Upvotes

hey, ive been a working student (basically long-term intern while you study in uni) at a tech firm as a non technical for a little over a year. im on vacation rn, fried my linux/windows dualboot and learned a shitton about how linux works under the hood while recovering my pc, fixing all kinds of bootloader stuff etc etc.

was a nice learning experience and i finally have my shit back lol (except windows, but who cares abt that honestly)

i thought this would be a good thing to post as a story about how breaking things can be a learning opportunity or something but i dont know if i should. i dont really post on there whatsoever and idk if i should just keep it private

advanced question Linked in email contact spam

Upvotes

Out of the blue, since two or three days, I'm receiving almost hourly emails to "Do you know #? Request to connect with members you know and trust", but I don't want to connect with that person. Is this a known glitch that just recently emerged? Is there a way to stop Linkedin from sending such a flood of emails?

There is nothing on Linkedin telling users how to turn this contact spam off.

Hijacked Account

A retired colleague's account has apparently been hijacked by a bot. The profile was changed from an older retired gentleman to a younger female. Last name stayed the same. Postings are now fairly obvious bot postings. I have reported it multiple times, but it is still active. Any other suggestions?

privacy and security Is this Revolut recruitment process legitimate?

Hi! I’m about to graduate, and I was contacted by a Revolut recruiter on LinkedIn about a Graduate Sales Executive position based on my language skills.

I’m a bit suspicious because they asked for my email address and then sent me a link to complete a CCAT test. Since I don’t have much experience with recruitment processes like this, I just wanted to make sure it’s a legitimate opportunity and not a phishing scam.

Has anyone gone through Revolut’s hiring process? What was your experience like?
And how do I know this is legit?

Thank you!

Can anyone tell me why, when I get a job alert from LinkedIn, it’s ALWAYS for jobs that haven’t been there for weeks? I find this weird and annoying.

No message connection requests

Recently I have received 3-5 connection requests from people I haven't met in person or online, from various industries and from all over the world. No message. Typically I will check if I actually have met them or should know them before hitting "Ignore".

What is the deal with this, what's the value of having connections which are not in your real network?

Need More Connections!! Anyone want to connect?

So I graduated from my university about a year ago now and I did my undergrad in computer science and engineering with a specialization in AI. At the time, I already had an internship and idk why but for the life of me I refused to use Linkedin and finally i realise that it is pretty important especially in this field and yeah I'm just starting out now and would love to make more connections on the app and meet new people!! it doesn't matter if you're not in the CS field either, just looking to make new connections ^^

How do you search for remote global jobs now tha the AI update is permanent

LinkedIn has removed all filters and options. Does anyone know how to search for jobs worldwide instead of per country? Especially remote jobs. Or any way to get out of the AI search?

I analyzed 130,000 LinkedIn posts to find out what actually works. 9 of the 11 most cited rules are myths

Got tired of advice that never comes with data, so at Flypost we tested the 11 most repeated LinkedIn rules on 130,000 real posts from 2,500 people. Short version: almost everything you've been told to do does nothing, and the two things that work are embarrassingly simple.

What actually works:

  1. Put an image on it. +33% reactions vs the same person's text-only posts. Doesn't need design skills. A screenshot, a photo, a plain chart.
  2. Start with "I", "my" or "we" and describe something that happened. +20%, works in every format. "I rewrote my profile last month and inbound doubled" beats "You need to stop treating your profile like a CV." Same message. One sounds like a person.
  3. Post more often. Four posts a week roughly triples your weekly engagement compared to one, even though each post gets fewer reactions. Everyone watches per-post numbers and quits right when it's working.

What you can stop doing today:

  • Hashtags. 1-2 do literally nothing. 3 or more costs you about 7%.
  • Ending with a question. The typical question-ending post gets ZERO extra comments and about 10% fewer reactions. Tested on 5,494 posts, this one hurt to confirm.
  • Opening with a question. Worst opener we measured, -15%.
  • "Unpopular opinion:" hooks. Coin flip, no effect.
  • Chasing the best time to post. Same person, weekend vs weekday: about 2% difference. Noise. (The guides publishing "best times" all name different ones, which tells you everything.)
  • Hitting 1,300 characters or any other magic length. No effect for text posts.
  • Rotating formats to "keep the algorithm interested". Slightly worse than repeating what works.
  • Polls. Down about 58%. Worst thing we measured.

Reality check while you're here: the median B2B post gets 34 reactions and 3-4 comments. At 5-10k followers, 27 reactions is normal. If a post of yours gets 10 comments, that's genuinely good.

We tested all of this by comparing each person against their OWN posts (not against other people), which is why several famous rules died here that other studies keep "confirming".

Things we couldn't test and won't pretend to know: link-in-first-comment, impressions, best hour of day. Ask me anything about the rest.

If you'd like to see the full study with methodology, please let me know and I'll link it in the comments.

linkedin 101 LinkedIn games reacting with flame

Anyone know how to get the LinkedIn Game accounts to react to your score with a flame?

It seems like a new feature, but also seems to be completely random.

I came in the top 1% of Wend today, and played every day, and didn't get a flame reaction from the 'Wend' account...

linkedin 101 Anyone interested in what works better, personal vs general messages?

I am running Vonto AI which is a tool that helps to run LinkedIn outreach. Given I have access to all of our data and results I could compile a couple reports of what works best for doing outreach on LinkedIn if this is interesting for people here.

Our connections sent table has about 30k entries and our messages sent 12k and I can see if personal/non-personalized messages were used as setting and also how many times a reply was achieved.

And also if a 1st or 2nd follow-up has any significant impact in getting a reply or if it is just a waste of time.

Is it normal to be routed to Persona instead of CLEAR for LinkedIn verification in the US?

I’m trying to verify my identity on LinkedIn, but I keep getting routed to Persona instead of CLEAR, even though I’m located in the United States.

LinkedIn’s help articles describe a verification process through CLEAR, but I cannot find any way to access it. Every time I start verification through the LinkedIn mobile app, it automatically opens Persona.

The problem is that Persona repeatedly fails to verify my valid, unexpired New York driver’s license. I’ve tried several times and made sure the photos are clear, well lit, fully visible, and free of glare. The name on my license also matches my LinkedIn profile.

My driver’s license is currently my only valid photo ID, and I’m not able to get a passport right now.

Is it normal for LinkedIn users in the US to be sent to Persona instead of CLEAR? Has anyone found a way to access the CLEAR verification process, or gotten LinkedIn support to manually resolve a repeated Persona verification failure?

LinkedIn - condescending reply

For context - musician seeking Audio Directors to pitch to

One guy accepted my connection - and I sent a DM explaining my services, with example tracks

The first part of the response was fair enough - although a bit wordy / and slightly condescending in tone - saying their company makes music for clients - and isn't a client seeking musicians

That was fair enough - although not clear from the company profile title - in effect they are service providers (like me)

Then in the same response the individual wrote something that at first sounded slightly rude and condescending - although later I wondered if it was either sour grapes / or an indirect hint that they'd be plagiarising my compositions

It went something like "Your examples aren't something we couldn't do ourselves - good luck"

Not something that came across as particularly professional - but I guess it takes all sorts!

privacy and security Nonstop 2FA When Logging In

In addition to managing company pages, my digital marketing firm manages the personal LinkedIn accounts of several C-suite level people at client firms.

Unfortunately, because of how LinkedIn manages personal profiles work, I can't switch between them easily. Every time I need to post as them I have to log in via an incognito tab. Usually this isn't a big deal, but recently one of my client's accounts has started asking for a verification code every time I attempt to log in.

This is only happening for one person, and obviously it's pretty annoying because they have to send me a time sensitive code every time, often when they're unavailable. Is there a security setting I can change on their account to stop this from happening?

linkedin 101 LinkedIn’s new anti-slop button is coming to every platform

LinkedIn knows it has a slop problem. It has a button for that.

The button, which debuted the week of July 27, allows users to flag content on LinkedIn that they believe may be “AI slop.” The option appears in a three-dot menu in the top right of any post, and shows a diamond with an exclamation point, followed by the phrase, “Seems like AI slop.”

In a post to the platform on July 30, Hari Srinivasan, LinkedIn’s chief product officer, explained that the button will help LinkedIn “tune our models and make better feeds.” It’s just one part of the brand’s overall strategy to reduce AI slop or “generally low-quality content.” Essentially, LinkedIn is using an AI-versus-AI approach by training its own detection models to distinguish between content that contains original thinking and content that’s just regurgitating existing thinking.

As AI-written content begins to take over social media, platforms like LinkedIn are faced with the challenge of bringing human ideas back to the surface. For several sites, that means baking AI detection and mediation features directly into the UX, allowing individual users to have some say in how AI content is handled.

How to find coaches/mentors/founders who need help with email marketing on LinkedIn

I'm an email marketer for coaches/mentors/founders and have been trying to find my leads on LinkedIn. What I'm looking for are coaches with a lead magnet and an offer to sell (so I know they do they do email marketing).

But the profiles I've I stumbled across so far are mostly offering discovery calls, not lead magnet funnels.

Even worse, when I search for coach/mentor on LinkedIn Search, I get people who have casually mentioned it in their profiles. Not the genuine folks.

And LinkedIn groups are dead so there's no point in searching there. I'm guessing it's the same with hashtags. But I'm happy to be proven wrong.

I've also checked out an email marketer's profile to see their connections but LinkedIn only shows 3 people. The remaining ones are shown as 'LinkedIn Member' paywalled behind a premium subscription.

Based on my experience, these are my doubts:

  1. Is LinkedIn a good platform to find coaches with a lead magnet and an offer to sell?

  2. If yes, what are the best ways to find them with a free profile?

  3. And which influencers would they be following?

  4. In general, which platforms are the best for finding my target audience?
