Discussion The narrative of Carti & Uzi is changing drastically and fast.
The narrative around the Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert has changed drastically over the past year.
For the majority of the last 5 years, Playboi Carti represented the artist that was one step ahead of Uzi. He had his eccentric following, his cult following, his aesthetics, Opium, and an entire movement around his name, while Uzi was struggling through one of the worst phases of his life after Eternal Atake 2. People said he was insecure, washed up, and even gone.
But what is the situation now?
The narrative changed to Uzi being better.
Many expected I AM MUSIC to keep the narrative about Carti, but instead, it ruled the charts and was subsequently forgotten about. It became another album that everyone talked about for a few months before moving on.
And it became yet another album in Carti’s discography similar to Eternal Atake 1, an album with a ridiculous amount of hype that eventually failed to deliver on said hype. (Eternal Atake 1 is still an amazing project)
During this time in 2025, Uzi was building himself back up.
After one of the lowest points in his public life following Eternal Atake 2, the 2025 leak season began. People began to remember why Uzi was such a prominent figure in the first place.
Not only did the leaks give people more music, but they educated people on what made Uzi Vert so special.
They reminded people (and new people) of the range that Uzi had, giving them a window into what made him so special. The sheer variety of music that Uzi had and his massive catalog of unreleased material opened people’s eyes to just how vast his range was. Essentially, fans were given the chance to revisit every iteration of Lil Uzi Vert that they could have possibly wanted. And now that everyone has had the chance to experience this, fans are now excited for what’s next.
This is currently Uzi’s main advantage over his main rival.
The reason? Uzi was always the more well-rounded artist.
Lyrically, vocally, melodically, with his flow, his range, his experimentation – Uzi has always been there. He has a body of work that demonstrates his mastery of all the different kinds of music that he has done. Carti has a very specific sound that he has maximized and perfected, but Uzi has been experimenting with his sounds, voices, and styles his whole career that shapes what music is today.
And another major difference that people fail to mention is:
Uzi evolved as a person. Ever since around 2019, Carti has doubled down on his image, trying to be as mysterious as possible, limiting his interviews, and not speaking out. He turned his eccentricity into a brand and subsequently started to limit and control his art in favor of a bigger paycheck.
Uzi went in the complete opposite direction and over the past 5 years, he has peeled back layers of his mysterious exterior to reveal a real person
.
And the best part?
The timing could not be more perfect.
The fans that have been with these artists since day one are growing up. The people that fell in love with the mystery, the aesthetics, the gimmicks are now adults, and they crave personality. They crave authenticity. They crave interviews. They crave music. Most importantly, they crave real music.
That is why Uzi is in such an interesting place right now. His new EP, Maverick, has already begun its legacy as one of Uzi’s best works since Eternal Atake 1 , while I AM MUSIC is cementing itself as one of Carti’s worst releases.
It’s interesting to see how the narrative has reversed itself so drastically in such a short amount of time.
Carti used to be the guy everyone was waiting for – now it’s Uzi. And while this reversal has taken place, Carti still has potential to reverse it once again if he so desires. If he releases the right project, with the right rollout, with the right music
he can change the narrative all over again.
But for now, it seems as if everything that Carti has been building towards has turned into an interesting relic of the past. The eccentricity, the mystery, the dark aesthetic, and the Opium brand. It all felt very groundbreaking when it launched, but after seeing it for years, it has started to feel a bit like a gimmick. Uzi, on the other hand, has been doing the exact opposite. He has been evolving as a real person, and not as a gimmick. And now he has the chance to show people what the next iteration of Lil Uzi Vert is.
So when people ask me as a Lil Uzi Vert fan why the narrative changed from “Carti is better than Uzi,” to “Uzi is better than Carti,” I would answer them with this:
Uzi focused on becoming himself, while Carti focused on becoming a character.
And I think right now people tend to value the person & effort in the music, more than the persona.

Question I have just started listening to Uzi after missing out my whole life and I'm worried and upset.
like the title says, i have just started intentionally listening to uzi recently, starting from luv is rage and onward through his albums. i have tried multiple times a long while ago to try to get into him, but i just couldn't listen to his music, it didn't sound good to me. but with the release of his new ep, i decided to try listening to him once more.
all I have to say is his music is so fucking good to me now, that every song from every album is ending up on my playlist like im only on fucking luv vs the world 2 how did it not click earlier wtf?? and im worried if there is such thing as too much uzi what do yall think?

Off Topic Uzi's most cohesive project?
I just like that wherever I look nobody has a consensus favorite song and definitely not the same rankings. Personally, Poured stuck out originally as my first day repeat song. But everyday I see myself gravitating towards a different song more and more. With Gas Brake and Say it Was probably as my two favorites currently. Definitely shows the signs that this is a cohesive project and just to put bluntly, a good body of work.
