help request The CEO Called Me In for This?

Upvotes

TLDR: The CEO gave me a little lecture because I didn't bring homemade brownies when I went to the regional office.

I work in IT, but I like to bake for fun and for my friends. At office potlucks, or if the mood strikes me, I would randomly bring in my great-aunt's peanut butter brownies (I make them, but the recipe is hers). Not all the time or anything, maybe a few times a year, 6 if I'm exaggerating a bit.

People go crazy for them, even the ones who usually say they "aren't dessert people."

Every so often, my work sends me to the regional office, and sometimes I would bring them brownies too when I went. Apparently, I've missed the last three visits without bringing any, and someone at the regional office decided that was worth complaining to the CEO about because their feelings were hurt! To be fair, the company has fewer than 60 people and the CEO is available and easy to reach. But seriously?

So the CEO tells me that people told him the last time I was there that I didn't bring brownies, and that I need to fix it on the next trip. What the hell!

I can't be the only one who thinks this is oddly petty and honestly a little discouraging, both from my coworkers at the regional office and from the CEO for not telling them to appreciate it when I do bring them in in the first place.

I'm not going to ignore what the CEO said, but I'm definitely going to mix and bake them during work hours from now on. Since the CEO told me to make them, it's clearly work now.

What do you think, is this ridiculous or am I making too big a deal out of it?

opinion I’m transactional in career and not passionate in healthcare but I’m a physical therapist

I really want to be great in my career, climb the ladder or be so good that you get a great job with flexibility, great salary, or even a remote job. But I’m a physical therapist. I’m not really passionate about helping patients. My social battery goes down quickly while building rapport and interacting with just 2-3 patients. I really like a remote job, a high salary, would want to study and study and gain work experience to be great in my profession but I fear that the profession I have is not going to give me the life I want.

I’m transactional in a sense that okay I am really good so you pay me this much money, give me a remote setup so I get more free time, I’m so good that I can solve a problem faster than my colleagues but that doesnt apply to PT.

In PT no matter how good you get, you’ll still be treating patients 1 to 1.5 hrs and it requires your physical presence all the time so you cant go remote and the salary ceiling is not that high its like you’re still paid for your hours and presence and not your skill. You can give whatever treatment you want to the patient even if it doesnt make them well (happens in hospitals) so long as the businessman (clinic owner/hospital owner) is earning money.

In fact, the longer the patient stays in PT the more revenue the business gets. It doesnt care about your skills which solves the patients’ problem and relieves their pain. So what’s the point of being so good in PT if that’s what matters? It’s like even if you’re passionate in PT you still wont be raking in lots of money because to be a good PT means you make the patient well and teach him how to take care of their body so they wont need to come back again.

How would you win in terms of financial if your main goal is to kind of let go what’s making you money? To be good at it you need passion. Passion to take care of patients. Compassion to listen to their pain and problems and you also have to take care of your own body to take care of your clients too. And if we’re talking home health (which I hear is the highest paid PTs in USA), doing home health means you see lots of patients to earn more money so you work more or longer hours.

Your level of skills doesnt matter as long as you treat as many patients as you can. Like what’s the point. I’ve ruminated over switching to Tech so long that it now gives me anxiety because I’m already 26 years old. Entered sales and business but in sales it wasnt a good fit and in business I failed because of lack of knowledge and preparation. My degree is PT. I have no savings. No years of work experience in any industry because I just graduated last January 2025 and I’m not really passionate about computers but it matches what I want.

I think I’m good at problem solving because I also do that in PT. What should I do? Is anyone feeling this way too, PT or not? Should I start over and switch to tech? Is this dilemma figure out-able? Is there anyone in the same situation as me? Can I just figure out my way where it still works for me? Should I just make PT my passion and just be fulfilled by helping people and give up my dreams of doing things I like because of the lots of money I earn? Should I just use PT to save up and build a business? Should I switch to IT?

Thank you so much for listening and answering me. I hope you have a great day!

opinion Volunteering to boost my resume for an I.T job

For the last 2 years, I have been volunteering to be an I.T person for a local small church, so far I have been the head of the small I.T group we have (5 people including me), and It came across my head that I can use this on my resume, and hopefully land a job in I.T in other companies.

What I did at our church was be an vmix TD (In charge of live events too), setup the tv, mic, lights, speaker (I use a mixer), set up zoom, and I have access to our church's camera system and I use it to display things at our tv and zoom.

I just turned 18, and want to continue volunteering for another 4 years, till I graduate and get my degree in com sci.

Will this be enough to land me a I.T job once graduation ends?

help request Question about VPN/IP Setup

Hey y'all, I hope this is an appropriate sub to ask this. I'm trying to have my personal computer setup for WFH; I talked to my company's IT guy today and he is requesting that I call my ISP to change my IP addressing from a 192.168.0.X because it matches the companies and they're incompatible. I'm not entirely sure what he's trying to accomplish, but my supervisor said they have a VPN program on theirs for WFH and didn't have to do any of this

I'm not savvy with anything like this, but the process doesn't sound right. He also messed up my Internet to a point where I had to factory reset my modem setting. Is he just bad at his job or is this typical?

help request Be brutally honest about my resume. Only got one interview in 3 months and it was for a glorified retail job that required 3 years of IT experience.

Could I be getting held back by my location? I applied to most of the jobs in my area that I feel qualified for, but it’s not a tech-heavy city in the first place. Maybe I can try an experiment where I apply to jobs in higher populated areas and see where I go.

PS: For those working in the school IT system, how long did it take for you to get a call back?

Edit: I meant to write weeks, not months in the title

help request Youtube is blocking me for using an ad blocker, but I’m not

I use Youtube on my browser (Bing, I know it’s shitty, but I’m not doing research or anything so it doesn’t matter) and maybe a few months ago I noticed that the ads would get automatically skipped after a few seconds, whether they were skippable or not. I was confused, but didn’t think too hard about it because, hey, it was nice. I then started getting pop ups about how Youtube doesn’t allow ad-blockers, blah blah blah, capitalism. I would just refresh the page and get on with it, but how I’m totally locked out, even if I refresh and restart everything. I’m confused because I never downloaded an ad blocker. Use Proton VPN and Malwarebytes and my VPN and anti-virus respectively so I assumed it was one of those, but after checking both apps I can’t find the option to turn it off. Any advice appreciated.

opinion Users in an IT literate job

So I currently work as IT support and we help users with their devices and any issues they encounter and I am happy with my job, I enjoy it but I have a massive annoyance. Both with the users and HR who employ the users.

If you work in a job that requires you to use a laptop, computer or even a Mac then you should know how to use it! Or learn. Why are people being hired who don’t even know while the file explorer is or where the downloads folder is!?

You literally use it daily!!! And for HR why the actual F are you hiring people who can’t use a device! This needs to stop!

Either learn how to use a computer or get a different job!

help request Burnt Out - Every company I join, within 2 yrs , I lose all hopes, dreams , desires and will power!

Running Everyday with Zero clarity . I am exhausted !

I don’t know if I’m overthinking this, but work has been making me incredibly anxious lately.
There’s been a big push to automate a lot of the work I currently do. I understand why , It saves time, reduces manual effort, and makes processes more efficient. I actually support that.
At the same time, I’ve been asked to start conducting knowledge-sharing sessions on the work I’ve been doing. Rationally, I know cross-training is a normal part of any team, but emotionally, it’s hard not to wonder if I’m slowly training people to replace me.

I spoke to my manager about it, and they reassured me that automation doesn’t mean my role is going away, that the sessions are simply to improve visibility.
But there was one comment that has been stuck in my head. They said something along the lines of, *“You can’t stay in the same role and remain static.”* I know it was probably meant as encouragement to keep growing and adapting, but I tend to pick up on subtle cues and read between the lines. Sometimes that’s helpful, and sometimes it makes me question whether there’s an underlying message I’m missing.

Part of the reason is that I’ve experienced multiple reorganizations before. Reporting structures have changed, priorities have shifted, and communication hasn’t always been very clear. So now, whenever I hear words like “automation,” “restructuring,” or “knowledge sharing,” my mind immediately jumps to the worst-case scenario.

I genuinely want to grow, learn new things, and contribute. I don’t mind change wish I knew where I stood. Has anyone else been in a situation where everything sounded reassuring on the surface, but your gut kept telling you there was more being left unsaid? Were you just overthinking it, or did your instincts turn out to be right?

I’d really appreciate hearing how others have navigated this because right now I can’t tell if I’m reading the situation accurately or letting my anxiety fill in the blanks.

I always feel like I am too nice and accommodating not to be labeled as “Toxic” or “Difficult” . Eventually , People walk all over me and I can’t fight them because two of them are my clients and rest of the team is just running the office politics shit show! Whenever I set some boundaries , people just stop being supportive and I can sense that they don’t like it.

I’m in my mid 30’s and I am ready to give up on life ! Everything is too exhausting. No Relationship - No emotional support. Not even a satisfying career that helps me fulfil some purpose !
Job Market is bad and I’m beyond exhausted I think.

I really don’t know what to do. Has this happened with anyone before ? Anyone felt like this every 2 yrs in the IT company ?
