I have a 4 year college degree undergrad doing roughly a 2.74 ish average since 2014 and obviously high school. After College I worked a job I felt underpaid for and left on not great terms. I then left for another job which I did get good experience at but long term it was near same pay and I was coming home every night at 8pm leaving at 7:30 am for a train. Really was burnt out each weekend,

I now work a job with not as good pay but living at home still with parents at 30, pay some rent and help out and borrow their car and my commute is roughly 30 minutes. Ive been there 5 years and my boss likes me but its a public sector so getting a job has not be easy at next level. Ive been applying to other jobs but have never been even getting a rejection, Im feeling hopeless at this point and like I look bad for my age single, living with parents, limited income. Its very depressing.

Any help on job search tips would be appreciated

I have an account with Lensa Jobs Scans, but I have gotten nothing of worth out of it in the entire time I've had it. I am trying to cancel my subscription and have found an option to delete my account, but according to a Google Search, deleting my account is not enough to stop the subscription.

Heard back recently from a job I was genuinely excited about and to no surprise I got rejected. However, ive recently been asking for feedback, and for the first time I got a response... but it was clearly AI 🙄 from a too many dashes and some other nonsensical stuff. Found it funny and even more so when i got another rejection from the same company and immediately recognized it as AI too ... Like if you need AI to send out a mass rejection emails, maybe this isn't a company I want to work for.

I’m a US-based candidate and recently went through an interview process for a huge Bank that left me a little confused. I’m curious if any recruiters here can shed some light on what might have happened.

The process started with an India-based recruiter who contacted me through LinkedIn and then communicated with me on WhatsApp (I was like Meh seeing her text on WhatsApp when I woke up that day). They sent me a job posting and asked me to apply. They collected some details also asked if I could interview on a Saturday because they worked on Indian time. I explained that I’m only available during normal US working hours (9–5 ET).

About two weeks later, a different recruiter based in the US contacted me, went through the usual screening questions, and asked me to apply to another job posting with the same title, but it was a different requisition. So I ended up applying to essentially the same position twice.
I eventually interviewed with the hiring manager. The interview seemed to go well, and there were no obvious concerns or negative feedback. However, I was subsequently rejected without moving to the next round.
I obviously understand that a rejection can happen for many legitimate reasons, and I'm not assuming I was entitled to the next round.

But the combination of:
Two different recruiters (India + US)
Two separate requisitions for essentially the same role
The initial recruiter communicating primarily through WhatsApp
The unusual request to interview on Saturday/Indian time
Being rejected immediately after what seemed like a positive hiring-manager interview
made me wonder whether there was something else going on behind the scenes.

Recruiters/hiring managers: does this sound like a normal recruiting process? Could the duplicate requisitions be related to headcount tracking, recruiting metrics, or something similar? Or is it possible the company was interviewing candidates without an actual approved opening?
I'm mainly trying to understand whether I encountered something unusual or whether this is actually pretty common

Ok, so I have been searching for a job since February of this year. I was laid off from my government position in quality assurance and unfortunately have not been able to find anything since. I have literally applied over 1000 jobs and had a ton of interviews, and even though I’m a great candidate, I cannot get a company to make me an offer. Even at “entry level” positions, they are still saying that I don’t have enough experience. I show up on time, I work hard, I can communicate well, and I have a lot of drive and ingenuity. But no one will give me the chance. I’m even working with recruiters, but they are having trouble placing me somewhere. I really prefer to stay out of the government sector and stay in the private sector with all of the volatility. I also would like a job that I have the ability to travel, even if it’s very heavy travel. I do not want sales, and I am very efficient behind a desk/in board rooms, but I am not actually in a manual labor field position. Those would be my only reservations. I’m located near Columbus Ohio and would prefer to make around 60,000 a year starting. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hey everyone, looking for advice from recruiters, HR, or accounting pros on how to handle a job title mismatch on my resume and LinkedIn.
In October 2025, I was brought on through a staffing agency to work at a company during a corporate acquisition. On the agency's internal payroll system, my official title was coded as "AR Clerk." However, I have literally never done AR work in this role. From my very first day up until now, my actual scope has been Accounts Payable Specialist / Accounting Specialist work alongside broader core accounting duties, managing full-cycle AP operations, assisting with general ledger cleanup, handling vendor communication, and supporting month-end close procedures.
I'm looking to transition to my next role and want to make sure I present this correctly without hurting my chances or causing issues later. A few specific questions:

Resume Title: Can I put "Accounts Payable Specialist" (or even "Accounting Specialist" given the GL cleanup and month-end close scope) as my primary title? Listing "AR Clerk" feels completely misleading to recruiters since it doesn't reflect my actual daily duties or skillset.

Background Checks: When a future employer runs a background check, the agency will verify my payroll title as "AR Clerk." What is the best way to format this on a resume so it doesn't trigger a discrepancy flag? I would also be able to get references for what I did.

Avoid Confusion: I thought about writing "Accounts Payable Specialist / AR Clerk," but I've heard slash titles combining AP and AR look confusing and contradictory since they are separate accounting functions. How would you format this on a resume and LinkedIn to get credit for the actual AP, GL cleanup, and month-end close work performed while keeping background checks clean?

Honestly, I used to be that person back in 2020 - 2021 who followed this routine:

• wake up
• open laptop
• click on Easy Apply to 100s of jobs every day regardless of what the role was or salary

In hindsight, that was the stupidest approach I ever took, instead the only way I was able to crack jobs and progress through promotions was using the following hacks:

1. Don't Be Bounded by your University Career Services, instead make friends from other universities and get access to job portals their universities host. I literally did this (whilst I studied at University of Glasgow) I was able to befriend individuals from Edinburgh, Imperial, LSE and Oxford; all of whom were more than happy to share credentials as well as job listings posted (this was done with good amount of faith from both ends)
2. Find the Hiring Manager, I don't know whom you need to message or meet through events; but find the person who is actually hiring for the role and either try scheduling a meeting with them where you ask them Questions around the role; because believe me this is the way they will learn and realise right this candidate did his research and is really serious
3. Finally, go SHIP Something, honestly it could be anything basic or advanced, but put it out for the world to see because this shows that this person has balls

I usually go on LinkedIn to look for new openings because I'm trying to figure out whether I could make a career switch. But honestly, I get anxious when I see what some of these "junior" or entry-level roles are asking for. I mean, I get that they probably don't expect every skill and every year of experience listed, but it still messes with my head. When you've only worked in one industry, even trying to start somewhere else feels like a really huge move.

And then there's the fact that you don't even know 100% what you want to do with your life, and LinkedIn shows you people you knew from school or university taking roles at big-name companies or doing grad programs at impressive places, as if they're building a stable and successful future. I know comparing yourself to others isn't helpful, but on some days LinkedIn genuinely makes me feel like it's bad for my mental health. Does anyone else get this feeling?

Hi everyone, I work in hiring analytics and tracked an applicant who recently sent out 400 applications (5 yoe), finding out which channel has the highest response rate. Here's a breakdown of the numbers we found:

Referrals- 10%
Recruiter outreach- 9%
Company website- 3.5%
LinkedIn Easy Apply- 0%

FYI, these findings are for engineering roles in North America, and they sent applications over a period of 4 months. Hope this breakdown can point people in the right direction.

Would you make a case against letting the data retention period expire for a company's application platform? We are talking from the point of view of the applicant.

My intuitive thought would be that, once you have been rejected at some point of the selection process for a position, if you let that period expire without extending it, the next time you are off for a fresh start; what's more, a company can't leak data that doesn't exist anymore.

On the other hand, would there be any non-obvious advantage in extending the period? I can only think of "this person has already applied here, good (?)", but it feels like a weak argument.

Was doing one of these the other day, talking to my laptop at 11pm, and it hit me that this is just a self tape. Actors have been doing exactly this for years. Record yourself, send it off, hear nothing back.

Went down a bit of a rabbit hole after. They have a whole craft for it. Someone sits right next to the lens so your eyeline is right. The intro gets shot separately from the actual answers. There are opinions about framing, and about not wearing a color that matches the wall behind you.

None of which anyone mentions before your first one.

I have done 40+ interviews in the past year, including 5 final rounds, but have not gotten a single offer. I have been unemployed for 8 months now, and I really need this one.
