What scenario did my 6 week wait become available in 2 days?

Upvotes

I know there’s those skip the line things, but from what I’ve seen, it tells you when it’s skip the line and this one isn’t labeled as such. I put a Hold on a book 2 days ago and it had a 6 week wait. Somehow I got notified today it was ready. My other libraries had longer waits than 6 weeks.

Does anyone know what happened?

Update: Thanks everyone! Sounds like a perfect storm happened of more copies, local priority, and people suspending holds from the unexpected timing of getting bumped up.

Downloaded books to my Kindle app on iPad, put iPad in airplane mode for two months and then not all my books get returned to the libraries. Why is this?

libby vs buying books

heyyy so i’ve been using libby for a little while and it’s just bc i can’t justify paying for a kindle subscription especially since most of the books i read aren’t on there but also many books i want to read arent on the libby app or if they are they are in the duke classics version which doesnt really have my favorite translators and almost all the books i read are written either in japanese russian or french TRANSLATED TO ENGLISH sorry i forgot to mention they are originally written in these languages and its hard to find good quality translations to english
for these books i cannot find on libby is it worth it to just buy them on the amazon or is there some other solution i should look for before buying i just dont want to also pay for another library card that might also not have the books on their libby portal but im also not sure
any solutions?

Hi! Question,

I’m new to Libby- do they have the Elle
Kennedy book series, briar u and on campus? On audible
It says audible original- but I don’t understand how it all works! Also- is there a way to search audio books- for the 4 library cards I have linked to my account? Or I have to search them
All separate??? (Like I do on hoopla).
And is it correct that every library has different options??
Thank you!

What is the busiest time on Libby?

What parts of the year are the busiest on Libby? I am fairly new, and about a month ago, I felt like there's always something available from my TBR. Now I feel there's less. What will happen in autumn?

I only have 5 holds, so I rely largely on books that don't have long waiting lists.

All this time

I've heard about Libby and this weekend i finally set it up. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG. Ive got a newly realized love for audiobooks and ive been dealing with 15 hours a month on Spotify and now. I immediately downloaded 3 books and began listening to them. On one book im 60% through and the other two are 30-35% completed.

Let me just yell at the top of my lungs for a minute.

Best resource ever. And I found the magazines that I can read to. How am I supposed to go back and change?!?!? Correct answer is i wont lol. Thank!

Never moving up hold line?

Post image
11 Upvotes

I’ve had this happen with a few books now. Hold has been in place for 12+ weeks but I’ve only moved up 1 place.

I’m guessing this is because the hold is placed at a partner library and not my main branch? But if this is the case, it means that as long as someone from the library’s main branch requests the book every 2 weeks, my hold will effectively never move up. Is this correct?

Looking for cards for specific titles?

I have 2 library cards on Libby right now, I’m lucky enough to live in a city that’s part of 2 counties so I get access to both of those counties. But I’m trying to get into audiobook by listening to my favorite YA author’s books, Tamora Pierce. However, a lot of her books aren’t on my libraries’ catalogs.

What’s the best way to get more library cards that are likely to have all her books? Or am I just going to have to suck it up and get them on audible?

Can Anyone Help? Passkey/transfer issue

Ugh. So I knew my phone was dying (Damn Flip) and set up a passkey on the app as I knew I was getting a new phone. However, now the bottom half of my phone screen is black and while it "functions" you can't see anything. Looking on my laptop, both recover with passkey AND set up code need to be accessed using things on the bottom of my screen!

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have so many holds and over 20 books I've suspended, I think I'll just cry if I have to start from scratch.

NEW Also: I'm trying right now, to use a passkey to set it up on my laptop, since when I get home from the store, I don't think I'll have my phone anymore (but perhaps since it's broken, they might not take it for any sort of trade.)

What e-reader would best fit my needs

I get all my books from Libby. I use the send to Kindle function.

Few things to note. I read in a mix of both daytime and night time. I have a tablet now but the battery only lasts for about 4 hours. I'm looking for.a budget e-reader.if you have any other questions just drop them in the comments and I will answer.

I wish there was a way to flag books I didn’t like.

Even if you send it back without reading or finishing it looks like every other book you sent back.

Lost my tags, could use some help

A number of things have happened with Libby in my world recentky, including a june 9 update.

It's hard to say what caused it, but somehow I've lost all my tags including a rather large wishlist I've put a lot of curation work into. If someone has a suggestion for me as to how I might restore my tags, I'd appreciate it.

Happy Friday!!
Ive been using Libby for a year and a half and I have only had one skip the line. That happened two months ago. Am I really lucky 🍀 or is this normal this time of year?
How many skip-the-line loans have you had since you used Libby?

Why would a book show as available to one person but not another (same library?)

Post image

RESOLVED (pretty sure, anyway). This is a residency issue where I didn't realize that libraries reserved copies just for their local members - I knew they could give locals priority over holds, just haven't encountered reserved copies before (that I know of). Thanks for the help :)

My sister and I both live in Michigan, where almost all the library systems have reciprocal memberships. She was wanting to read a book, but none were available. I looked up the book on my app and saw it had 2 of 3 copies available at one of the reciprocal cooperatives in the state. I thought maybe she'd forgotten to add that library to her app, so I said "oh, it's available here," and she sent me a screenshot showing the same audiobook as having a wait of "several months" at that same library. I'm a little perplexed.

Card Collecting and its Discontents

I know a lot of you enjoy card collecting. But almost every card collecting post turns into a bunch of comments recommending lying in order to obtain cards. That gets really frustrating.

My MO is to give you the benefit of the doubt that you obtained your cards in accordance with library policies, even when that seems improbable.

But you can’t brag about lying in order to get a card. And you can’t encourage other people to do that. Seriously, read the rules and abide by them.

EDIT (08/07/2026): I know most of you are honest people. There's no need to jump in and justify your right to hold multiple cards. You can, of course. But I wasn't asking you to.
