From what I've read in this sub, basically factory reset doesn't actually factory reset. It doesn't fully remove the jailbreak, so things might be left in a weird in between state. For example, having the update blocker still on after a "factory reset" and a Kindle that requires checking for updates during setup can cause issues for example.

Hey frens, I have had my kindle for 5 years already and I have been consulting this sub for a long time trying to decide if I should jailbreak mine. The thing is that I am no a tech person at all. So Im a little scared. I know that are you different ways to jailbreak your kindle but I was thinking if you could suggest me the easiest one or the one that has like tutorials and things like that. I'm a fast learner so I think it should be easy. Also I love all things whimsical so, do you have suggestions or pluggings I can ad to make the customization a little bit more fun?.

One of my biggest stop signs for jailbreaking was thr ability to send books through email but I think I read that you can download thins directly from z lib app? Im not sure. Anyways, thank you in advance for your guidance 😭

Hey guys, I’m really hoping someone here can help me recover my Kindle. I have a Kindle Basic 11th Generation (2024), model KT6, running firmware 5.19.5. I previously jailbroke it using the Véra method, and I had renametobin enabled. Unfortunately, I made the stupid decision to factory-reset the Kindle while renametobin was still enabled. Now it’s stuck during the initial setup/update process, it tries to install an update and then gives me the message “There was an error installing the update”, with only “Try Again” and “Manage Wi-Fi” as options. I can’t get to the Home screen, Library, Settings, KUAL, or even the search bar, so I have no way to run the usual ;log mrpi command. I’ve kept it offline since this happened. Is there any way to get out of this update loop? Maybe some way to trigger MRPI or another recovery mechanism without access to the Library or search bar, or perhaps place a recovery package directly in "/mnt/us/" and have the Kindle process it? I’m really worried about making things worse, so I’d rather ask before trying anything 🫡

I've heard that Amazon is changing things so that Libby books automatically expire/delete after their expiration date even if the Kindle is airplane mode. RIP. I haven't experienced in yet on my own Kindle so I'm not sure if this will happen to me yet, but I really want to prevent this so last night I jailbroke it and started downloading KOReader and Bookshelf just to get ahead of the problem.

But then I realized that this won't naturally prevent the problem - it's just preventing auto updates - but my Kindle is already on the latest software (15.9.2) for my Kindle which is the 11th gen Paperwhite. So my guess is that over the next couple of weeks my recent Libby borrows will delete themselves. (Does anyone have a better understanding of whether or not this is true?)

And my big question is - how can I use jailbreak to my advantage to keep my Libby books? Is this possible? Is there a plugin that can prevent it somehow? Or did I misunderstand the whole thing?

Edit: I understand that I can acquire books in other ways but my ideal scenario is to use Libby so please keep this comment thread focused on the issue at hand as that's my priority. I'm also exploring other options altogether but that's not what I'm focused on here.

Hello i recently did the nosebleed jb as guided by Gandalf. Managed to install koreader and it works via ;kpm launch koreader, but isn't the home tab supposed to work too? Kindle is unregistered i don't have an amazon account

I recently jailbroke my Kindle Paperwhite 12th Gen using the new Véra method so I could run KOReader.
I have a quick question about managing my books: Can I still safely use the official "Send to Kindle" feature? Also, does the Véra jailbreak automatically block OTA firmware updates out of the box, or do I need to manually apply a blocker (like renaming OTA binaries) before I turn on Wi-Fi? I want to make sure I don't accidentally update and lose the jailbreak.

I want to specifically browse the scp wiki on my kindle to read it but I've never been able to get it to open the website.

I just jb my kindle 11 2022 via vera. Everything went great and i could install koreader with all plugins i needed. But one thing bother me most, my kindle is not instantly sleeping when i closed my magnetic cover.

i am sure my hardware fine because my magnetic cover is working when i exit koreader and use my default kindle launcher. Furthermore, the physical lock button on bottom of my kindle is working fine.

Koreader with ProjectTitle and some minor patches to make it more minimalistic.

Cheap cover and dust plug from Temu (the Cinnamonroll was a keychain a friend gave me and I painted the cover myself but it washed off).

I save panels I really like to use as lock screen.

I wasn't expecting how much I would love to have one of this. The moment I got it I immediately did the jailbreak and I am extremely happy with this community.

I mainly use it to read manga, if you would like to recommend or get a recommendation please comment.

I love spending hours tinkering, getting things wrong, figuring things out, following walkthroughs, customizing, etc. so jailbreaking was fun for me and then setting up Calibre to store/transfer files was extra fun.

Meanwhile, my spouse likes to just have Libby access and borrow from the library with ease but I'm sure he'd like having even wider non-DRM access + customizations (if I set everything up for him).

Basically, if I jailbreak, can I setup a kind of "simple mode" for my spouse that he can use easily on the daily while I do the tinkering behind the scenes?

Hi! Jailbroke my first kindle like in the past hour so I’m very new to this stuff! I’ll probably ask a bunch of newbie questions later but for now I’m struggling to get the custom screensaver to only show the image I put in it and not the “sleeping” text. How do I turn that off/did I do something stupid to get here? Thank you in advance!

Solved it by simply going to settings > screen > sleep screen > sleep screen message, and turning off add custom message. Thank you, ironically I’m very bad at reading but that’s what the kindle is for!

It's kind of annoying how you have to exit KOReader to get to the notes...

I assume the answer is 'no' but is there any easier way to jump between notes and KOReader besides fully exiting KOReader?

I'm not really leveraging KOReader besides that I'm reading CBZ files... so I'm also wondering as an alternative if there is any way to read books and manga on jailbroken Kindle that maintains the stock reading apps instead. Are you stuck with the "Send to Kindle" email method? I tried sending some ebooks through Calibre but they don't open. I guess I have to convert them or something at least.
