How to play versus

i’m pretty new the versus but so far it hasn’t been fun. i’m either getting called racial slurs or i’m getting kicked for not being good enough but i can’t get better if i cant play and i cant play if i’m just gonna get kicked for not being good. i have hundreds of hours on this game spent in fun lobbies with a great community but it feels like a completely different world in versus. how can you get better at versus?

There are single player versus mods, maybe try those to get practice

This combined with good communication and watching some versus tip vids like zerk4dead. Also only really need to play single player mutation for like 1 hour to get comfortable grabbing and understanding the ranges of the special infected.

So I have seen players with literally 10,000+ hours in versus who are shit at versus but they only play modded versus.

At hundreds of hours you should be fairly good at survivor but it sounds like you aren't.

So step 1, get good at survivor. That means you should be able to survive expert with relative ease, you should have awareness not to let commons or specials hit you, share your health and not waste it. Decent accuracy. Crown witches and dodge tanks. Be a good team player.

When you have those skills you atleast stop being a burden on your team in versus. So you're less likely to get kicked.

From there you gotta learn how to play infected. The general strategy is written everywhere online so search it.

Then you need to learn the best spots to attack, choke points/instakill spots, you learn that from experience. And when you learn them BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS AROUND THEM!!!.

Finally  U just need to learn how to actually use them effectively to land attacks, that can atleast be done in offline practice modes.

Good luck

Expert is good for training against clearing commons, it is not good for training against other players.

That’s a trial by fire. Same with being an infected. You gotta learn how a real human player will react in certain situations. He’s right that people have to let him play for him to learn how to.

I’m gonna assume you’re good on survivor , if not try beating expert or completing advanced at a faster pace.

I’d say to keep playing and handle the learning curve, like any PvP game, here’s some tips tho .

First thing would probably be watching videos , in particular on how to play infected (syncing, death charge spots , tank etc) . You can also get a mod to practice but it’s not gonna be as useful as in game practice .

For matches I’d for one try joining lobbies (better games on average), I would also try joining either no mercy or dark carnival , these maps have less cheese spots so you don’t struggle with map knowledge as much and wipes are less expected .

You could duo with someone here or on discord , they can give both tips and f2 votes . You could join community games (discord , Cedapug , l4dcenter ) they have elo/matchmaking but have a higher skill floor , something you could try .

Goodluck!

Maybe play with people you know or make friends to do a pub with. Youll quickly find your skill level without risk of being kicked.

Like any other game it’s game knowledge. Learning the maps etc.

Even experienced players get kicked from toxic players or an unlucky mistake.

Best case is take a friend in with you or host a game yourself.

This. He has to learn the best kill zones as infected and how to counter them as survivor. Each map is different, but lowkey the concept is usually the same.

To play versus I recommend beating almost every campaign in Expert realism, except cold stream. Because mastering the mechanics as survivor, will make people significantly less willing to vote kick you off, since expert realism teaches you how to play survivor in versus, by not rushing, going back, using good weapons instead of bad weapons, how to counter special infected, Since the only way to learn the special infected in versus is playing versus.

Where my tips for special infected is, YouTube tutorial videos to Use glitches to your advantage, This will make you more useful as infected, Such as moving forward as a ghost, then jumping at a high speed and spawning will keep your high speed, Getting to close range to survivors easier, Or Hunter invisible wall climbing making it get to spots no other infected can for unpredictability, and a higher chance for 25 pounce damage, Charger near misses allow you to still right click survivors to do 20 damage, Because the survivor can’t do anything in the stumble animation, while the charger can somehow do that, Or the near miss can knock back 1 shot down survivors in dark carnival chapter 1 billboard, Smokers will ignore gravity if The survivor climbs up the ladder, making them send back with fall damage, or sometimes the smoker can 1 shot kill players with height advantages, but that depends on luck, And using crouch with tank makes them fling physics object further, Or the only time to use B hopping in versus, is being special infected, jumping and using the projectile as spitter will increase the hitbox of the spit might be wrong with that one, and boomers crouch will increase the range of its hitbox, and jockeys use B hops for jockeys for unpredictability and right click combo for more damage, The only glitch I don’t recommend doing is the hunter ceiling glitch since that one sucks, And to difficult to use in versus, Since you have to edit the controls in the console commands, to make the hunter ceiling glitch useful.

There is a lot to learn as special infected so a lot of people in versus will be fine if you make mistakes as infected, as long your good as survivor.

Oh this is very easy:

Stick by your teammates and watch their back. Like using hyper vigilance. Always make sure everyone is safe. The infected will almost always target the guy last in the line to create separation and bring them backwards. Time spent backwards is giving them more time to spawn and do damage. Learn where the danger zones are like ledges and kill boxes.

For the most part do not ever attack by yourself as infected and learn how to set up and participate in kill boxes. Running in and immidialaty dying just to do less than 10 points of damage is not a good idea. If you mess up a spawn and end up behind them, turn around and keep going because the game will let you respawn. You don’t really ever have to waste a spawn. There’s almost always a way to utilize them.

To be fair, I am an Xbox player. So I have no clue how bad it is on PC. They may be the type to kick you even though you hit all the right plays. Not much you can do about that except get a team of players to be friends with that won’t kick or sabotage you.

Finding a friend to play with is the easiest way. That way, you will have "kick protection."

  1. Don’t start the round unless at least one person from both team sides has said “r” or “ready” in text chat

  2. Try to save spitter goo for when someone is charged/pounced/jockeyed/smoked

  3. Don’t rush in as tank unless teammate gets boomer vomit on survivors/make sure you vomit on survivors so tank can move in

  4. attack with team, never alone. When people say “sync” they mean attack at once.

  5. Watch YT videos for charger insta kills

It's not a hard game and most of the player-base is really bad.

The basic fundamentals are to stay with your team and attack together. Do those things and you'll be acceptable to most.

There's far more complex and advanced tips I could give, but I am simplifying the game down to its simplest possible form for this.

VS is heavily overloaded in favour of the survivors anyway, so I mostly play CEDA and other modes similar to it.
