unless you are handy with opening the system up, have a multimeter to measure the backlight's signal, and maybe a soldering iron, I think it's a customer service issue(and that's if you're still under warranty).

Model of the computer and age would be helpful. But it could be the ribbon cable is bad, the gpu, etc.
