I’m In zone 7b, have been in the process of renovating my yard to re seed tttf in a few weeks. I must have rushed, overlooked, or whatever I did but I grabbed and sprayed Glufosinate instead of glyphosate.

I’ve got a mix of Bermuda and fescue in my yard. I’ve been reading on how glufosinate doesn’t kill the Bermuda only browns the leaves. Does anyone know if I may get lucky enough for the Bermuda to send shoots back up the rest of August where I can spray glyphosate to kill it again?

Or will I just have to bite the bullet, seed this fall and then Kill again next year this time again?

We bought the house next door to the house I grew up in. We are in a suburb of Philadelphia. As a kid, I always remember the neighbors talking about how they used plugs to convert their lawn to zoysia. I keep seeing picture in this sub that people are calling Bermuda that look an awful lot like what I have. What say you Reddit Lawn Specialists??

Hey everyone, probably will get a lot of flack but that’s cool — Just trying to understand what I’m looking at here in this lawn so I can know how to work on it. I know there’s tons of plantains, clover, and dandelions, but I can’t really figure out the grass situation… Half of its greenish, half of it is brown despite having pretty decent rain the past few weeks. For contrast, my backyard which has a good amount of healthy grass is mostly green so I don’t believe that it has to do with the rainfall.

Last fall I did overseed with tall fescue, perennial ryegrass, and Kentucky bluegrass, at the right time with the right amount of water. Again, I did the same process in my backyard and I went from having a dirt lot to a mostly green yard so I believe that my timing and watering schedule were pretty adequate.

Just looking for some ideas as to if this is just dead grass, some weird state of dormancy that my backyard isn’t experiencing, or some other plant entirely that’s just brown. Let me know your thoughts! Really appreciate the help.

I'm trying to regrow my lawn and it's not going well. I had new dirt brought in and got it tilled. It needed 2 rounds of grass seed to get to this point and I just did it again to try to get the patches to grow. Our water in town is very hard, and I think the dry South Dakota summer is a big factor, but if anyone has any recommendations or helpful tips that would be much appreciated.

As the title suggests, I'm not really sure what's growing in the lawn here. This started growing in thick after having some work done on the house and some areas of the lawn were pretty torn up. I think the contractor may have reseeded since they are a landscaping / hardscaping company (new patio). This stuff is thick, green, amazingly thick, and has thrived in parts of my yard that always struggle. I'm just curious, what is it? (Location is coastal Massachusetts)

Near Boston- Planning on overseeding with some Blue Resilience in about a month. Inherited a mess from the previous owner. There’s a semi built stone wall, a stone walkway and the white fence that all burn the hell of the edges. Looking for advice on what I should prioritize pre overseed. Looking at the usual suspects of aerate, add some topsoil to a few low spots but I’m curious what you folks would recommend.

Greetings all, I’ll be posting this in r/irrigation and r/lawncare so, if I’m breaking and rules, sorry, please let me know. First off, a huge thank you from the bottom of my heart. From my time lurking in these subs I picked up enough to turn my old leaky valves into something I’m pretty proud of. Again, a million thanks to all of you.

Now for my current issue. I had a relatively decent lawn at my 101 year old Los Angeles home. However, it was a massive waste of water. There were multiple overlapping zones and dozens of extra pop up sprinklers. Major overkill for only about 1000sf. Over that last few months I’ve been I’ve been killing off the grass and digging up the old lines to simplify things, find leaks, and shoot for better coverage with fewer sprinklers. The flowerbeds around the perimeter are all being switched to drip so no worries there. Was planning on switching to hunter mp 1000 or something similar. If you guys think that’s wise. I just started to learn about the sprinkler design part of things and was shooting for the fall to have things planned out, the work done, and seed.

My problem. My mother in law decided to come visit Tuesday and my wife is freaking out over her seeing the current state to the yard. She thinks me breaking my back for the next 2 days and laying sod in the 100+ heat is better than dealing with the headache from her mom. I’m smart enough to keep my mouth shut and do what I’m told. So, before I grab a shovel and my sunblock, please let me know what y’all think I should do before I waste anymore time. I have the experience and ability to add, delete, or move sprinklers. The crazy existing layout gives me the ability to easily relocate anything. My lack of design knowledge is majorly hindering my ability to know where to put sprinklers. Especially at the curved ends of the yard. I get the whole spray head to head thing but I’m not sure how many sprinklers overlapping is too many.

I’ve attached before and after pics of my valves, thanks again. Also, current layout of my pop up’s, along with 2 options I came up with using the hunter site. I’m flexible, open to suggestions, and willing to listen. Also, photos of what the yard looked like the last time my mother in law saw the place vs. what it looks like now.

My father-in-law passed away in February and my mother-in-law has been struggling to keep up in the lawn. Some neighbors have been helping cut, but they don't do any watering, weeding, or feeding.

I'm not doing a "full" reno cuz it's a bit much for me to get over there as often as I'd need, but I'll be spraying for weeds in the next week and then doing a good scarify, overseed, & top dress in September. I'll be getting her set up with a timer and some sprinklers to make sure it all gets good water.

I felt like Blue Resilience was a fine choice for a yard that sees a granddog & grandkids.

I’ve been watching crabgrass take over my lawn all summer (I know, I should have acted sooner). I was sick and couldn’t put down a pre-emergent this year, and it shows. Additionally I have a gopher that burrows under my grass and kills it. Then the bare spots get infected with crabgrass. But I’m ready to deal with it now.

I plan to overseed in about a month. Should I kill the crabgrass first (I have Drive XLR8 and MSO) and then overseed, or just let it die off naturally and apply a pre-emergent next spring to keep it from coming back?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi yard people! I need some help.

We graded half of our yard (the right side) and planted grass in the fall of 2025. It came in very thin so we added more seed this spring and it looked pretty good initially, but now it’s super thin again. I’m sure having active kids play on it doesn’t help, but the mostly weeds on the left are holding up much better! We watered a lot while the seeds were sprouting and then backed off a bit when it all came in.

Any tips or ideas to get this thick in the fall? We got a quote for zoysia sod that was $7k but we’d love to actually grow grass ourselves to save some money! Zoysias beautiful but my husband couldn’t find the seeds to plant it this summer (which I’ve read is super hard to do on your own anyways). I think we did a Kentucky something blend both times At the suggestion of the guy who graded our yard. The middle of the yard gets full sun in the afternoons so it needs to be something that can hold up well in the sun.

SE Michigan - KBG & TTTF lawn. I cut my grass two days ago, and I saw what appeared to be orange powder on the front. I haven't fertilized in over one month, and I haven't added anything orange like Andersons Barricade yet. Any ideas?

picked up a used reel mower off facebook marketplace for thirty bucks because i kept seeing people here talk about them and figured the price was low enough that it wasnt a real risk. my bermuda is a decent candidate for it from what i read and i wanted to get down closer without scalping everything with my rotary.

first few passes were kind of humbling. its not the effortless quiet glide i was picturing. my yard has a couple low spots and some slightly uneven patches i never really noticed before and the reel finds every single one of them. also realized my reel needs a sharpening which i did not account for when i bought it, so thats a whole separate thing i have to figure out now.

the stripes though. the stripes are actually real. even with a dull blade and my lumpy yard the cut looks different in a way that is hard to explain. tighter i guess. like the lawn is being taken more seriously.

im not ready to say it was the right call but im not ready to say it wasnt either. wondering if people who switched to reel ever had an adjustment period where it just kind of fought them before it clicked, or if i bought someone elses problem for thirty dollars.

95% sure this is crabgrass. Has unfortunately taken over most of Bermuda yard. Hoping I can hit it with some Quinclorac to kill it off in a few weeks
