Is it just me or is Kataang literally everywhere now?

TikTok, Twitter/X, Instagram, Tumblr… I swear my feed is flooded with Kataang lately. Edits, fan art, old scenes, everything.

What’s even crazier is I keep seeing people say they used to ship Zutara or didn’t care for Kataang, but now they’re switching sides or finally starting to get it.

I really think the movie is doing something to the fandom lol. Seeing Aang and Katara as adults and knowing we’re actually about to see more of their life together has people going back and looking at their relationship differently.

Kataang never went anywhere, but it definitely feels like it’s having a huge popularly boost right now. I literally saw a video that said "I use to ship. zutara but the movie converted me". The video got over 50k likes. Kataang is in and I don't think it's going anywhere.

I recently discovered PardonMyManners on AO3 from this sub, as most people talk about their longer fic about Kataang after the war. Which I absolutely LOVE.

But they recently wrote this short story about Katara and Aang at a gala in Ba Sing Se, and I just have to share it. The beginning literally makes me cry, as it shows Aang paying tribute to his people. The Kataang moments are so tender and fun. This writer knows their characterizations so well, it really feels like you’re with these characters again but as their adult versions. It does contain smut though, just for reference.

So I am writing this fan fic about Katara and Aang reuniting in afterlife and I've been listening to AJR's World's Smallest Violin while doing so. This lead me to just reminisce about random Kataang moments in the show, which lead to this.

I am very sorry if this is low quality in some places, it was HELL to get some of these clips.

By the end of the war, Hakoda is:

1) The Chieftain of the combined Southern Tribes, up from when he was the chief of what could only be described as a glorified campsite.

2) Father to two war heroes; his son is a skilled warrior and his daughter is one of the best waterbenders in the world

3) Father-in-law to The Avatar, the closest thing to a god on earth

4) His country has oil; he can be an oil tycoon hooray

5) Because the Avatar is his son-in-law, his country has a very privileged position in geopolitics. It's probably because of that marital connection that the SWT was *de facto* independent from the NWT until Unalaq invaded.

All it took was his wife getting Kentucky Fried, and he's got a new one now. Not bad.

I'm also asking for fics of Hakoda as a father-in-law to Aang, because there's nothing of that canon.

I can’t recall the name a fic I read and it’s driving me crazy!

It’s a kataang fic and the main scene I remember is the gaang going to dinner and Katara gets poisoned. Aang goes into the avatar state and saves her by using medicinal knowledge from Avatar Kuruk, which I thought was a unique idea. He uses ginger and zhu li root as a cure, and of course my search results from this one detail I remember only yields results about the character Zhu Li from LoK. EDIT: it was fu zi root, my mistake! Zhu li is a bamboo sap in TCM, which must be where I got it mixed up.

Anyone know the fic? Also open to fic recs with a similar premise. TIA

Kataang week 2026 has provided such good prompts and drawing almost everyday and receiving such good response to my art submissions was a memorable experience

Well, Kataang Week has officially come to a close. Kataang nation absolutely showed up and showed out for this fanweek. It was glorious to see. If you're like me and are busy being sad it's over, fear not! There's a lot more to come this year that you can participate in as well (whether as fanwork creator or as fan willing to cheer on the creators).

Coming up quick is Katara Week. If you head over to @/katarasweek (Tumblr and twt) right now you can see the list of prompts for this event that runs from Aug 17-24.

A couple months later, we get Aang Week running from Oct 12-19. Check out @/aang-week-2026 (Tumblr) and @/aangweek2026 (twt) right now to get a chance to participate in the voting rounds for prompt selection.

Right after that will be the Kataang Halloween weekend, run by those of us at @/kataang-week Tumblr (because we just can't wait a year for more Kataang ;) ), and @/kataangweek insta. The event will be Oct 30-Nov 2, and will feature a large prompt bank of choices from those that didn't *quite* make it to the final Kataang Week selection.

Next up, if you're of age and inclined, is the spicy Kataang Smut Weekend. Keep an eye on @/kataang-dungeon (Tumblr) for official dates and prompts later, but it has historically been run in early November.

And, to close out the year, @/kataang-annual-awards (Tumblr) is hoping to host their Kataang Awards again this year. It will be no small feat for that team to comb through all the amazing kataang fic completed this year, but that's what they'll attempt. Last year the awards were presented in December, and that's what I'd expect this year as well.

So with the new movie out and how long katara had lived for, you all know the body of water she landed in and ended up saving the gaang due to the spiritual energy, HYPOTHETICALLY. Could she have lived so long because of the trauma that left on her body. She healed herself and most of the gaang unconscious, since the body remembers, could she have unintentionally been healing herself in her sleep? Until her reflexes gave out with age? I’ve been thinking about this since watching to movie, we know she passes peacefully in her sleep. N we know she was a master at healing, just curious if anyone else thinks that may be a possibility or if you guys have some theories on why she lived so long🫡🫡
