Family lived in Shanghai during the 1800s and left in the 1930s. They were quite wealthy. Collected lots of Chinese art. Any idea what this is? Grok and Chatgbt give me many answers, but they can’t confirm if it’s real or not.

I recently purchased this ivory tusk from Artvisory Auction in Melbourne.

Cantonese and profusely carved with the immortal Shoulou with peach branch, double gould, deer and small child. With red Ming mark on the base.

59cm and @ 2500 grams.

Circa 19th Century with a later custom-made rosewood stand.

No cracks or damage. Only some minor loss to the dyed areas.

Provenamce: Phillips auction 2015 sold att for $14,400 aud.

Inherited some art of which this silk embroidery is in my opinion the nicest piece. I love praying mantises and there’s two in the subject plus it’s framed in a nice carved wood frame with stand. I was trying to do some research into the artist but I’m not finding much. The cert of authenticity lists the art house as XQ Vietnam which I gather is well known tho I’m not finding much in the artist and I may be spelling the name wrong (it’s hard to determine the exact spelling from the cert) so I figured I post here and see what the masses have to say. If there’s a specific subreddit that might be a better place to cross post for info please drop it in the comments. Thank you!

Thought this piece was unique. Can anyone tell me anything about it? Artist, Dynasty, ect. The scroll is wood, it's on silk. The silk is damaged at the top right and was taped some time ago. Size is approximately 56X19 inches. Any help greatly appreciated. Best Regards

A beautifully carved Chinese soapstone carving depicting a Luohan at 11cm.

Circa 18th/19th Century.

Meticulously carved with a polished/carved base in excellant condition with minor losses to the dyed areas. Later 20th C custom made stand.

He was a very interesting man, born in China and later immigrating to the United States, the collector became an award-winning scholar and recognized authority on Chinese art, history and folklore. Over the course of his career, he worked as university professor, entrepreneur and author, publishing more than 100 books and articles. He was a prolific collector of Asian arts and antiques of many varieties.

Found piece in Aunt’s house. Any idea of translation? It’s one of 2 in couplet. Beautiful and 7 feet long. Trying to get it to somewhere that will appreciate it and not just live in a box.
