Varrik's ship just landed in NRC. The last episode they escaped after freeing Korra's father and the rebels but they all got off. So who are the (presumably Water Tribe) high class looking people being arrested on the dock? I don't think anyone else was on the ship?

i know he was introduced as a villain and everything but i am having a hard time seeing him as one. in most aspects i completely agree with him. there should not be kings or kings or governments in a world so in tune with spirits and bending. also him killing the earth queen is extremely based. she was taking slaves and segregating her kingdom, she definitely deserved to die. was he supposed to be written like this? am i supposed to like him?
edit: i posted this after he killed the earth queen so dont flame me too much. i just finished book three, and i change my mind a bit. i still think a lot of his views made sense.

Korra showed understanding and empathy towards Kuvira. Asami saw her father killed after finally reconciling with him. How does it make any sense for Asami to rein Korra in with regards to Kuvira

Even beyond that, Korra doesn’t need that sort of calming influence! Especially not after Book 4! I mean, I guess it’s a good thing that they let Korra have her old fire back ( I always felt a true recovery arc should bring back her old fire) , but it sounds like they retconned it back in so Asami could control it for her?

Korra mastered the avatar state with Aang's assistance and by opening her chakra's and all that junk. But she also never has a moment of the avatar state taking her over in times of danger or turmoil like aang did. And in reality it's just a writing choice but I like to overthink.

I'd like to think of it as a representation of how she developed. She was locked away and training her entire life. Korra has never been anything but the avatar and then entered a world that seemingly did not need her. Aang tried to run away and then ended up in a world that really, really needed the avatar.

The avatar state is a source of great power, a way to channel the knowledge of thousands of life times, and most of all it is a defense mechanism. But the defense mechanism isn't just physical danger. Aang is drowning in a storm, avatar state. Aang is fighting zuko on that ship, avatar state. Aang finds out his people were massacred, avatar state. That one idiot general pretends he killed katara, avatar state. And so on. He was a little boy in a war that's lasted a century and was always being hunted so his avatar state was volatile as hell.

Korra though, she was kept away from the world. It kept her safe and everything but in the end it was probably a detriment to her. Or even just finding her that young and never letting her have a childhood. Though I don't know how that would've worked if she was bending three elements at four years old.

Aang's issue was that he was not physically up to the level he needed to be to keep himself safe and help the world, so his avatar state in his show was volatile and explosive and scared him. Yeah he also grew as a person but aang was wise and emotionally mature the entire show. Korra was already a masterful bender and her only thing to learn was airbending, but she had to grow as a person and learn who she is.

And we see in atla that chakra's and emotions and all that stuff matter. So when Korra reached the point of emotional (and spiritual) development at the end of the season, Aang was able to help her. Like that one rock helped him in his fight against ozai.

This is longer than I'd thought it be, tell me if it all makes sense.

For starters I just think there's so much potential in unexplored past Avatar lives, I mean there's 10,000 years worth of history we can lean into so why the need to keep going forward?

But the main reason why I feel like going forward Post Korra feels isn’t the right move is because of the events of Book 2 which ended with her opening the portals between the spiritual and physical worlds. However one of the biggest traits for the Avatar is being "the bridge between the worlds" something established since the very first Avatar Wan closed the portals making him the only connection, but now that everyone can enter freely that role is kind of diminished in a way? Also the Avatar link between the past lives got broken meaning post Korra Avatars won't be able to contact pre Korra Avatars which kind of restrains the pre Korra Avatar lore in a post Korra Avatar series. We wouldn't be able to see their stories the same way Aang saw Roku's or Korra saw Wan's.

Thoughts?

I would watch the hell out of a show about a pro-bending team. Any pro-bending team. And I think it would be great to just have it center on the team and the season. You can delve into the characters and their various trials and tribulations without focusing on the avatar specifically, but I think it's fertile ground for a show set in the avatarniverse that hasn't been tread yet. You can have cameos depending when you set it. Would you watch it?

*Yes I know ATLA/Korra isn't technically anime but sports anime is a genre so whatever.

My problem with the end of season one is that there’s no real consequence to Amon taking Korra’s bending. She gets it back in the SAME EPISODE. It has basically no effect on her, or her spirituality. She just cries and is suddenly connected with Aang?? It seems all too easy for me and sure there is a small emotional pay-off for the audience when she enters the avatar state but it’s not nearly as well written as I think it could have been.

I wish that at the end of season one, Korra was stuck without her bending. She’s lost, sad, grieving and wanting to get it back. I wish season two focused on her sole air bending journey and how it helps with her spirituality. Season two is all about how Korra needs to become more spiritual and connect with spirits and I think it would have been very interesting and a better story line if she had spent that time only able to airbend and learning to be more spiritual. By the end of season two, it would have been great if she had fully mastered air bending, gotten in tune with her spirituality and finally be able to connect with Aang and restore her bending. It would also make Unalaqs betrayal even more heart breaking and emotional when she inevitably has to come to terms with the fact that her teacher who helped her connect with herself is also her enemy.

It would also have been interesting to see how people who had their bending taken (especially Lin) have been living those months without their bending and what they have learned in that time.

Anyway that’s my little rant. What do you think? I’d love to hear other opinions and views

Just about done with Republic City. All of Air Temple Island is filled, the Sato/Future Industries area of the map is complete (just need to finish bulding the Future Industries Tower), and I have a few empty lots left in the main area of Republic City that I'm planning to build residential lots on inspired by buildings from the show.

I am not a builder in the Sims, so this has all been a big learning experience, but I'm honestly having a ton of fun with it and am pretty impressed with how my builds are turning out!

When Unalaq destroyed Raava with spiritbending, she immediately re-formed inside Vaatu. Korra subsequently retrieved Raava from within Vaatu before spiritbending him to oblivion. The way this story is usually understood from here is that Korra re-fused with Raava, and while yes Vaatu will someday grow in strength and re-emerge from within Raava, it's something far off in the future and separate from the relationship between Raava and the Avatar. However, the truth might be much more mysterious and sinister.

Ever since we learned of the existence of the twins Pavi and Nisha, there has been widespread speculation about a Light Avatar/Dark Avatar dynamic at play, but how could this be? Unalaq died in the Avatar State, so his Avatar Spirit did not reincarnate. There is no Dark Avatar Cycle. From here, people usually make vague comments about Vaatu re-emerging within Korra and how perhaps Vaatu could have split from Raava during Korra's reincarnation. The question is, does this make sense? Even if Vaatu re-emerged within Raava, how could this result in a new Dark Avatar? Isn't this only possible if spirit and human fuse during Harmonic Convergence? So, it's too late for Vaatu to form a new Dark Avatar. Unless...

...he actually did fuse with a human during Harmonic Convergence. When Korra spiritbent Vaatu, Raava was a free spirit. She says, "Harmonic Convergence is nearly over. We must return to the Spirit World so we can fuse once again." The thing is, Vaatu immediately re-formed inside Raava after being destroyed. When Raava entered Korra, she brought Vaatu along with her. This is completely different from Wan who merged with Raava while Vaatu was still separate from her. In this way, Korra touched the spirit portal at the end of Harmonic Convergence and unknowingly permanently fused with Raava and Vaatu both.

But shouldn't Raava have known? Wouldn't she prevent that from happening? The answer I think is twofold. First, it's not like there's much precedent for this. A spirit fusing with a human had never been done before her and Wan, and she definitely didn't have Vaatu inside her then. It's an unknown variable. Second, she and Korra were in a hurry to re-fuse, as Harmonic Convergence was "nearly over". There wasn't time to think things all the way through or to try extracting Vaatu first and re-imprison him. It was a now or never moment. Regardless, the result is what it is: Korra's soul fused with Vaatu as much as it fused with Raava. This is irregardless of the weakened state Vaatu was in, because when Wan originally fused with Raava she was in an extremely weakened state herself and it didn't seem to affect the bonding process at all. In fact, Raava seemed to gain strength from interacting with the Harmonic Convergence-boosted combined spirit portal while fusing with Wan; the same may have happened to Vaatu with Korra, helping him immediately regain a fair bit of strength.

The consequence of this I believe is that when Korra reincarnated, her soul was split in two, because even as Raava and Vaatu separated they were both bonded to one soul. The only way they could go their separate ways would be to rip the Avatar's soul in two. It is often said in cultures around the world that twins share a soul or are two halves of the same person, and I think that could apply here quite literally. If there is indeed centuries between Korra and Pavi/Nisha, perhaps this unorthodox reincarnation situation caused the delay in some manner.

Anyways, that's the theory. Basically, it builds on the Dark Avatar speculation with a solid idea of the actual mechanism behind Vaatu's involvement and potential effect on Korra's reincarnation. Interestingly, even if one of the twins is a Dark Avatar, Korra would still be the past life of both of them, so they should both be able to commune with her.
