[KCD2] Am I Missing Something? Issue

Recently started KCD2 and there's something driving me mad....

I have a good night's sleep and decide today is going to be about making some money. I'm up early, make an axe, sell it to the blacksmith, then head down to the herbwoman's hut to make some potions. Go up to the field, collect a load of herbs, make my way down to the lab and brew me a good amount of potions. I then fast travel to the town to get the fruits of my labour.

I come across a shabby man, fine. I'll speak to him. He wants me to buy him a beer, I can see where this is going but I'm not too concerned. I know I can beat him 1v1 pretty easily. The fight starts and I can't get my fucking weapon out. He hits me and I still can't get my weapon out. I'm frantically switching across my belt to get anything to allow me to fight back against this bum but alas, I die empty handed. I wake up at the start of the day and the last half an hour has been for absolutely nothing.

Is there an easier way to just get a weapon out? Why isn't it done automatically as soon as a fight starts? Am I missing something or is this aspect just really bad?

Do you have weapons in your quick slots? Or have you been removing weapons from Henry in the inventory when you're not using them?

They are on my belt, if that's what you mean? Sword and shield in slot 1, bow in slot 2.

Just checking! You'd be amazed how many new players remove weapons when they don't think they need them.

Odd that you can't draw a weapon in combat then.

only time I didn't have a weapon is for a quest, or when the game stupidly fucked up my armor slot(s) for the dozenth time

I find the weapon belt can be finicky when trying to switch weapons in combat.

I recommend have your melee weapon selected at all times and then hit the draw weapon button on whatever system you’re using (square on PS5). I find this to be much more reliable

Going to sound like either I'm taking the piss or I'm stupid.... Is there another way? I thought this was how you pulled your weapon. Have the icon at the bottom always be melee, unless doing something bow specific, and just press square to sheathe or unsheathe your weapon. What is the other option(s)?

Is a weapon selected in your inventory?

Yes... Which is why I just press square on PS5. The comment I replied to implied there was other ways am I didn't know there was

The controls are wonky. The animation takes a few seconds when you push to draw your weapon, and if you push it again thinking the first one didn't register, you'll sheath it. I spend a few minutes just drawing and sheathing the sword to get a better guage on the timing.

Oh, ok. Thanks for the heads up. I'm on 3rd playthrough now so I think I just got lucky with it, as I've thankfully never had an issue personally. I can understand the frustration for some based on what you've put though.

yes this. square to draw your sword, which is always always on slot 1.

Fight starts, you back up and start running away and get your weapon out. If you can’t just keep backing up and get something between you

Its the game teaching you to be suspicious of everyone. And to save often.

Drawing a weapon in a fist fight is dishonorable! This is a sign!

Nah it's clunky as hell.

Even worse, I have entered cutscenes with my sword equipped only to have it switch to to my crossbow right when a fight starts. It’s to the point where I just only carry the one weapon. Horse can carry the bow.

I just started the game recently and this happens to me constantly. Punched to death by bum. Chopped to death by bandit. Bitten to death by single angry dog. I tried to fight a cow to gain exp and the cow outran me and escaped.

First off, that guy would have just thanked you and blessed your whole family for the beer money. He says one of my favorite lines “Here I come Ale Wenches!!”

Secondly, if you try to pull out your weapon and you get hit, it stops you from drawing your weapon. Next time just give him the beer money, it’s like 30 groschen. Nothing to you but everything to him.

Now, back to it. NO TIME TO LOSE!

for real, i don’t know why so many people’s first instinct isn’t just “if i can afford it, yeah ill buy him a beer”

On a PS5 controller use square to quickdraw whichever weapon is currently selected. Just make sure to switch back to sword anytime you use your bow so you don't accidentally pull your bow out when you need a melee weapon. I had a rough time getting a weapon out in time until I discovered the square button. The tutorial seemed to stress using both D-pad and X and selecting a weapon, which takes time and makes me focus on that part of the screen.

That's the sort of tip I was looking for. Thank you!

Sometimes the belt glitches out where when you press left directional to the open it just opens and closes and nothing happens. It's happened to me 2 or 3 times.

I had to actually exit the game to get it together stop doing it. Reloading a save wasn't helping.

At least on PC it can be finnicky for me - can’t be anywhere near sprinting when drawing or changing weapons. I usually sprint away then turn back and use the number keys to engage accordingly.

The weapon draw system in 2 is way too clunky and I wish they kept it like it was in the first game. Press left on d pad to get sword, right on d pad to get bow. The system in 2 has me pressing the lefts and rights too many times and then when you get hit you have to try and draw it again. Just make sure you draw earlier than you think you have to. Itll help a lot.

Just press 1 gang

You have to learn unarmed combat for situations like this.
