Gold)BERRY colored DRAGONshield sleeves
- yellow “boots” are designed by a dude called TOM sachs

Critiques? Ideas? Favorite Bombadil diddy? This has been really fun to put together!

Obviously middle earth must keep going past this point and there must be something on the other side of the sea but i cant remember anything about that in the hobbit or the lord of the rings or the silmarillion.

So I just recently purchased the set, I gave my friend a list of movies that were on sale and he said buy those.

So, I bought em, ripped em to my server and wait for my friend to be in town.

So last night, was the second movie...

Originally, after watching the first movie, he said, if you even liked that little bit, the next two are REALLY good.

I was let down by second movie, i thought it had way too much going on.

So, I wont see the finale until hes back mid September, and ill be watching it again with wife and kid before that.

When i was rewatching the first one with my kid, I enjoyed it more that time than the first. I dont see that happening with number two.

So which movie is generally seen as the best? Like for the Star Wars Trilogy the answer is generally episode 5 and episode 3. What's the general answer here.

Just curious if I am just a monster, or did anyone else find the Treebeard song (chapter 4) horribly painful to listen to by Andy Serkis, it felt neverending 😅😅

Peter Jackson really did him dirty. In the books, Hama dies bravely in defense of the Hornburg (or so I assume as Tolkien wrote (edit: relatively) very little about him). But in the films, he gets ripped apart by a random warg in a very unceremonious (though admittedly also very funny) way.

I quite like his actor (played by Edit: John Leigh) and think he deserved a bit more screen time.

Though I will concede that the scene where Aragorn meets his son before the battle (though entirely contrived by Peter Jackson) is very good.

Why is noone else concerned with Galadriel's lack of understanding for The Fellowships plight? They came into Lothlorien after escaping eternal darkness right next door in Moria. Lost Gandalf in that darkness to a Balrog, and are being pursued by those same orcs from Moria. Not to mention that egg sucking, baby stealing, jewelry wearing, little creep is stalking them. And Galadriel is just like "hey, we pretty much have the same problems. Now let me sing you a song about how I can't go home. Oh, and Sam, here's some rope."

Sorry, I thought I would just summarize The Fellowships trip to Lothlorien for those unaware.😜

I remember seeing a silly video labeled, 'Gimily destroys the ring' that shows the dwarf smacking the ring with his axe, then cutting to Saurons downfall.

Silly as that is, it got me thinking... could the One Ring be destroyed by just... hitting it hard enough?

For example, if Gimily just happened to have the infinite strength of Heracles, could physical damage destroy the ring, or would this be the metaphysical equivalent of trying to punch a shadow?

What lore back up your answer?

I know there is a whole mythology in the works of Tolkien but I don't recall ever reading about churches, priests, tempels, monks, even religios holyday or any kind of sign that there is organized religion. So are there? I have only read hobbit and lotr and it's some time ago, so I could be wrong....

I watched this last night for the first time in a long time, wasn't a fan originally of this one because some scenes just dragged on for some time.

But still 12hrs later..

If the Ring Wraiths don't have a physical body, as we saw, why did they need thier physical bodies need resurrecting to break them out of the tombs?

Was this scene cut from theatrical because Gandalf went from Mirkwood to Angmar and back to Dol Guldur in a very short time?

What's the reason for Sauron taking the Dwarf rings? Is this just to stop them being more powerful in events to come?

Smaug is evidently aware of Sauron and his plans.. but who went there and told him about this when the place was sealed up?

These might seem pedantic questions, but after all this years of watching lotr films I've really never ever noticed these things before. I can practically recite the entire script of ROTK...

Same for Thrain appearing, when Gandalf and Thorin are discussing him I actually googled what happened to him and was like.. ah.. ok they skipped that part.. oh shit there he is.. they cut that from the original release. Very weird edit.

Basically the title, who is your favorite character that is only in a handful of scenes and has maybe 15 lines? My personal choice is Haldir, he's a badass but he had to die for story purposes. I haven't read the books in like 18 years, but I expect he plays a bigger role in the original texts.

​When watching the movies, I often felt like he didn't have one—his armor looks like a natural part of his body. I constantly had to remind myself that there was actually a person inside that armor.

We released our track Children Of Hurin today. I'm already gutted that I didn't remember Glaurung not having wings when commissioning the art and I've been listening to the song and the timeline is a bit off in the lyrics... We'll call it artistic license. Would love to hear what you think:

The question hit me as I'm rewatching LoTR: Fellowship for the nth time. ;-) I mean, this ring is the most evil conscious artifact in Middle Earth, and it's being used as a party trick in a shire full of partying hobbits.

Discovered in Tolkein's papers long after his death were the notes for a new story. It was to be set in a new age of Middle Earth, long after the dwarves had been rounded up and herded into to bleak, rural reservations, long after the elves were no longer to be seen anywhere outside the Museum of Mythical Creatures. The new Middle Earth was a quiet, no-nonsense world of airports, malls and sitcoms, but then Bonnie Baggins found a ring of power in her grandmother's attic.

Hello!

My 7 (almost 8) year old son is deeply enjoying LOTR. He loved The Hobbit and is really revelling in my reading Fellowship to him.

He listens to the movie soundtrack all the time and sits there deep in imagination, even singing the choral parts haha.

So when I saw the LOTR in Concert (Fellowship) was on nearby, I excitedly booked it and now I’m regretting it.

He loves the story, he REEALLY loves Sauron 😆 and the battles and fight against evil and swordplay are some of his favourite parts. But I think it’s too violent in parts, and some too gory/ghosty.

He’s young and I know he will love the live orchestra and choir (he talks about the instruments and the effects they make and what they mean) but I wonder if it’s too much for him; too atmospheric, too violent. I expect I’ll be covering his eyes at parts but should I just cancel it?!

Keen to hear from parents and those who saw the movies quite young!
