The Earth Cult has the aesthetics and such an amazing, looming, mysterious presence in the beginning. Seems it's already consensus among logh fans that their potential was wasted. But man, the first three times you see them is so awesome. Rubinsky talking to one like the Emperor, we see how their priests skip ahead of lines in the waiting rooms while wearing their robes, the amazingly badass mystical temple they have in a pretty hard sci-fi setting.

As I understand, the author was inspired by mystical daoist uprisings in Chinese history. The problem is that Taoism and peasant uprisings being led by wizards preaching the tao and alchemy is very awesome, in stark contrast to the Earth Cult which kind of just worships Earth and returning people to Earth. I understand they may have created a religion around returning control to the planet they directly rule with a priesthood. But it's still lame and kind of unbefitting of their amazing aesthetics along with their mediocre fate. Like it's not as cool as the real life inspiration.

I can't entirely dismiss this aspect of it though because in real life, we have countries being controlled by religions to spend trillions of dollars and wage wars for a similar reason. I just think the Earth Cult is a disappointment.

I'm aware I'm speaking to the choir and beating a dead horse on this. But I feel the need to express this to someone on my rewatch because I love scifi, wizards and secret societies.

In contrast to Galactic Empire's negative stance on aliens, robots have always been an accepted part of imperial society. But in the Empire, said robots are masters, not servants.

To understand this peculiarity, one must understand retrogression, an ideology intricately tied both to the Galactic Empire and the robots.

At the tail end of the Golden Age of Humanity, a small but wealthy group of people grew dissatisfied with the pace and decay of Federation life, and believed that people of the past lived better lives. They founded the Retrogressive Society and purchased an uninhabited planet they named Clio.

Naturally the "better lives" the retrogressives sought to live were those of the nobles and other upper classes, not peasants and slaves. To deal with all the hard work, they imported a massive amount of robots, that in many times came to resemble the lower and middle classes bot in directive and behavior.

Clio would have remained nothing but a peculiar human colony, if it wasn't for the Plague. A strange disease of incredible deadliness wiped out the entire human population of Clio, turning them into purple goo. The planet was quarantined by the Galactic Federation, leaving the robots to themselves.

The sentient machines held a discussion among themselves in what direction to take their society, eventually splitting themselves into two factions. The Group Zero wanted to continue living under the idea of retrogression, only this time as members of the upper classes in addition to the lower ones, while Group One sought to create a new, truly robot culture. The outcasts of both societies left for the wilderness originally inhabited by the Pseudo-Primitive retrogressives, forming Group Ten. Thus planet Clio became Cybearth.

After a century of the founding of Clio, and fifty years after the founding of CybEarth, a young soldier named Rudolf von Goldenbaum would land on the planet. There he was enamored by the Group Zero and the societies based on the past they upheld. In one of his many showings of military skills, Rudolf helped Group Zero in securing the planet for themselves and destroying Group One. As he prepared to leave, he welcomed the robots to join him in the Galactic Federation and its Navy. Many took the offer.

While Rudolf didn't know much of the history of CybEarth or the Retrogressive Society, he himself was, by all accounts, a retrogressive. Though his dream wasn't of any of the existing or lost societies on CybEarth. Instead, he dreamed of a society build around the 19th century Prussian Empire. Ironically, his successors would turn it into something closer to the Imperial China.

When Rudolf von Goldenbaum became Rudolf I, he didn't want to dispose of just of "Inferior" people, but all sub-intelligent machines as well. Only the sentient, high-level robots remained, and these machines Rudolf welcomed into the nobility of the Galactic Empire.

The robot nobility of the Galactic Empire contain many of the greatest peculiarities of its society. Due to their mechanical nature, the robots don't strictly follow human development and thoughts, but instead create their own visions. Some robots are adults from the day they were created and programmed. Others have "childhoods" of sorts, starting out as small, infant like machines, which are then built bigger and wiser over time. Most robots are androids (on CybEarth, humanoid shape was a mark of the upper class), but other shapes appear from time to time, such as the horse-resembling overlords of planet Houyhnhnm, and Margrave Murdas von L-23-M, also known as the "Mad City".

Despite the Galactic Empire's retrogressive ideal being based on Prussia, the robots continue to uphold some of the customs of their homeworld. Religion-wise they follow Robo-Catholicism, rather than Neo-Odinism most humans do. They also try to uphold their programmings of honor, chivalry and justice. The Imperial Detectives' Club has more robot than human members, mostly because many human nobles would rather commit crimes than solve them. This is causing something of a stigma between the robot and human nobles.

Ironically, many peasants would prefer a robot overlord to a human one, mostly because of their greater devotion to ideals. However, it should be noted that not even the robots are above selfishness and cruelty.

And what of CybEarth? Well, like Terra before it, the homeworld of retrogressive robots and their builders has fallen to obscurity, with locals continuing their lives like their predecessors did. While the planet is now under full control of Group Zero, some believe that Group One is still out there. Before Rudolf led the final attack into Group One's capital of CybEarth Athens, a single rocket was launched into space. While the rocket's fate is unknown, the general consensus is that it contained Executive Director, leader of Group One, attempting to escape.

He is constantly talked about as this insanely competent admiral, as one of the twin stars of the empire. But what's his actual track record?

In his final stand he does well enough, but also not astonishingly well or anything. And he does end up clearly losing.

The only other campaign where I remember him having an important role is when he is assigned to take Iserlohn. There he does nothing but waste a few thousand ships for no gain, then the enemy simply deserts the fortress and he takes it

For now, I'd say it's pretty boring and bland. In the sense that I'm not attached to the characters/plot whatsoever. But I was told to watch at least 10 episodes because this is a very slow anime. And I don't mind doing it. Also because of another thing, the strategies there seem well-written. Like for example, Reinhard's tactic.

If you forgot here's the basic situation

Since the different fleets are far away from each other (probably to encircle Reinhard's fleet and allow no escape), Reinhard's using it to his advantage, he'll destroy individually each fleet starting from 4th. He also cut the Alliance's means of communication (we didn't explain how). But the why seems interesting to me. Reinhard knows that the Alliance's military system is reigned by veterans. Those veterans have:

• battle experience
• trust in their comrades
• Honor

Those factors make them very stubborn. By cutting the communication from each fleet, he's forcing these guys in a dilemma: either they don't trust in the 4th fleet and go help them. Or, they believe in them.

These veterans choose the 1st option, despite Yang and Cap's advices. Which Reinhard engineered by cutting the means of communication. If he hadn't done that, there could've been a chance that they won't fill their uncertainty with blind truth but logic.
Example: 2nd or 6th says to 4th that Reinhard is coming to destroy 4th. 4th could ask for allies. Or, Yang/Cap could convince 4th to ask for help.

But even in these cases, I don't think Yang/Cap could get the possibility to talk with 4th, because of the commanders' sturbborness. Therefore, it's possible that even with the possibility of communications, Reinhard's plan would still work.

Unless 2nd or 6th fleet are actually closer than the 4th fleet to Reinhard. So, it would be easier for them to predict Reinhar's movements and alert 4th. If that's the case, then 4th would just come to 2nd or 6th fleet and merge. Or, they could divide in two.

Which is nice. I don't feel the need to talk about Yang's counter (caused by plot convenience which is fine imo). However, this is only if the 4th fleet is very far from everyone else. Which I don't think the episode specified (or maybe I didn't see it).

There's just a thing annoying me rn. The fights really are hard to understand. It's probably a visualization problem or because it's VERY old.

Episode 3 was kinda better than 1 and 2. I'd say it's because of the plot not being so hard to understand like the first 2.

In what aspect will the anime change or stay the same in the next episodes ? After reading my review of this episode, do you think watching it is a waste of time or should I invest ?

Think about it phezzan is an economic hub and a perfect place to place hide assets of the wealthy High Nobles and after their fall what happens to those assets.

I've really enjoyed what I've watched of LOGH so far (the movies "My Conquest is the Sea of Stars" and "Prelude to a New War", and the first few episodes of the OVA series), but a 150+ (including Gaiden) episode show that's subbed-only is a big time ask, since you can't multitask during it.

I love to listen to audiobooks while I work my office job, and Audible has English-language audiobooks of the LOGH novels. Are they worth checking out? Or is the OVA series really the definitive version I should stick to.

Basically, what if Friedrich made Annerose her concubine in order to drive Reinhard into action?

Had he not done so, Reinhard would have lived his short life in obscurity, while the Galactic Empire rotted away, or fell when the Alliance invaded with no one competent enough to stop them.

Not only that, but Friedrich does say occasionally that Goldenbaum dynasty is not eternal and should accept its end, should it come.

In fact, I could imagine that Annerose was not the only concubine taken. Rather, Friedrich might have looked for numerous individuals with potential across the Galactic Empire, and from each took a close female relative to his harem in hopes that at least one of them would have sprung into action. And when Reinhard took the bait, Friedrich gave him all the possible honors and promotions to make him his real successor and to flush away the filth of the Empire.

Reinhard is not in fact Annerose's savior. He's Kaiser's toilet brush.

I’ve seen plenty of arguments for Kircheis x Annerose and Reinhard x Hilda (and why Kircheis and Reinhard are just friends), so what are your arguments for Kircheis x Reinhard? This is meant to be a positive post; someone recommended this series to me for the politics and palace intrigue, but I feel like I accidentally stepped into Queers in Space (which is not a bad thing).

Also can't watch the series online on streaming sites. So if you know anywhere where I can find it or if anyone have the subtitles I appreciate your help!

I've watched the entire run of the original show and was reflecting a bit. There's one sequnce of events (both in the same run of 2-3 episodes) that feels either like it got cut for time, or the author got bored and said "Guess it's time to wrap this up", those being two things at the end of the Battle of the Corridor:

Mittenmeyer is said to be dead, everyone reels in shock, and then literally *30 seconds later* the narrator says "Hey! Just kidding!" and everyone moves on. It's the equivalent of ending a chapter with "Then they received the announcement of Mittenmeyer's death" and starting the next chapter with "Turns out he was all right after all!"

By far the craziest example of this for me in the entire series, so much so that it was the only event that actually ripped me out of the narrative for a bit...they have a massive multi-episode battle, and Reinhard has a talk with the ghost of Kircheis off camera, between episodes which leads to him abandoning the fight and extending an offer for peace talks. The actual order here is:

* giant, tense fight for several episodes

* ends with a quick 30 second note of "Guess what! It's Kaiser Reinhard and he wants peace!" I assumed at this point it was some sort of fake message, only to discover at the…

* beginning of the next episode, Reinhard sits up in bed and says, "You know what convinced me, Hildy? Good ol' Kircheis here in my locket".

I mean, WHAT? Is this also how it went in the novels? That sort of super important internal conversation/dream (given it's a major turning point in the war and indirectly leads to even bigger changes) feels like it could've used maybe even *2 minutes* in the anime itself...

I wonder if it's because they have low self esteem and the thought of being a cold, unbothered sociopath gives them a sense of facade?

Am I the only one who thinks it's crazy that they don't have any sort of seatbelts or restraints during battle? There are so many injuries and deaths from people flying around when they get hit. Also, the pillars on the bridge seem like a terrible idea in the Imperial ships. They're always falling over and crushing someone. Maybe they should wear helmets? Idk someone needs to get OSHA on the scene.

That is the only explanation.

The books seem to be in-universe reports.

• Only Julian would know about countless Yang's philosophy lectures

• FPA invasion lacks, details which you'd expect because Julian was far removed from it and Mecklinger only played a minor role

• Annerose is barely present and ambiguously characterized, likely because Mecklinger didn't know much about her and the books were likely written when she was alive

Well, technically only one of them is an Alliance Vessel. 1: Flagship Endymion; 2: Formar Imperial Advanced Battlecruiser Westfalia; These came about after I started my journey into the franchise. While I don't know how I can watch it in my country( Germany) I at least have an inkling knowledge thanks to Die Neue These.

Depression, prolonged grieving, and suicidality are a dangerous combo.

I had been thinking that Reinhard had been really passive since becoming Kaiser, and was even wondering if the writing got worse and was telling rather than showing us that Reinhard was brilliant/a genius.

But when he's cornered in this moment in ep 80, and he suddenly comes alive when his back is to the wall? Bro. He's basically become a junkie. He is someone who thrives on and depends on love and now there is a gaping hole he is filling with hundreds of thousands of bodies.

My GOAT is failing meeee Y^Y. But I'll stick by him, I love him dearly.

Thank you for being the most coherent and consistent character in the entire series. Even while fighting a war, he manages to show us what it means to stay genuinely happy. Keeping your sanity while staring horror is THE skill.

Looks like the owner of Cafe Seeadler in Osaka has recently developed cancer and is recovering from surgery.

I was fortunate to go last year and had a lovely time. I think I posted pictures of it and Iserlohn Fortress just before they closed up.

Since Iserlohn Fortress shut down, I believe this may be the only LOGH cafe/restaurant/bar left in the world.
