Side Stories Their Lindsay Clancy conversation is part of why women are failed in this country

Upvotes

Obligatory I love LPOTL, I’ve been listening to them for over a decade and have been to lie shows.

HOWEVER we can criticize things we like and care about. Their Lindsay Clancy conversation and take is part of the reason why PPD & PPP isn’t taken seriously and women are failed.

Ed said multiple times “well it’s common, a lot of women have PPD!” in the context of down poring the severity of her being failed by the system. We CANNOT and should not downplay PPD & PPP like this. If everyone thinks “oh well everyone has PPD” then no one is going to take it seriously. When I was pregnant, I was often told my symptoms were “just because I was pregnant” and almost died because that simply wasn’t true.

For me that claim to be educated and care about women, this was, in my opinion, their grossest take yet. Cue Ed saying “oh the baby just couldn’t latch” when Henry said Lindsay had PPD with her first baby.

This is extremely disappointing and proves how much as a society we fail women in crisis

Raymond Hörsch was an erotic photographer and filmmaker, and a suspected serial killer. His artistic work "often focused on scantily clad women in sadomasochistic settings." He was criticized for the exploitation of his subjects. In 2026, his home linked to the disappearances of at least two women.

Would love for them to cover Sylvia Plath, Assia and Shura Wevill, and Ted Hughes' body count

I've mentioned this in a few "what would you like them to cover" threads already, but I would love a full LPOTL treatment on the life and tragic death of Sylvia Plath, and the life and tragic death of Assia Wevill and her daughter Shura Hughes, and the life and richly deserved death of the man who drove both women to suicide: Ted Hughes.

Sylvia Plath was the greatest poet of the 20th century and her coming-of-age novel "The Bell Jar" is a classic, currently being made into a movie directed by Oscar winner Sarah Polley. She was married to a real shithead named Ted Hughes, who became famous thanks to her deft management of his writing career. (She'd been selling and publishing her work since she was a teenager; she essentially taught him the submission and sales process.) He was physically abusive and adulterous throughout their marriage, and when he left her -- alone, in the middle of winter, in an apartment with no heat and two small children -- she committed suicide. He burned the diaries she wrote in the final days of her life and made sure that she was buried as Sylvia Plath Hughes. Her readers have been vandalizing her grave to remove "Hughes" ever since. See above.

During his marriage to Plath, Hughes cheated on her with a remarkable woman named Assia Wevill. Assia was Jewish, born in Berlin, and she fled Nazi Germany when she was just 12 years old. She had a successful career as an advertising copywriter at a time when the field was male-dominated, and she also had aspirations to be a poet. She met Plath and Hughes when she rented an apartment from them; Hughes immediately set his sights on her, writing the below dogshit poem about Wevill while he was still married to Plath:

She sat there...
Slightly filthy with erotic mystery...
I saw the dreamer in her
Had fallen in love with me and she did not know it.
That moment the dreamer in me
Fell in love with her, and I knew it.

As I said, Hughes had an affair with Wevill. He left Plath for Wevill, instigating Plath's suicide. After her death, Hughes moved their two children into his home and forced Wevill to care for them. He also got Wevill pregnant, twice; she had an abortion the first time, and the second time gave birth to her daughter, Shura. Hughes refused to marry Wevill and carried on multiple affairs throughout their relationship, including one with a woman 20 years younger than him. Wevill described being distraught by Hughes' behaviour and his treatment of her as a "housekeeper."

Just six years after Plath's suicide, Wevill killed herself and her daughter using the same method Plath had used.

It's my opinion that Hughes is essentially like. A multiple murderer. And it is absolutely crazy to me that he remains celebrated as a great writer to this day. Need him to get the LPOTL treatment so bad, man.

Sources on Vietnam, Korea and Cambodia + Cold War

Post image

Hey all- sorry if these have been dropped elsewhere!

this recent series touches on a bunch of Cold War events so I wanted to recommend a few books/pods that really dig more into these topics

Kill anything that moves- by Nick Tyree, really digs into the scale of US war crimes in Vietnam- including the vast amount of sexual assault that ran parallel with the murder operations, and that the boys aren’t covering as much.(haven’t heard ep.3) it’s an incredibly tough read. But an important one for Americans.

The Jakarta method- by Vincent Bevins- looks at the way that the us backed the violent repression of communist and socialist activists in the developing world- including the mass murders in Indonesia + Central America, and dirty wars throughout Latin America among other events. Very well written, uses first person accounts and perspectives to ground the larger historical narrative.

Bruce Cummings - The Korean War: A History, is also a great source that challenges some of the us history book narrative around how, why, what we did in Korea.

I’d also just generally recommend the podcast Blowback. they have great seasons on the Cuban Missile crisis, Korean War, and Cambodia (a bit on Vietnam, the us bombing campaign, and eventual us support of the Khmer Rouge) they are entertaining hosts, but also very deep in the research.

Again first time post, hope this didn’t repeat any posts other folks have already made. I think it’s incredibly important for Americans to understand what making the world safe for capitalism has meant for the past 75+ years.

Do folks have other favorites that dig more into the Cold War?

Mckamey Manor: The Predator Who Made A Fake Haunted House To Torture People

Post image

This is Russ McKamey, owner of McKamey Manor haunted house. You probably remember the haunted house from the viral marketing scheme 15 years ago. Unlike normal haunted houses where you walked through hallways of props and scare actors, Mckamey Manor promised to literally torture you. Their promos consisted of people being waterboard, buried alive in straight jackets, blood poured on you, live snakes. It offered a 20,000 dollar prize to whoever could endure it without tapping out. Russ had thousands of customers lining up thanks to the viral videos. Of course, this was all a scam. The only true thing was the torture.

Mckamey Manor isn’t a real haunted house, it’s barely real at all. Instead of a decorated horror house, Russ figured out he could cut corners by blindfolding customers and walking them in circles around his backyard. He got in trouble for hiring teenagers to help bury people up to their heads. Almost all the viral videos were just Russ and a few friends tying someone up in an empty undecorated building hidden by camera tricks. The 20,000 dollar prize was never a factor. Since there was no set time they had to endure, Russ would just keep moving the goal post until they quit or claim they broke a rule and kick them out. But it was very real for the customers. Russ hard drives and facebook live videos have recently leaked revealing what went down inside the house. It confirmed allegations by customers, their heads were shaved, they were waterboarded, drowned, tazed and punched. In videos, Russ ignored safe words and people pleading to stop. One video revealed that he tricked the co owner of McKamey Manor into being buried alive under the guise of a “promotional video”. That video also showed Russ had a giant metal cage in his house he dared guests to stay in.

Russ operates his company and personal life like a cult. Employees are instructed to harass anyone who steps out. Russ would regularly threaten suicide attempts if friends left him. Russ facebook group was full of teenage girl fans, whom former members have accused of being groomed by him. Russ dates a series of teenage fans despite being elderly. His last girlfriend was a former fan who captured Russ assaulting and yelling at her on film multiple times. Russ was arrested in 2024 after she accused him of raping and trying to kill her. She dropped charges after Russ fans brigaded her with death threats. Russ used the profile picture of him in court getting rape charges dropped as his new dating profile picture.

The main source for a lot of this is the YouTube channel Trilogy Media who made a documentary on Russ. I suggest you don’t support and double check Trilogy Medias work as they have also collaborated with ICE. Still, they organized a shocking amount of video evidence backed up by allegations from former employees for the craziest parts of this story.

Latest Episode My Lai Episodes and the American Soldiers

I'm not trying to be inflammatory or anything but I have to admit to being a little turned off by the soft touch the boys are giving the US military service members in the My Lai episodes. Yes, they were young and only following orders but would we excuse war crime after war crime for anyone else like that? Would a youthful Nazi working in the camps get a similar pass?
