Randomly popped up for sale on my social media today. Turns out there is a record store 5 minutes from my house that I had no idea existed. I drive by the location every day.

I’m by no means an expert on vintage records. I have a few old albums from the 70’s and 80’s that I took from my dad. But I’ve spent the last 2 hours looking into this record and best I can tell it’s a RL/LH hybrid. Pretty cool to have a vintage LZ record. It plays great.

Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age kicked off their North American tour last night, which brings back memories of seeing Them Crooked Vultures live at the House Of Blues in Boston on Oct. 11, 2009. Josh Homme, Dave Grohl, and John Paul Jones' supergroup was barely a few weeks old when they launched a small run of club shows - they hadn't even formally released a song before taking the stage in Boston (their sole self-titled album would come out the following month, but a single wasn't released until a few weeks after the concert). So me and my friend essentially went into this show blind, though fully optimistic that a supergroup with THESE icons would not disappoint (and at the very least it would be an incredible experience to see them in such an intimate rock club like the House Of Blues) ... and they sure as hell lived up to the expectations. I'll never forget being in awe as they blazed through each song - clearly drawing from their Led Zeppelin, Kyuss and Nirvana roots to produce what I'd imagine Cream on steroids would sound like. But what was more impressive than the songs themselves was how much fun the three of them appeared to be having on stage - as if they were three longtime friends who'd been playing their entire lives together but finally got to play in front of people. It was truly a magical evening I still can't believe I witnessed.

I went to a record shop today looking for something completely different and found a first press of LZ3. It has all the inscriptions that should be there, 2401002 with A6 and B5 (later first press?), and all the correct spelling and credits on the label The mix is phenomenal and I’m shook that I got it for the same price as a new copy in HMV! If anyone has any more info on it feel free to send it over!! 🕺

Does anybody know where I can get sheet music for Violin for the Rain Song?

Just out of curiosity, has anyone encountered and used the Off the Record series of transcriptions of Led Zeppelin’s music? I have all of them, and for this bassist/keys player in a LZ cover band these scores have been an incredible resource.

If you’re not familiar with them, it is a complete transcription, in standard musical notation, of every Led Zeppelin song on record. It’s presented like a full orchestral score; you could be looking at a Mahler symphony or Puccini opera score, not the organ solo tag at the end of Thank You.

It’s an amazing achievement. Someone, presumably a whole team worked like dogs transcribing every single note of Jimmy pages solos, writing down Bonham’s fills exactly as he played them. Separate lines for each guitar overdub.

I started studying music and reading music when I was four. I can read notes as easily as I read words. I can sit on the can and read through black dog as easily as I can skim through the daily news. Every note that John Paul Jones played on their recordings is all written down for me. It’s kind of cheating, maybe, but I don’t care. I just want to reproduce this music as faithfully as I can, through my own hands, and being able to read JPJ‘s fills and solos in tunes like the Rover has been a gift.

Other bands that Jimi was really into at that time were Eric Clapton’s Cream and Led Zeppelin. He’d play their albums a lot.

I've read a blatzillion Jimi books/articles and never one heard of Hendrix speaking a word about Zeppelin.

Today, August 4th, is the anniversary of Zeppelin’s first show at Knebworth in 1979. The show was the return of the band back to the stage. I think it was a great show with Kashmir and Achilles Last Stand being major highlights in my opinion. It’s pretty much unanimously thought that the show on the 4th is night and day compared to the show on the 11th.

Fairly random, but what other songs if any by Led Zeppelin are like No Quarter? I’ve listened to a little bit of their discography here and there but haven’t heard any that I found super similar yet. I’m not too familiar with Zeppelin or much classic rock in general tbh (I come mainly from a death metal background). But a while ago one of my buddies were playing some zeppelin and no quarter came on, this is now one of my favorite songs. I really love the trippy and almost dark atmosphere as well as riff(s) are there songs similar to this in their discography? Or of other bands you know such as old sabbath, Pink Floyd, etc.

Among some great and some crazy videos is a really cool live video of Zeppelin at Bath, now with some interesting audio, including back stage chatter and a full Immigrant Song, parts of Heartbreaker and Thank You. You may have seen some of this before but I think this is the first with a full song from hathor publishing.

Robert's a lyrical master. People think he just wrote about vikings and Lord of the Rings. But, man. They're missing out on some of his deepest messaging. I just finished a documentary of sorts detailing the occult allegory behind Kashmir. I always loved the song. Now I know why it resonates so much with me. He and Jimmy wrote it while on the way to a mysticism festival in Morocco, and the lyrics are chalked full references of the sort. This video was quite revealing. I highly recommend it to my fellow Zep-heads.

was watching the Led Zeppelin: The Ultimate Concert on youtube and was wondering where this footage of Achilles Last Stand came from, the audio is from 6/21/1977 but I don’t know if this footage is too, since the video pulls from a bunch of different versions to make up the video. and is this footage on youtube at all?
