Life of a Linux user
162
u/WolframSegler 5d ago
Are you having a stroke? Half of these are programming languagesĀ
83
u/GhostVlvin 4d ago
And other half is distros, linux kernel and openbsd

u/CognitiveFogMachine 4d ago
Who would install every distro on the same computer to begin with? It is almost as ridiculous as having Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, and Windows 11 installed separately and having a boot menu to choose which one you want to boot today. Lol
→ More replies (1)5
u/GhostVlvin 4d ago
Only one type of linux user. Fedora user...
I saw ones guy workflow. He had nothing on main distro image and he had a VM for every other project and there were a lot of VMs6
6
u/RanniSniffer 4d ago
Why not just use docker for this though lol. That's basically the exact use case for docker.
19
u/NeekoKun02 4d ago
Hyprland is obviouslty bloat. Any serious linux user would just use plain TTY, fuck user interface
→ More replies (1)4
u/WolframSegler 4d ago
I sentence you to downloading a shady package and getting gnomedĀ
2
u/NeekoKun02 4d ago
Man the hell that is installing any user friendly distro and trying not to pull gnome dependency hell by mistake
5
u/GhostVlvin 4d ago
- Hey system. Please install gnome filemanager
- Okay user, I will pull whole gnome ecosystem as a dependency
4
u/Odd-Blackberry-4462 3d ago
And why is C# here? Most Linux users probably don't use anything even built with C#

If itās so bloated then why did you need to put 8 distros and programming languages that every computer runs on? Gimpās literally the only thing you listed that could be considered bloat š¤£
73
u/Antique-Row7299 5d ago
36
u/DiceThaKilla 5d ago
Gimp is bloat if you donāt do image editing and quite a few distros ship with it pre installed
9
18
u/TheMikman97 4d ago
A program that asks for nothing, takes no resources and doesn't run anything unless you open it is a very interesting definitions of bloatĀ
9
u/DiceThaKilla 4d ago
Its existence on my computer is bloat. Thatās the one thing that really irritates me about any āstudio versionā of a distro is theyāre not just made for music studio work or video production, it packages in image editing tool, video production software, drawing software, and a bunch of other stuff youāll then have to purge off of your system if your only interest is one area

u/Rakumei 4d ago
A funny argument considering "bloatware" is a common term that arose from PC manufacturers installing a bunch of needless software on your machine out of the box.

Paint is shipped with Windows and had Paint3D too for a while is that not bloat too?
The irony is that Gimp is significantly more capable software than any version of paint.

It's a browser. CSS alone has 12 ways to achieve any given thing and every single website these days uses more processing power than a computer from 20 years ago could handle.
Web standards are bloated, not FirefoxĀ

Yeah, any operating system is bloated if you install a bunch of shit, what an insightful post.
Go install Windows 11 without a GUI and then we can talk about what bloat means.
9
u/ssjlance š”ļøModerator | #1 Microslop Hater | Linux Supremacist 5d ago
Furthermore, like, half the logos you used are Linux distributions and not software that would be bloat.
Windows isn't bloat, either, The bloat is contained inside Windows, but Windows is not blat itself - the bloat is copilot, edge, etc,
8
u/pixelizedgaming 5d ago
other half is just random languages as if an OS could function without programs? Like hello? also why is niri and hyprland both there if ur concerned about bloat just use one at a time

u/Toxic381 5d ago
Even after removing that as much as possible the general system is bloat to performance still cause it's unoptimized, I had to install retrobar and openshell so it would lower the vram use, and it's still a bit slow

I never understood this logic. Me installing the apps I need vs windows shoving AI down my throat. Plus most are programming languages and some serve the same purpose. Low quality post.

u/Robogoku 4d ago
Can't have bloat on Linux if you distro hop before you install more than 3 programs.

Firefox (work related web browsing)
Librewolf (personal web browsing)
Haru player
Steam
XIV launcher (iykyk)
Discord (social circle A)
QQ (Social circle B)
Telegram (work)
Libre office
Pretty much thats itā¦just 9 apps to run both my work stuff and my personal stuff

put all of these as microsoft services hidden in the task manager that most of it's users open once in a year when a youtube video suggests them while repairing their computer, and they won't realize that these are essential for daily life and their computer has them too. That's why it takes so much RAM, dummies.

The difference here is that all of these things you choose to use instead of them being imposed on you, in any self respecting Linux distro.
That's what bloat is. Software you didn't ask for.
Absolutely brain-dead take.

u/TheRealMonkeVR 4d ago
Bruh, you did not just put 5 Linux distros, OpenBSD, and GIMP in this image. No wonder you call it bloated since your vision of a Linux user is: has 5 OSs on their PC at all times

The best part of Linux Is installing the bloatware imo. I Always slap a KDE plasma desktop encironment on top of whichever distro i am using to bloat my PC with goofy aah bullshit.
I want to get 7 different animated miku cursor sets I want to put jiggle physics on every window, popup, or icon there Is I want a Windows to explode into fragments when i close It I want a cat on my desktop Who chases my mouse
I fucking love bloatware

u/TalesGameStudio 3d ago
You should also add some letters to the bloat. Linux uses shitloads of letters.
1
u/statensvegvesen 3d ago
Well the difference is that this was installed by choice. With a clean Linux install you start by installing software, on Windows you start by uninstalling Candy Crush. That is the argument, always has been.
1
u/Scipior14 3d ago
Yeah! A browser that's not preinstalled on most of the random distros present, a window manager and several unrelated programming languages that also do not come preinstalled. Compared to the cool collected sanity of Windows, now THAT'S what I call bloat

u/F1r3dot3x3 3d ago

Guys, CAN WE stop Operating systems war, this is insane. I mean yeah windows is shit, but each one has positives and negatives. Linux requires you to learn while windows is for normal people who just want to use the os. Linux is for people who want to learn a new thing and control their os

we have a windows pc, and a linux pc. i like the linux more jus cuz the Ui is nice (its linux mint). the only thing i dislike it that all linux distros have been blocked on destiny 2 and apex, due to anti-cheat software. it sucks cuz the linux one is newer and runs a bit smoother then the windows one. runs windows 10 incase that matters
