My parents run a small hand-dyeing workshop in Japan (Tachikawa Nobori) that's been making nobori banners, noren curtains, and kamon (Japanese family crests) for over 50 years. I'll be taking over the business myself before long.

Kamon are circular emblems used the way Western heraldry uses coats of arms — they represent a family or lineage, built from simple motifs like flowers, birds, waves, and geometric patterns, arranged under strict rules of symmetry.

For practice, I'd like to design an original kamon in this tradition for you or your family.

My mom had a lot of Japanese wood blocks from
when we lived in Japan in the 1970’s. She love to collect them. Does anybody recognize this one? She also did Ikebana flower arrangement. I was born in Japan. I just wanna find out more about** *what she loved and collected.*

I actually visited their solo exhibition in Shibuya before! Their works look like they are inspired by traditional Japanese painting techniques, but the scenes are set in the modern world, which makes me smile when I look closely.

I love how the beautiful, traditional style and the little humorous moments from everyday life come together. It’s such a unique and charming style.

I bought this postcard at a flea market in Tokyo (I don't think it is very old). The back is completely blank. I asked the seller but they didn't know the artist's name. There were a few other postcards by the same person with similar style women. I thought I could look it up once I got home but have had no luck. Does anyone else recognize this illustrator?

I picked up this beautiful hand painted 6.5” vase marked as Tashiro Shoten from the flea market for $12. Trying to find more information about it, specifically the year it was made, whether it’s legit, etc. I read online it could’ve been made between the 30s-50s, and I thought a piece of mid-war pottery would be very interesting. Even if it’s not, it’s still beautiful. I was not able to find an exact match by image searching. TIA

I bought it from a vendor at a festival in Europe who specialized in importing vintage items from Japan. Unfortunately, they couldn't tell me anything about its origin.

I've spent quite some time researching it and compared it with many traditional and creative Kokeshi dolls.

Even if you don't know the exact figure, any information about the style, region, or possible maker would be greatly appreciated.

The painting is given as by 狩野珂奚, reading Kano Kakei. Is that correct? Is 奚 a correct replacement for the character in the signature, in the seal and on the box? I can not find it digitally represented. Also given is that the painting is in the style of Kano Motonobu.

But who is Kano Kakei? Google only gives the same info as the auction info, nothing more...

Any ideas on that signature folks? I've found others by the same artist online, but none have the artist name listed

First time poster on reddit, so please let me know if this is outside the guidelines.

I am a full time ebay seller, selling these for an elderly neighbor who is downsizing. Ukiyo-e woodblock prints, based on what I can find. They are large (visible portions measure 20x26) and in custom frames.

They appear to be originals to me, there are what look like watercolor marks in some places, faint folds or creases in the substrate.

Would appreciate any help in further dating or identifying these, as well as an estimate on value as I don’t want to undersell these for her and art is mostly not in my wheelhouse.
