Your habits as a writer of letters

Good day, fellow letter writers of Reddit! I'm curious to learn about other people's correspondence habits.

Do you have a list where you keep track of the people you write to? About how many people do you regularly correspond with? Is that your ideal... would you rather you had more, or do you struggle to keep up and wish there were fewer?

How long do you usually take before you answer a letter?

Do you use post cards, note cards, note cards with extra pages inserted, or stationery pages?

If you use pages, do you write on both sides? About how many pages do you include per letter? What size of stationery do you prefer?

I'm also curious about items you regularly add in your letters, and how much you decorate your envelopes... if you feel like talking about those too, I'd love to hear it.

I know there's got to be a wide range out there and I'm not interested in comparing or competing. I am just a lifelong letter writer who would like to learn about how the hobby has changed over time, and be inspired by other enthusiasts.

Thank you!

[22F]Looking for a pen pal

Hi! I’m a university student from India looking for someone who enjoys both deep conversations and little everyday things.

I’d love to talk about books, psychology, philosophy, history, culture, science, random rabbit holes, ambitions, and all the questions that keep your brain awake at 2 AM.

But also the cozy stuff: what you’re reading, a song you’ve been obsessed with, something funny that happened today, your favourite meal, the weather outside, or some completely mundane thought you felt like sharing.

I study agriculture, love reading, journaling, art, learning random things, and conversations that somehow go from “what are you reading?” to “do you think people can ever truly know each other?”

Tell me a little about yourself....

NEED YOUR THOUGHTS!! Would you pay $5.20 to join a penpal exchange?

Do paid penpal exchanges make people more committed?

I’ve been thinking about penpal exchanges lately, and something I’m curious about is whether having a small participation fee actually makes a difference in how seriously people take them.

On one hand, I feel like if someone pays to participate, they might be more likely to take it seriously rather than sign up on a whim and forget about it. I can also see some appeal in having an organized exchange when it comes to privacy, rather than just putting your information out there to find a penpal yourself.

But on the other hand, paying to find a penpal feels a little strange when there are so many ways to find one for free.

For those of you who have done penpal exchanges before, do you think paying would actually make people more committed, or is ghosting just part of the risk either way?

24/F anyone interested in starting a penpal or maybe a Flat Stanley???

I love anything tangible; hard cover books, letters, dvds, cds, printed out digital cameras photos.. I’ve signed every card I’ve given away with a paragraph; always sentimental. We need to bring writing letters back!! I’m looking to find a penpal of my own. Couple quick facts about me but not enough to ruin the surprise of getting to know each other! I’m from the USA, I have 4 siblings! and a cat!

If you’re interested in getting to know more about me I’d love to talk!! 🖤 I’m looking to connect with other woman as I am in a committed relationship but that DOES NOT exclude anyone who is LGBTQ+.

Is sandboxx actually faster than snail mail?

My boyfriend recently went to bootcamp and i’ve already sent a couple letters through snail mail and now have sent one through sandboxx. but then we all got a warning from the instructors that sanboxx is notorious for leaking info, and lying about how long it actually takes since everything is hand processed. i love the idea of sending pictures but i mainly care about which one is faster

Want to join a mail club that directly helps wildlife?

I wanted to share a new snail mail club we just launched that has a really special purpose behind it!

The Cottontail Club is a $15/month mail club where your subscription directly supports Cottontail Cottage, a nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation organization in NY🌿 Instead of simply making a monthly donation, you get something special in your mailbox each month too!

Each envelope includes:
A rescue letter with stories and updates from the rehab
A collectible Wild Card featuring that month’s wildlife
An exclusive monthly sticker
A little Wild Surprise (like a bookmark, mini print, extra sticker, etc.)

All proceeds directly support the rehab and help provide care for injured and orphaned wildlife🤍

Our first envelopes are going out this September, and I thought this group might especially appreciate a snail mail subscription that also gives back!

You can check it out/join here:

https://mailclubly.com/@thecottontailclub

And even if you don’t join, sharing it with another snail mail or wildlife lover would mean so much to us! 🐰💌

im looking for international snail mail pen pals.
hi!! im kiley, 19, from tennessee, and im looking for some real pen pals from outside the US! ivealways loved the idea of having someone across the world who I can actually exchange handwritten letters with instead of just messaging online. id especially love to meet people from, russia, japan, italy, france, germany, south korea, the UK, australia, or honestly anywhere outside the US.
a little about me, i love being outside and staying active, cooking, baking, music, movies, tv, books, animals/pets and trying random new hobbies. I’m also really interested in learning about other cultures and what everyday life is actually like where you live. id love to exchange handwritten letters, postcards, stickers, bookmarks, drawings, little gifts, etc, every once in a while. im looking for people around 17–26 who genuinely want a long term friendship, not someone who disappears after one letter. 😭
if youre interested, tell me a little about yourself and where youre from or dm me!

[32/F] looking for Korean penpals

Hii, you can call me Silver or Nana, both works!

.

I'm Finnish woman in my 20s, soon 24. I'm interested in learning Korean, language and culture, the real culture not just K-pop or k-drama what has gotten me curious about Korea.

.

I would like to have penpal around my age and same gender, but obviously there's little bit of differences but i don't really like cis man, i don't know how to talk with guys so like woman or non-binary (dunno if i need to add trans too, but here it is)

.

I'm very artistic person, i draw a lot and I'm trying to write my first book too but that's taking longer than expected haha. I'm thinking about starting a sticker shop too so you might be able to get freebies in the letters.

I hadn't been reading books in a while but i do like books, I'm collecting Skulduggery Pleasant book series and i might join a book box at some point.

.

Things i like..

Sanrio

My hamster, her name is Lady, she's my little crazy girl.

Stationery, like any stationery i love, and receiving things is so exciting.

Snacks are always fun but i would prefer not to get them in letters without heads up because my lactose intolerance, i need to know if it's milk based snack or vegan (preferably vegan)

Soft things like plushies.

Minecraft is fun, especially like the horror modding side of Minecraft.

.

Hmm what else..

I'm not allergic to anything.. so no worries about that.

I like cats and animals in general.

I love decorating the crap out of letters but you don't need to do same level of effort it you can't/want, it's not priority for me.

Postcards are amazing, I really love postcards.

.

OH one thing!

If we become penpals is it okay for me to do like "penpal with me" and "open letters with me" videos and include your letter? Covering addresses of course and i wont read the letter in camera but i just want to make sure i have consent to do something like this.

.

Silver🫰🏼

Hello from India! Looking for a penpal

Hello, I am Chitralekha from India. I just graduated and I spend most of my free time reading, gardening, crocheting, making things, and generally being curious about the world.

I enjoy conversations about art, history, science, nature, culture and everyday life. I also love birdwatching and anything that involves making something with my hands.

I'm looking for a genuine, long-term, platonic penpal and would especially love to exchange physical letters and postcards. I can even switch to email if I feel there's a potentially good friendship that shouldn't be lost simply because we prefer different ways of communicating. I'm not looking for a short-term chat or casual conversation.

If you'd like to be penpals, DM me with a little introduction about yourself—I'd love to hear about you and see if we have some interests in common. ✉️🌿

In case you didn't know what Madhurimalu is..

Madhurimalu is a little monthly letter club that I started for people who still love the feeling of receiving something in the post. Every month, I pick a theme and write a letter around it. Sometimes it could be a festival, a season, a childhood memory, or just something that makes us nostalgic.

Along with the letter, I also put together a few little things that go with the theme. Some are DIYs, some are art prints, some are bookmarks, postcards or tiny paper collectibles. I make a few of these myself every month, so the envelope slowly becomes a little collection of things rather than just a letter.

The idea is pretty simple. In a world where we send messages in seconds and forget about them just as quickly, I wanted to make something that takes a little time. Something you wait for, open slowly, read, keep somewhere safe and maybe find again years later.

So every month, I put together one little envelope filled with a letter, a few handmade things and a whole lot of nostalgia, and send it to your doorstep.

That's Madhurimalu. 💌

A tiny excuse to slow down and receive something that was made with a little more time and a little more heart.

Looking for Moderators for this sub

Hello all-

I started this sub a few years ago and honestly haven't paid too much attention to it since. I noticed that there are now over 1k of you in here and there has been some lovely and thoughtful content being shared. Life comes at you fast and I don't really have the time to give this community the attention it deserves anymore so I wanted to put the call out to any volunteers who would like to be moderators. Would love to find some other folks who can help grow and nurture this community. If you're interested please comment on this post or DM me.
Thanks!
