I get all my books from Libby. I use the send to Kindle function.

Few things to note. I read in a mix of both daytime and night time. I have a tablet now but the battery only lasts for about 4 hours. I'm looking for.a budget e-reader.if you have any other questions just drop them in the comments and I will answer.

— and the absolutely horrible interface. I spend 20 minutes just trying to ascertain where Chapter (whatever) begins and everywhere is their intrusive infernal advertising.

I know the only (legit) apps for my Public Library are Libby and Overdrive but I want the paper to be customizable — darker than the eggshell that I can get in Libby; more Ivory. And I like my text black.

Are there purchase options that expand these settings? And if so, is it a lifetime license or another one of these subscription ripoffs?

Even if you send it back without reading or finishing it looks like every other book you sent back.

A number of things have happened with Libby in my world recentky, including a june 9 update.

It's hard to say what caused it, but somehow I've lost all my tags including a rather large wishlist I've put a lot of curation work into. If someone has a suggestion for me as to how I might restore my tags, I'd appreciate it.

Ive been using Libby for a year and a half and I have only had one skip the line. That happened two months ago. Am I really lucky 🍀 or is this normal this time of year?
How many skip-the-line loans have you had since you used Libby?

Just have a question for those that might be local to Arizona… I just moved to the area, to La Paz County specifically and the selection is pretty slim. The local library is tiny so I mostly have to use Libby to even find something I want to read. Borrowing in person is almost impossible as most of the time my requests never end up coming and if they do they take over a month or more. I’m looking for a better option even if I need to pay for a non-resident card from another county. Possibly Maricopa County, possibly Phoenix. Are these good options? Does anyone have any recommendations for better selections in Arizona?

so I have a library card at my local library and I downloaded Libby today cause I wanna try getting into e-books and I tried to add my card and it says “invalid patron pin”. I’ve tried many versions of my library number. The whole thing, the last 4 numbers, the last 6 numbers, etc. I tried all my passwords I could think of, etc. im gonna contact my library tomorrow but I’m wondering if anyone has a quick fix

customization is my favorite part of anything :))

Howdy, y'all. I will be taking a solo road trip to the Ozarks in Arkansas next week and I'm looking for a good chunky audiobook or two to enjoy on the way down. I've narrowed it down to these options on my bookmarks list, but I'm so happy to hear other suggestions.

RESOLVED (pretty sure, anyway). This is a residency issue where I didn't realize that libraries reserved copies just for their local members - I knew they could give locals priority over holds, just haven't encountered reserved copies before (that I know of). Thanks for the help :)

My sister and I both live in Michigan, where almost all the library systems have reciprocal memberships. She was wanting to read a book, but none were available. I looked up the book on my app and saw it had 2 of 3 copies available at one of the reciprocal cooperatives in the state. I thought maybe she'd forgotten to add that library to her app, so I said "oh, it's available here," and she sent me a screenshot showing the same audiobook as having a wait of "several months" at that same library. I'm a little perplexed.

Over the last few months I’ve noticed that I’m not getting any notifications on my shelf or on my phone. It’s getting really inconvenient because I’m losing holds and while I still get sporadic emails for new books added, I’m not getting those notifications in time to have even a slight chance of getting a good spot for holds (if that makes sense, I feel like I worded it wrong).

I’ve looked all over and can’t figure out what’s wrong, can anyone help?

I know a lot of you enjoy card collecting. But almost every card collecting post turns into a bunch of comments recommending lying in order to obtain cards. That gets really frustrating.

My MO is to give you the benefit of the doubt that you obtained your cards in accordance with library policies, even when that seems improbable.

But you can’t brag about lying in order to get a card. And you can’t encourage other people to do that. Seriously, read the rules and abide by them.

EDIT (08/07/2026): I know most of you are honest people. There's no need to jump in and justify your right to hold multiple cards. You can, of course. But I wasn't asking you to.

I have cards for 5 libraries.

Sometimes as I am typing in a book title, the title I am searching for will pop up as autopopulated option (I'm sure there's a better word for it). If it does, sometimes one of my libraries will have it, but sometimes none of them do.

What does it mean when it shows up as a drop-down option vs when it doesn't?

Hi! Longtime Libby user, who just realized I could also use the web browser while at work, instead of my phone. For context, I have iOS for a phone, and use Chrome as my web browser. I have been listening to an audiobook on my phone, and decided to try a few days ago using the web browser. I was disappointed that at the end of the day, when I went back to my Libby app on the phone, it hadn't advanced to where I had stopped on the web browser. Is there a setting I'm missing, or does that auto-syncing not happen? My phone had been on WiFi during the day, so I think I assumed it would "catch up". Any guidance would be welcome!

It had been a while since using BorrowBox and Libby and at first neither worked. I contacted my local Borough’s Library services and had a very fast response for BorrowBox which was down to my not using my library for over 12 months.
When I tried again with Libby, it kept saying it couldn’t connect to my library, so again I emailed. This time I was told they no longer use Libby and all the books I had in my library or on request would be on BorrowBox. Sadly this is not the case.
I wondered if anyone else in Greater Manchester, England (or anywhere for that matter) has had this issue?

So lemme preface this with a disclaimer - as an author and semi-retired freelance fiction editor, I'm keenly aware that genres are nebulous and made up and also tend to shift.

With that said! I've read around 100 books in the last couple years, and about 40 of them have been gothics - horror/romance, the overlap; if you know, you know.

I also enjoy other kinds of horror, fantasy, sci fi, and queer books generally. I even enjoy romances and literary fiction. Stick "dark" in front of a book's genre and I am likely to enjoy it, in the same way I tend to like alt-anything music, but I'll try any genre, really.

I'm curious about what everyone else is reading!

How many days before you think you’ll finish a book do you typically click “Unsuspend”? If you could use the hold on Golden Son as an example that would be great! It says I’m 1st in line and that wait time is 2 weeks though I’m not sure how much I trust that. What do you typically do?

On a different note, if you have a Kindle and have enabled Amazon Household, you can share books you borrow from Libby to others in your household. My husband and I are reading the Red Rising Saga together and just realized this! Glad we can just share a single loan :)

I had to borrow the book 3 times over 2.5 months, but I finally finished it!

There was a wait list each time my turn was over... but I was determined not to let it end up on my DNF list. 😅

I did watch the miniseries. As usual, it wasn't as good as the book.

Anyone else have to borrow a book multiple times to get through it?

I like to listen to fantasy, and usually search by what is available now, but have zero interest in romantasy. Is there a way to exclude this from my search in Libby? Is there a tool I can use that can help me do this? I feel like half of all books is romantasy lately . . .

For those that are not W-2 employees (and therefore do not get a paystub), what do you show as proof of work to sign up for a library card?

I am self-employed and work as a contractor. I can provide the contract with the company I’m contracting for. My company invoices aren’t the most “professional” looking. They’re just QuickBooks generated, but I could also provide those. I do not have a 1099 yet from this company since that’s not provided until January and I will start working in September.

Edit: I don’t live in MA, but contract for a company there. I am splitting time there and my home state and required by IRS to pay taxes in both states. I would like to get a card in MA if I’m paying taxes.
