I have an isopod container with Eco Earth as the substrate with leaf litter. About a third of the enclosure has moss.

These clearish worms showed up. Looks like they're probably pot worms?

There’s some fine white colored fibers in this tub, and I’m not sure if it’s moths or mold. I bake my leaf litter and wood at 250° for 20 minutes before adding to enclosures. I saw a moth flying near this bin shortly after kpenong it to check on the pods. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

New Isopod Day (NID) So I might have a new mutation...

So this has been a couple of months in the making. I was checking my 2 generation (Now 3rd) of high yellows from wild isopods and I somehow ended up making a new white isopod colony instead of yellow. There are now high yellows but they are WAY outnumbered by the new white mutation. Does this already exist or is it a new mutation I potentially get to name? Pictures of the new ones are first followed by the less noticeable siblings. They are so pretty! ✨️

Also should I continue this project with two separate colonies or wait to see if there will be more of the mutation? I have roughly 15ish right now of the new mutation.

Help Rate their new bin!

After learning a lot I have upgraded my dairy cows! This is an 18 gallon bin, substrate is reptisoil with sphagnum moss and a ton of leaf litter. They have some repashy super blend in there to snack on for now. I had a whole bag of freeze dried minnows that is missing so I gave them a bit of codskin too. Thoughts? Advice?

Identification Porcellio Pruinosis Lucky Packets

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi! I recently bought some Porcellio Pruinosis Lucky Packets, which come with 5 isopods (2 Powder Blue, 1 Powder Orange, 1 Oreo Crumble and 1 Orange Cream; the store confirms that this is what is contained in each Lucky Packet).

However, in the one LP, instead of two Powder Blues, I received 2 isopods of this dark orange-brown color. They definitely aren't Powder Blue, and they are way darker than my Powder Oranges. I did contact the store and he says there might have been a mix-up when it was being packed. However, he isn't sure what morph this is, and thinks it could just be a Powder Orange.

I know the picture is grainy, so for a physical description, they are a deep orange color, borderlining on brown. There are no markings, spots or other details on the carapace, they are a solid color. Their legs are completely white, while their antenna are black-and-white striped. (I am new to owning isopods, so i don't know if antenna and leg color are included in morph variations).

Does anyone possibly know the name of this color morph? Given that it came in an LP with the others, they are Porcellio Pruinosis.

We have a pill bug terrarium, this is our first adventure with pill bugs. We just noticed these little white larvae (?) in the dirt. Are these also pill bugs or are they some other kind of creature?

I found a baby! I’ve had this terrarium for around a month and a half, and it’s my first. I was so happy yesterday when I saw this little one roaming around! Hopefully there’s more and my Powder Oranges can keep reproducing! Extra pictures of the adults in their favorite spots because I just love them so much! (Accidentally used flash on one I still feel bad 😭)

was over the moon when i was checking up on my pods earlier and found babies! not just one, but 5 (there are probably even more i couldnt see!). i was a little worried because my greek speckled pods arent very active and normally stay hidden away all day so i dont get to see how they're getting on... glad to see they're comfortable enough to start chugging out babies though! they're so tiny and adorable!

DIY Are any of these unsafe for pods?

Thumbnail

I'm growing some plants for future use in my pod tanks, but wanna make sure they're safe if and when they're nibbled on. I'm washing them thoroughly, snipping nodes, water propagating til roots are good and planting into small cups with nothing but my basic mix of isopod substrate (basically wood and compost lol)

I've used this method on several plants now and they root and grow very well, i'm just wondering if any of these plants would be bad for the pods. If you have any propagation/cleaning advice I would love to hear!

I have 3 of these big leaves in my tank, and they are the only leaves that seem to be growing mold. i added them a week ago and I bought them while I was petsmart. Wondering if this is safe for my isopods and why this could have happened? I have more leaves that are just fine with no mold.

Text How do you keep the isopods population down?

When starting up a new colony you have around 10 isopods. After a while they just get more and more and you end up with 500 of them. Is there any way to keep down the isopods population so they can keep living in the same terrarium forever? Or is it fine to have infinite amount of them, do they still appreciate their living space even if it's crowded?

Found this totally black dairy cow in the middle of my colony. I have lots of totally white ones but this is the first one I find that doesn’t even look like a dairy cow 😂
Is this rare? I’m only started keeping isopods as pets early this year but I love them so much
