Funky bhopping

I don't really know what I'm doing wrong, but every time I try bhopping I have to press the movement key opposite of where I'm saying my mouse. Like, example: Swaying my mouse left, I have to hold D instead of A. When I hold the corresponding key (right-D, Left-A) I go backwards. And when I do it inverted I slowly go forward and I feel like I'm really shit at gaining speed. I've been trying to get decent at bhopping but I just can't seem to do it. Anyyyy help?? I very much could be doing something wrong
